  • In this video, we compare the performance of the all-new Apple MacBook Pro M3 Max, MacBook Pro M1 Max, and Mac Studio M2 Max using DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro. We will be testing a variety of tasks, including importing footage, rendering, and exporting.
    Here are some of the key specifications of each machine:
    MacBook Pro M3 max:
    16-core CPU (12 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores)
    40-core GPU
    128GB of unified memory
    8TB SSD
    MacBook Pro M1 max:
    10-core CPU (8 performance cores and 2 efficiency cores)
    32-core GPU
    64GB of unified memory
    2TB SSD
    Mac Studio M2 Max:
    32-core CPU (24 performance cores and 8 efficiency cores)
    64-core GPU
    64GB of unified memory
    2TB SSD
    Is the MacBook Pro M3 the fastest machine for rendering and exporting 4K and 8K footage? Check out the video to find out.

    Would be more useful to know how actually working in a timeline in davinci resolve performs compared to M1 Max, as exports are not where we spend 99% of our time...

    • @btonelli
      @btonelli  6 месяцев назад +6

      Timeline is smooth. No real difference scrubbing and editing etc. you don’t need to edit in proxy for the most part

      How is the M1 Max in timeline? I have no money for m3

    • @jppj4067
      @jppj4067 6 месяцев назад +3

      @@MarineSwanreally smooth usually. But it all depends what camera codec you’re using. For exemple I mostly edit 8k raw 50p coming from a Nikon Z9.
      For editing, no problem it’s smooth. But once you start adding noise reduction or AI superscale or retime with optical flow and speed warp, you’re done, it’s unplayable without cache/node render. Same goes for sony a7s III 4k50p footage but you can go further and still have realtime playback. Other than the previous effect I spoke about you can add a lot of effect/correction without worrying.
      In the end you can do almost anything but there is always some realtime limitation at some point. Anyway, I almost never edit proxy, except if I have an external editor via cloud.

      @@jppj4067 well let’s say not bad, I don’t know how Nikon files are, but let’s say about bmk 6k or sometime Komodo that is also 6k have you ever tried? And also about color correction for sure not heavy at this point how it’s been? Thank you so much for the help anyway

      @@MarineSwan BRAW and Red files can be a bit taxing if you start really adding things to them. For this test I added the facial beauty stuff, color graded the BRAW footage and had 8k B roll. On the M3 Max it’s fine, M2 Max it’s ok but easier to edit in proxy and the M1 is similar. I’ll be pushing these in subsequent videos so you will get to see how it performs soon

    @LongEarthTradingCompany 6 месяцев назад +1

    Yeah, so of course the new one is faster, but for me one of the biggest reasons for buying Macs in the first place is the fact that they last really long. I have the M1 Pro MacBook Pro 14" from 2021, and it's still very much a great workhorse and does everything I need in the Adobe suite at a very reasonable speed. That being said, of course I'd still love to have the M3, especially because of the color :)

    • @btonelli
      @btonelli  6 месяцев назад

      Yes they have a longer shelf like than a comparable PC. This is also one of the key benefits. The M3 Max in most of my tests is 3x faster than the M1 but not by a huge margin. Reality is Apple has made such a great chipset with the M1 etc for some the reason to upgrade will either be for more monitor support, faster rendering for 3D animations etc and or larger projects. For the average user the M1 and M2 are more than adequate. That being said the M3 in Space Black is stunning :)

    Real issues with Macbooks come when you want to edit a big project; example I've been editing two seasons a TV series for a couple of years now the media take close to 100TB of storage space so it lives in a server. The Macbook just can't keep a reliable connection to the server, dongles failed I've tried all of them 10GbE and 1GbE connection breaks up ramdomly making it unbearable. So my $3K editing laptop (a bit more if you add up the expensive useless dongles) works for watching youtube and browse the internet while I edit on a desktop PC with a dedicated 10gbe card.
    The only solution apple has given me in two years is to replace my $20k server or go sit right next to the spinning drives through a 1m Thunderbolt cable.
