Beinn Chabhair: My First Munro Alone and Beating Reluctance ⛰

- Despite recurring reluctance, I’ve bagged my first munro, solo!⛰
There’s a lot of empathy I feel for my clients when hardship (such as breakup/divorce) brings them feelings of inability, reluctance, or uneasiness about being alone and doing things solo.
These feelings can sprout when new norms post-separation are novel and perhaps have never really been unearthed. 🤔
Despite all odds, clients go above and beyond in their personal development…
The admiration I have for my clients when they start to champion doing things solo rockets because they still push themselves forward to accomplish small-wins, big-wins, and all wins in between. 🏆
In doing so, they blossom! 🌸

What you said about when you don't want to do something then that's the time to do it (you put it better!) is spot on. The reward of a spectacular view after a miserable, misty slog is all the more memorable too, even if there isn't anyone else there to share it / spoil it, depending on viewpoint!
I look forward to exploring many more Munros from the comfort of my armchair!
Haha thanks JB sometimes that’s the best position to explore these things from, especially in the bad weather!! 😂
Hi Fiona. I realised after watching this that going through divorce & loss of a partner is like climbing a mountain. It's hard work, an uphill struggle & the top is shrouded in clag, clouds & the unknown. But you push on & eventually you reach your goal, the summit, and sometimes the clouds clear & everything looks beautiful. Keep being the 'bonny, wee' inspiration that you are. xxx
You’re so right Michael, how very insightful of you! Having been there yourself you know exactly how it feels. I’m glad you’re able to get those summit views nowadays. Thank you for your lovely comment as always x
Wow fiona another fantastic video and that famous lovely giggle so sweet
Haha thanks!
Your first but I’m sure not your last solo Munro, great achievement, as you said you never regret just getting out there! I wish I had your confidence on camera, to chat away, it’s lovely, always feels like we are there with you. Hope you have a lovely Sunday 😊
Wow what a compliment, thanks! I find it easier to do that when I’m on my own, when I’m with others I tend to feel a little self conscious. Getting better at it though. When I’m on my own I can pretend I’m talking to a friend, which you guys are all becoming anyway so not too far from the truth! ☺️. Have a lovely weekend! X
@@FarForFiona Your warm character certainly shines through, and it’s a great way to see the camera as the connection between friends. Thank you, hope you have a good time of this weeks adventure! x
Congrats on another first and overcoming your reluctance. Sometimes you just have to take that first step.
This is what I’m discovering. It’s making the decision to go that’s the hardest part!!
Hill of the Hog!! (and more music downloads) Might get a cold water dip tomorrow but might need a new knee and I have no money.
Amazing - your inspiring thanks for sharing !!
Doing a Munro by yourself is no mean feet - well done
Atb 👍🏽
Thanks Dave! It will be the first of many I think!
Your comment on achievement and self reliance were, for me, bang on the money👍 I do find that walking with others is a real joy but when I have some thinking to do then a long lone walk and if lucky a swim is my perfect day. Keep safe, well and happy.👍👍☕
I’m exactly the same Clive only I didn’t realise it until I started these adventures. I did very few things on my own so it’s only now that I’m really getting to experience and embrace the solitude of the wilderness. What a joy it can be! 😁
Thank you, Fiona! 😀❤️
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching! 😊
My channel is the Reluctant Fell Runner and your title is Beating Reluctance! I don't believe we've ever met so that's a bit harsh! Best wishes to you out there.
Haha I don’t think I’d be beating you anyway seeing as you’re a fell runner - reluctant or not - I tend to wheeze my way up these mountains on my hands and knees so wouldn’t be able to catch you 😂
Fiona, it's obvious that you have an amazing gift for helping others when they need a roadmap, a wee helping hand, you speak of the inspiration that gives you. What a wonderful outlook. Your clients are very lucky. I look on the adventures you generously share as questions to ask myself, so far my confidence has improved, I have learnt that I'm an introverted extrovert (walking breathing contradiction). I'm getting to know myself again, I'm falling in love and so far its kinda working out 😂
My next step will be to lower the very high barriers to let others in........
Solo achievements; Riding down Laggan Red MTB trail and cracking 2 ribs
Thanks for sharing your adventure/life journey x
Thank you Will for sharing a little bit more about yourself. With each little nugget I feel more and more inspired by your journey. I couldn’t be happier to hear that you’re falling in love again, what wonderful news. If you need a hand lowering those barriers I know a very good coach….😆.
Laggan red MTB trail, you’re a braver soul than I! Hearing that you cracked 2 ribs is not enticing me to take up the challenge 😂😂
@@FarForFiona you win hands down on bravery proven every week.
I have to confess that when I say I’m falling in love, it’s with myself. Is that wrong hahaha.
@@kiltedscotsman absolutely nothing wrong with that! You have to fall in love with yourself before you can fall in love with anyone else anyway! 😍
Yeah the changing weather is what i love about the bonnie land.I can relate to the being on your own thing and having to do everything, and the challenges,i found myself in that position when my wife died in april, but i guess thats life eh.
I’m so sorry to hear about your wife, it must still be very raw for you. It is life as you say, but it certainly doesn’t make it any easier knowing that. My dad died 2 years ago and I’ve had to watch my mum go through all of the struggles of being alone. It is a huge adjustment when you have shared a life with someone and then suddenly they are no longer there. My heart goes out to you. I know this isn’t much of an offering but if you felt you needed to speak to someone, I’d be happy to give you some of my time (no charge).
@@FarForFiona Thanks very much,i am sorry for blurting that out, your video and what you were talking just about struck a chord,i was trying to keep it under my hat.Watching your adventures gets me to a place where i could go outside again and feel the power of nature.
Another great post, what happens when the 12 months are up?
The big question! I haven’t decided yet. I do know that I’m thoroughly enjoying myself so may continue beyond the 12 months! 😁
💜 Scotland at its best 😊
And worst…and best again…and worst again 😂
@@FarForFiona yeah was up Ben Lomond with the kids sat and it bucketed doon a woman on the way down was like “it could be worse could have had the kids with us” 🤣 good character building was my reply xx
@@mandz861 🤣🤣 well that must have been an experience!! I’m amazed you managed to get them up there! What a family!!👏👏👏
