"Its wasnt a genocide until you involved our tapas guy" is so fucking in-character for washington politicians, its like they're doing meta commentary on themselves.
We love our amber don’t we folks? She’s back folks and she’s bringing the vibes. Many people were saying she was done! Washed! Remember folks! THEIR VERY NASTY, VERY UNFAIR!!
The idea of genius is stupid, but when people call Ye a genius they specifically mean musical genius. I've never encountered anyone who is under the impression that he's a genius 'thinker' in some respect. This goes for calling artists 'genius' in general.
They dismissed two Reserve officers for the killing of the WCK workers. Seems like a reward, not a punishment. "Hey, you. Go back home to your families and your normal lives. Good work- no, I mean, very bad. We are very disappointed... in the media backlash. But good job scaring the aid workers out of Gaza."
we need more shows like Reacher where the character is perfect and never does anything dumb. The flawed "realistic" character thing is overplayed, but its just easier for non genius writers to write non genius characters.
I was very blessed to visit Japan in Middle school on an exchange program in Middle school. While we were there, a veterinarian killed himself because he'd misdiagnosed a cow.
All I know is a man has to keep his promises, even if his promise is to commit Seppuku over the mispouring of tea in the presence of a woman of lower social rank.
yea, the big problem with dementia patients is that they keep forgetting they have dementia! If they could just remember that, and remember that everyone knows they have dementia, that would make it soooo much easier
spearfishing works on politicians just because it's attention directed specifically at them. Almost any other person would think "why would someone I don't know flirt with me on a secure messaging app?". A politician thinks "Another adoring fan! This person must really be into me. Probably they'll have sex with me too, because they know how awesome I am when they see me on TV!"
At 31:00, a fun fact related to this discussion: the most thoroughly British of British novelists from the last 40 years is Kazuo Ishiguro, who was born in Japan. The Remains of the Day is one of the most 'British' stories ever written.
They are a huge bastion of German philosophy and literature as well. Tons of upper class Japanese people get degrees in foreign philosophy/literature. German and English are both seen as being very cosmopolitan.
Confabulation is super common. I had a patient once that had pretty advanced memory loss that lived in a mental health residence. He would either give throwaway answers to everything or get angry and start cussing if you asked him anything. He went at least a decade or two without anyone noticing.
Shogun is great for the same reasons the Northman was great: it shows a culture (more specifically a lifestyle/class in that culture) authentically and unmoored from modern awareness/convention or judgement, so you have these incredibly human, complex characters that are at once relatable while being completely alien to us.
Almost like the fantastic anime _The Apothecary Diaries._ That is a period mystery procedural set in feudal China, and you get to see how society works with an Emperor, Eunuchs and Courtesans. It's a society where beautiful women work at a brothel, but it's not really just prostitution. The most popular women are celebrities, often hired also as company... think geisha. The brothel is paid to have the women play music and dance, play shogi or go, and sometimes just to chat. Itxs like paid dating and entertainment. And if a woman fancies you (and you can pay her fee), you can buy her out. If she doesn't like you, you can only buy her at a price she sets. And the dangers involved in the job of course comes from guys who can pay and act normal, but actually have STDs or are violent. And that's just one aspect... It's super interesting.
Northman shows a culture "authentically" as much as Star Wars shows space authentically. The amount of errors, right down to the premise, is mired in misconceptions or exaggerations that come from a *current day* *popular* perception of the culture.
LMAO 50 cent made a whole ass cartoon series about Rick Ross called Officer Ricky. Can't wait for his Diddy documentary. "He's calling it Diddy Do It?"
Felix's assessment of Shogun's dialogue is so accurate. They wanted william adams to be a foul mouthed sailor and instead they just made him into a redditor.
I understand mocking Dennis Miller for constantly making obscure references from 50-60 years ago, but Chapo makes a lot of obscure references from the past twenty years. They've referenced Bowfinger a lot and that movie famously bombed, which meant that very few people saw it.
it is already super subjective lol. Truth is determined by the mob on twitter, and community notes are just to reinforce that consensus. they dont need to fundamentally change anything to make it malicious.
Accidental friendly fire happens. It’s not weird. It’s bad. It’s to be avoided but war happens real real fast I. A scary place where everyone’s trying to kill eachother. I’m not even that mad if someone had bad intel and possibly caused friendly fire incident. But I’m furious if you covered it up and lied so anpossible information or command issue isn’t addressed and may repeat. Bravery isn’t just shooting the gun bang sticks. Cowardice to own up to an error kills more allies than any bullet.
I always know I’m talking to a great dumb guy when he as a bushido tattoo. The bushido code! That thing that wasn’t written down until the 1890s and no samurai followed cuz they were just armed thugs
I'm sure there were straightlaced ones. They were just soldiers, same as anywhere else. Not conscripts, not mercs... but like any other soldiers especially of the time, during times of peace, yeah, some are gonna turn into those asshole cops with punisher tats. But most spent time being cops, so yeah... guess you're right
Man, my heart just sank hearing how tapas weighed more heavily on their minds than a mountain of skulls
Only called it a genocide when their treat maker was affected. That is so aristocracy coded it hurts.
