I've inherited a similar saw without a bar. I've just been scratching my head trying to work out how to fit my new bar. Looks like I'm missing that big gear thing. Thanks for the heads up.
another good video, Don. I have been heating with wood since 1979, cutting it all myself, most recently with a chain saw just like you are using. a long time ago someone gave me two tips, which I have followed ever since. 1) watch the size of chips being thrown by the chain, and when they begin to look like saw dust (small chip particles, or cutting gets slow), change to a new chain, 2) flip the bar every time the chain is changed. thanks for all the small engine videos. I have got many good ideas from them.
"watch the size of chips being thrown by the chain, and when they begin to look like saw dust (small chip particles, or cutting gets slow), change to a new chain," What? Full retard advice. Why would you replace a perfectly good chain? How about simply sharpening it?
Thank you, I was cleaning my uncles and I thought he must have lost the bar plate that goes against the case and oiler area, only saw I've seen without on so far.
Thank you very much for this. You should re-write the Stihl manuals. You're much clearer. My MS231 came without the little screw holding the tensioning wheel being tight. Appreciate the tips you pass on. Love my Stihl MS231
Great tip on flipping the bar over. I see saw and think that it was done by mistake upside down.what is your like on chain sharpener I see a lot of dremel tool deals?
I have a Stihl MS 250C, Obviously from your video the bar should just come off. Mine will not come off the stud, I tap on it with a hammer, lightly pry with a screwdriver, roll the bar back and forth and it will not move off of the stud.
When you took off and put on the screws with your gloves it reminded me of the old Playtex glove ads from years gone, by, so flexible you can pick up a dime :-)
the locking bolt and the center bearing (the 2 silverish pieces in the tensioner assembly), are they typically available for purchase without buying the entire assembly? they're both missing on a chainsaw (Stihl MS211) i'm trying to get operational again
That is nice to know, but the way my saw have worked for me it won't ever have to have the bar and chain replaced. I have the MS250 saw and it is hard to crank and after being in the shop for 6 times I have reached my end with it. Cranking it is the most difficult thing to do right now and I am having the same problem with my old Poulan saw as well. The Poulan saw did give me great service for a long time. The only saw which works perfectly for me is the Poulan Pro battery saw which seem to be great.
Hello, nice video... Have just one question about adjusting a bar on the screws.. Do you put/slide bar all the way left to the sprocket or do you leave it somewhere in the middle... I just started to work with chainsaw and trying to learn and do it myself as much as possible.. Thank you 😉
I bought the New Stihl M5 251C and i cant tightend the chain. Because that White plastic screw Isä stock and so is the Black screw with +plus symbol. I mean its so thight i am afraid its gonna brake if i push More power on it. Can you Tell me what To do?
That main level thing for me is stuck since forever. Any idea how to get it to turn? I’ve used both hands still nothing. Talking about the lever you turn at 0:45
My Stihl weed-whacker has a few problems with it. It does run, but it's bogging right after cold startup, however after revving it up slowly, it starts to run completely fine. But then when it's hot, I just cannot get it to start up. Choke does nothing, throttle does nothing, the only way to start it up again is to leave it to cool down for about an hour. Does anyone have a theory on why this might be happening?
Suzy Q did you ever get an answer to this? Were you able to solve this problem? You are the second person I have come across with this problem but no one ever provides a solution.
@@carolrosenberg9769 If the chain tensioner cannot move you need to losen the saw cover first bring the chain to the tightness you need and then tighten the cover completely.
I get to the part where the bar and adjuster are removed,………..and mine will not come off! The adjuster works as it should, but it and the bar will not detach. Yours just lifted off……mine will not. I even tried prying on it without any luck I have the cover off. I have the chain off. But, nope, the bar wiggles, but will not come off. ??????
have any luck? I'm having the same issue now. I wondered if it had been over tightened by a previous user and maybe that jammed it somehow. Even if that is it, I'm not sure how to resolve the situation. I'd love any tips.
@@kellybutton3124 hello Kelly. Yes, i took it to my trusted Stihl dealer. He pried it off. Apparently it was just stuck. He replaced the bar and it slipped back into place, no problem. So….. i guess it just gets stuck. I thought it must have a fastener of some kind,…but NO. Just stuck. Hope this helps.
Donnie this was a little misleading I thought it was putting a bigger bar on a ms180 so I watched it because I have this one. It struck me as odd when you put it on and didn't have a bigger chain. But you weren't putting on a bigger bar. Do you have to get a longer chain when putting a bigger bar on and how far can you go?
Is it easy to delete it? I have 2 little saws that have them and as convenient as they are I hate them. Especially considering the adjuster doesn't fit off brand bars. Actually currently lookin for a video on it to see what I'll need
very helpful video good info
What i was searching for. Clear explanation, excellent camera work. To the point. No "small talk" nonsense or irritating music. Excellent!

Thank you once again, Dony…. I’ve only just done this for the first time today on my MS 251C.
Cheers 🍻 from Down Under…
Glad I Found Your Channel, Cause My Ms180 Gave Me Fits Trying 2 Put The Chain On Saturday, But Thanks 2 You I Have It Now!!!!
Great job on the how-to. Thanks for sharing, Dony.

You do sharpen your chain right?

Brilliant tutorial. Thank you so much. Is it exactly the same for an MS261?
Well I will make my chains a little tighter from now on. I usually leave them a little looser than that. Thanks!!
Thank you. Clean, clear and to the point

Just got a new 291 C-BE that had this features and haven't even used it yet. Very difficult to find a decent video that explains this.

I ended up getting a puller and using it to get the bar off, It had burrs that were catching and not letting it slip off.
Thanks for this. Same saw. I cleaned the burrs on mine by clamping the gear to a woodblock and running a 5/16 drill bit through it a few times.
Thnx so much - you did a marvelous job - very clear and precise....Just what we need when we're in doubt. Cheers!. Brian.

I have a 180BE easy start it has a 43 bar and chain on it can I get a 50 with a 16in bar and to fit
Thank you sir.
Are you sure it is ok to flip the bar? There is a small hole on the top (before) flipped that seems to line up with the bar oil dispenser.
Great video, thanks!
Flip the bar!!! Thanks!!
Great as usual Don!
Thanks for the video.
good tips. thanks
Thanks for the great video 👏👍
My little black wheel is not working? I can't tighten it on my 180
Is it normal for the bar to move a bit on these
I like this video because it was easy to follow and understand.
Good Job!
nice another chainsaw video thanks don
What is that Granberg box on table? Some tool ?
it's a Granberg ALASKAN CHAINSAW MILL, I sell them from my shop
good to know thx

Check spark arrestor and also remove exhaust to see if its carbon build-up
The latch on chain tensioner will not turn and as it is made of plastic I don't want to force it. HELP

Be careful
I hate the tool less adjuster
Good video, but isn't this pretty much common sense?
