    • @KatieoftheHouse
      @KatieoftheHouse  2 месяца назад +1

      Oh thank you!
      Well, make sure you crunch all of your numbers and see if it’s worth it. I don’t want you to pay anymore than you have to. The 20 year plan just wasn’t a good option for us because Marc’s income increased over the last two years and his minimum payment on the income driven plan was basically the same as his standard payment, so he would have it paid off at that point anyway. So I figured, it didn’t make sense to do that because we’d pay less overall by knocking it out now. That may not be the case for you though, so I don’t want you to regret anything because of me 😕
      I wish Marc had started working at his current employer right out of school. He’d be eligible for the public student loan forgiveness by now if he had 😫

    • @turtlescanfly7
      @turtlescanfly7 2 месяца назад

      @@KatieoftheHouse it definitely doesn’t make sense for us to pay it all off faster. We’re too far behind in retirement since we started our careers at 29 and 31, so it would be better for us to invest our extra & utilize the 20 year plan. But it might be worth it to pay off my husbands undergrad loans early. The grad school loans are a whole mortgage though (350k between us both) so we’d have to sacrifice retirement savings and our employers don’t offer 401ks so no way to contribute to that to lower our AGI

    In the next couple of months, start exploring energy savings measures and possibilities. Pay special attention to information from the late 1970's and early 1980's because the "oil crisis" of the late 1970's sent energy costs soring, inflation noticeable, and more. Household energy costs are likely to become a real issue within 10 years and many of the remedies require behavioral and aesthetic changes. The better/ more effective/ less hacked changes require at least some "investment purchase" money beyond a tube of caution and a caulk gun; the price of caulk has gone up significantly since the summer of '19 and then again since the summer of '20 however. BTW - Those wood shutters from the 1960' and 1970's were popular for thier energy savings as much if not more so aesthetics. A tree that shades 50% of the ground beyond its trunk keeps 50% of the sun's heat from heating up the soil around it. The list goes on.

    Back in the day there were something like 4 levels and types of Costco membership and the price you paid depended upon your membership. There was always a base price but you got x% off depending upon the membership type. I'm sure it was an administrative mess as they went back and forth on how to sign things but I can assure you it was a PIA as a shopper. It sounds like they are using rewards scheme for some of that savings.
