  • There was Fungus in this Leica Elmarit R 28mm 1:2.8, in the most inner lens in the 2 lens assembly but it was "easy" to take away with lighter fluid, and turn out to be very good.
It's not that difficult to get in to, just be aware of the little steele ball for the aperture and the very little spring.
Also make some small marks before disassemble the lens assembly, so the aperture is set to the right position.
In this film I begin with a 2mm flathead screwdriver, then at around 2:30 I use a JIS 00 (modified PH00, file the sharp tip off a little).
When taken off the bajonet, take care of the little steele ball and spring, shown at 3:06- 3:16, that are part of the aperture ring click...!

I have the newer version of the 28mm 2.8 and cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it to focus right when I am assembling back together. I would gladly pay for a zoom call with your for some instructions !

Hello There, this is a great video, Do you know if the rear glass elements the ones facing the sensor can be clean? I think is where I have fungus in between those glass elements. Thank you.

Thank you very much for this precision, in fact my lens is a 35mm f2.8, I suppose that it is the same principle? On the other hand what he frightens me, it is the alignment for the ring of focust, in 3min34 ... and in 2min16 for the diaphragm! If I miss it it's possible to find the good initial values? Finally, like that is going to be my first dismantling, you have this normal speed video ...
Thank you for having shared your invaluable expèrience.

I'm about to tackle my 35mm summicron R 324xxxx and your video is a wonderful head start for preparation. Acquiring the tools is no problem, however the dust management is what worries me. My 35mm is perfect except for dust and fear of doing all that work to still have dust show up upon assembly. Do you throw away your lens cloths away after using them? Or use a lint roller between? If I have to buy 20 sheets of lens cloths I'll do it haha.
Many thanks I've saved this particular video to my computer.

    Mike, hi!
Great videos, BTW - I have learned a lot from them! Thank you!!
Have a question for you - that rubber tool you use to remove the ID ring - is that a 55mm size for this lens? And you got it off eBay, correct? Thanks!

Thank's, it's the 55mm I use and it's 47mm in the other end. You can get them here on ebay.

      Thanks Mike!
I have another question for you.
Could you give advice, or maybe even do a video, on how to address a dropped lens that now has focusing and aperture ring stiffness problems?
Would you use a filter wrench (the kind that addresses the same issue if a dropped lens lands on its front ring or a filter ring, and pushes the dented-in part of the ring back out to round) or another method?
I know it wouldn't cure the matter as well as a parts replacement, but it would sure be cheaper than that, and also it would get the lens back in okay working condition right now, instead of having to wait weeks or more to locate the proper (and expensive when talking Leica) spare parts?
      Thanks again!

I had a quick question about R lenses in general. When you focus, does it focus internally, front focus, or rear focus? i.e which part of the lens moves when you focus?

Hello, I have just bought the same objective, with exactly the same problem, then thank you for this video! Just a question, at the level of the equipment what are the numbers of screwdrivers, and whereto find the kind of compass which serves to take out 2 rings?
I also have the 135mm 2.8..., you go to make another video...?

    Hey,
Is declicking made on this model just by removing the apertures steel ball and spring or is there additional operation needed?
Like in your other videos for other old Leica lenses you remove that steel ball and spring plus then you cut away some wire and then you place there an little hand made steel part to keep aperture following the rings movement. Is that also needed to be done with this lense? Do you have a video that could be used as a guide for declicking this Elmarit-R 28mm 2.8?
    Thank you.

The last questions, the marks which you engrave at 3,30 it is ring of focus in the infinity? During the reassembly the alignment is difficult to see, it is towards 9,42? Finally, the liquid of cleaning against mushrooms, it is what as product?
    Thank you very much.

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  9 лет назад

+Tofolo 33 The marks I engrave at 3,30 is actually to be sure, that the aperture is in correct position before disassemble the front part, with the brass retaining ring at 5:10 - 5:21.
I use Lighter Fluid to take away mushrooms / fungus, but do it gently..
      Cheers from

Thanks a lot for your very good video! I bought the same Elmarit R 2.8 28mm, but with one problem a stiff focus ring. I looked at your video and decided to do it myself.
I dissambled the bayonet, the 3 cams and took off the diaphragm ring. Than I took off the ring with the cams. After dissambling the ring with the four screws and the two vertical ends, I could turn the front part of the lens from the focus and diaphragm part. I cleaned both threads and provided a little new grease on both ends. It is working smoothly now.
I have only one problem with assembling the ring with the four screws and the two vertical ends. I forgot to put marks. Can you help me out?
      Thanks a lot in advance,
      Bert, from the Netherlands

Cant understand why is it necessary to take out the mount part in order to get the lens out 🤔 i have a summicron-r 50/2 that appears to be the identical concept and i need to clean fungus but worried to open it because of the risk that ill never put it back together how it was :/

I need your help I think- I just bought a Leica R 28mm elmarit off a guy. Worked fine for 5 mins then focus ring became completely detached from inner mechanism. Does that sound like an easy fix or do I need to fight for a refund :(

    • @mikeno62
      @mikeno62  8 лет назад

Well, you have to unscrew the name plate so you can come in to the retaining ring that hold's the focus ring together to the focus system.
      Cheers

Very kind of you to reply - would I need the compass tool or equivalent to fix the issue? It sounds reall straight forward:) it also has a tiny bit of sticky aperture between f2 to f4 if you change quickly it doesn't quite keep up and lurches to f4 suddenly
