    I've practiced Kung fu before. It takes immense discipline to become 'good' at it and even then you remain a beginner. I've often heard "No. You not good. You less bad." if I got a big head, similar to how a martial arts teacher will start testing you if you brag. Usually with a classic "Oh, so you know everything?". You could practice Kung fu your whole life and still not know everything. It's insane

    As a saber fencer (competitive) and instructor of several decades, I personally found three major requirements to effective fighting: Measure, Timing, and Technique.
    If your measure is incorrect, nothing else matters. If your timing is off, you'll be vulnerable. If your technique is poor, your strike or defensive action won't have power or strength.
    Beyond all of that, it's definitely about striking without being struck as often as is possible... but YOU'D BETTER LEARN TO TAKE HITS. I'm serious. The more impervious you are to damage, the more deadly you are... even if you don't strike first. And for bloody heaven's sake, accept death (or losing) as a possibility, and stay calm right up until the moment you win or lose (die). 🙂 You'll save energy with brainpower instead of wasting it with rage and idiocy.

      @@GSXRI300 because it’s realistic, anyone with any form of martial art can go in and they have, the martial arts that were successful caught on and the ones that weren’t didn’t. That’s why traditional martial arts isn’t that common a skill for mma fighters, boxing, kick boxing, wrestling, and jiu Jitsu proved to be the most effective tools for mma fighters to know. A master of wing Chun would probably get taken down by a high school wrestler and get smashed because they are only used to fighting people who fight the same way they do. That’s why a lot of traditional martial arts fail people in many scenarios. Not to say traditional martial arts isn’t effective, but there are more effective forms than others. Henry cejudo, Conor McGregor, or Stephen Thompson. All very high level mma fighters who use a karate stance. Or Anthony Pettis who uses a lot of taekwondo kicks. It’s about taking whats effective in the context of anything goes. A lot of fighters in mma utilise traditional martial arts techniques but have the experience and the knowledge to apply them appropriately to a fight. I think the fights are a bit more scrappy because people are trying to get the finish, but must traditional martial arts matches involve scoring points for light contact. This likely contributes to some failures of traditional martial arts when they are applied in more realistic scenarios

    One thing that one should mention is that the origin of Karate lies in self-defense, not aggresion.
    The word, as you probably know, means 'Empty Hand', implementing that there ain't no use for weapons in Karate. This also implements the fact, and this is something my sensei's have told me several times, that Karate is meant as an Defense-only martial art in its truest sense - even tho you also got Kumite (the full contact 1v1) besides the traditional practice of Katas (solo or team duels).
    Karate is a reactionary MA which in daily life, you'd always use it defensively, never ever offensively.
    Sure tho a street fight (primarely those that are unfair and involve weapons) are something else and there are not many, given even one martial arts that can unarm a guy thats armed fire a firegun thats several feet away from you that for sure...even a common thing like a knife ends up pretty bad nomatter who you are, what martial art you practice or for how long you might be practicing it - thats just how things go down eventually
    Generaly I think nobody is that stupid to run at a guy that carries a knife or some other weapon in hand in the first place, no matter how hard you can fight in an even scenario

      Yes, I saw that and was thinking the same thing, but the other guy was Kung Fu I saw that fight on another channel once, Capoeira has many similarities to certain kung fu styles that also have the same movements in particular Monkey, Some of the tiger forms and some of the drunken forms. I really like the movements and play of Capoeira especially when timed well and done well. Maybe the poster thought the other guy was Karate because his movements were not as fluid as other kung fu styles. A bunch of the stuff mentioned in the video is not completely accurate, the difference between Karate and Kung fu is more than just linear versus circular, kung fu is just much larger overall encompassing many styles where Karate has a smaller more limited base of forms and techniques, but they drill them more thoroughly so they are often well-practiced fighters, some Karate styles were developed from the White Crane style of Kung Fu and Karate originally meant CHINA Hand in honor to its lineage.

      I do karate. The essence of it is: simplicity and power. Take the gloves off, so the full bone crushing power is unleashed: and one or two good hits should be enough to end most self-defence situations. Karate, is anti Street-thug, Aikido is anti-karate (but also overkill on the street-plus is so technical, if you stop training: you lose it. By contrast, you never forget how to throw a punch or a kick). Of course, as you have to expect most moves will be evaded or blocked: you lay down broadsides. Which this video demonstrated well: combine that with counter attack, and you're essentially relentlessly attacking. Kung Fu is certainly more complex and complete than karate: and could thus accurately be regarded as the most classical of martial arts. Bruce Lee himself thought it was too complex however, as it took a lifetime to master.

    I did Karate when i was 14 to16. Kung fu later in my 20s. IMO Western Karate is great for beginners as it provides a well rounded approach. Kung fu is more specialist in that the teacher takes time to break down the reasoning and you tend to gain something of a higher understanding, but Kung Fu class sizes tend to be smaller. My Karate experience was kind of Mc Dojo in that they tell you what to do and you copy it but there doesn't seem to be any in depth analysis on why exactly your doing this. Even with something as foundational as punching, it was like if you look like your doing it right then everything is fine, which isn't great tutelage IMO, i think that lack of 1 on 1 teaching has more to do with huge class sizes. BUT Karate is the best first step into that world IMO.

      The difficulty with the external styles (like Tae Kwon Do or Karate) is that you can only see the outside at the beginning. The internal side is difficult to teach to young kids and takes a long time to be effective for self-defense. So the mechanics are more useful at the beginning, especially at a young age.
      The internal side is more useful at an older age because you've developed the strength and understanding of your body. The internal (i.e. Tai Chi or Wing Chun) ends up supporting your health more than the external the older you get. But it is very difficult to understand even with the wisdom you gain from life experience.

    Tai chi really works!!! 👊There were 3 guys messing with me at the mall. I used lateral movement to only allow one attacker to attack me at a time. Then, like a surgeon, I took them apart one by one. “POW!!! RIB SLAP!!! POW!!! RIB SLAP!!! POW!!! RIB SLAP!!!”. In no time, my aggressors were defeated, spilling blood out of their mouths, regretting the day they messed with a true tai chi master. As I stared at my hands, I noticed they were shaking. “What is this power?” I asked myself. At that moment I knew, I had to spread the truth about the power of Tai chi. I spotted a family of four passing by. I noticed how big the father was so I quickly rushed over to them. I asked him if he knows true power. By the look in his eyes, I could tell he did not. So I blessed this man with a “POW RIB SLAP!”. Just like the aggressors before he began to bleed from the mouth, staring up at me. Right there I saw it! Now he knows true power. But not even a second later, his wife begins to scream. I think to myself, “why would she scream? Does she not understand the power I hold?” Then “POW RIB SLAP”! My body acted on it own. Ending the aggressor’s advances to call the police. I stared at the 2 children. They looked back. I slowly leaned in, I could tell they were terrified. I whispered in the eldest’s ear, “That’s what happens when you fuck with a tai chi master, ya feel me little man?” They both nod their heads and I dart off into the night. Never to be seen again. On the way home though, I tripped over my shoelace and fell face first in dog shit. While I picked the chunks of doo doo out of my mouth I came to a realization. I knew i needed to stop smoking crack, watching jake mace videos, and going to my local grocery stores to get pickled eggs. I am now 2 years sober and keep the power deep inside me

    I took a few lessons in Marshal Arts (maybe 3 or 4 times) when I was in my 20's and in the very first bout, I could not help but kick my instructors behind in seconds and the 2nd instructor, it was in part that they made a grave error in their arrogant assessment and underestimating of me, a serious mistake to never make in fighting. I was a seriously experienced street fighter and faster than "greased-lightening" and I had that internal-power-force (Berserker) strength second to none! When I was in my 40's I gave lessons to my oldest Son when he was in the 1st grade of elementary school, because a bully was beating him up. I taught self defense and movements, how to strike a hard effective blow, but the very most important part was to teach and pass on to him, was the "Internal- Spirit" that makes a fighter/winner. Without this, it can all just be mental exercise and social status and build a little self confidence. I also had him read "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu. Well my Son came home with a good win and was never bullied again as was expected.

It is not correct to generalize kungfu are more circular and karate is more linear. Did instance, wing Chun is Chinese martial art and it has mostly linear moves. And there are clips in this video in which a Chinese martial artist was sparing with a taekwondo martial artist (which is a Korean martial art). the reason why Bruce Lee focused more on attributes of the fighter and integrated what is most effective from different styles, thus Jeet Kune Do. So, it is actually incorrect to call Jeet Kune Do a style but a way to master one's attributes. YMMV. IMHO

      almost all of the clips are chinese propaganda used to slander other martial arts. An early clip was Karate vs Muay Thai and the muay thai fighter broke the rules and hit the face (any punch you dont expect is the one that hurts the most and can most easily knock you out), and the one with karate vs drunken fist the drunken fist guy got destroyed. The school fights, the kung fu vs muay thai fights, and pretty much all the other clips are proven propaganda pieces. its kinda sad

    History of karate tells us Okinawa was the creation place of today's karate. The Masters of that day wanted to spread this defence knowledge around the planet so styles were born. If you observe the katas of karate, you'll see very similar movements. Japan was chosen because of their ridged way of approaching defense study. Personally, I've studied three styles Shotokan, Kempo or Kenpo ( same ) and Takwondo. The first & last my favorites, differed in stances but were basically the same moves. Upper body shotokans focus a deep stance strong based. Narrow stance being lower body focus Takwondo legs. The ladder due to legs being 3 to five times stronger, keeping distance. The JKA (Japanese Karate Asso.) Was very strict and took a while to become shodan...master of basics. Loved both...I'm 68yrs old and still love doing forms, if I can find privacy.
    Right on Colin...the belt is only as tough as the man wearing it and the level of dedication to practice is achieved.

      How is that deadly? You maybe mean effective? And if so, you need to specify in what situation it is effective.
      If you are going to box against a boxer the TKD wont help you much, kick twice and you lost. In an MMA cage its better to be well versed in mma, wrestling, or bjj, neither muay thai nor tkd will help you much. On the street i would prefer krav maga as it is much focused on taking someone out and getting away, and its easier to get decent at than tkd or muay thai.

      @@eric4681702 well the analogy of kicking in a boxing match is absurd. Sure! MMA's base is Wrestling but let's not kid ourselves Muay Thai is the go to striking discipline. And many fighters yesterday and today come from a Traditional martial arts background such as Karate and Tae Kwon Do. I'll give you the perfect example! Two Wrestlers fight! Usman vs Colvington. The Wrestling canceled each other out. So the match was won via striking. This is why Mixed Martial Artists need to know at least 1 striking discipline. On the street! You prefer Krav Maga!! Most Krav Maga places only care about profiteering. Most of them are so watered down that they give their students a false sense of security. And this is not only socially irresponsible but a very dangerous thing to do with new students who believe they can defend themselves when they can't. If you run into these ridiculous establishments. You're better off taking anything else.

    • @eric4681702
      @eric4681702 3 года назад +3

      @@marrokraff998 the analogy of kicking in a boxing match was simply to indicate that you need to specify the situation before you can judge which style/sport is the most "deadly" or effective. As the original poster didn't do that his complete argument was kind of useless to start with already.
      MMA's base is not wrestling, maybe you should look into the history of MMA a bit more before making big statements (Rorion Gracie was one of the founders and Royce Gracie won the first UFC, it seems bjj is much more the foundation).
      Not sure what your point is with muay thai being the "go to" striking discipline: is it that different from kickboxing, thaiboxing, or full contact karate? And sure many fighters come from traditional martial arts... thats because not many parents want their 6-year old boy to start MMA training. What is your point?
      And i point to krav maga as most effective on the street as it finds a good balance between things "everybody" can learn in a relatively short period of time and "effectiveness" to get away. A sport as boxing would probably work better, but requires more training and doing actual fights (everybody has a plan until they got punched in the face). Not many people are cut out to box. Bjj would be the most effective sport to master for MMA, but I wouldnt want to take someone down on the street as there is a good chance some bystander might kick you in the face. Saying that krav maga is not a good sport for self defense because there are some bad gyms is a very strange argument. It says something about a specific gym, not about the sport.
      (btw i have a background in tkd (10 years) muay thai (10 years) and "MMA" (1 year) - my tkd history would be mostly useless for self defense or a fight in a ring or cage, my muay thai history the most useful as i have fought several fights. But i've never found enough time to train my groundwork further otherwise that would be most effective for in a ring)

    • @marrokraff998

      @@eric4681702 that's nonsensical! When have you seen anyone kick in a boxing match! So no your comment is more dumb than the original posters blanket statement. And where have you been! Sure BJJ was the base almost 30 years ago. But that has long since changed once Wrestlers found out how to defend against BJJ. It is Wrestling that dictates whether the fight remains standing or goes to the ground. When was the last BJJ background Champion in any division in the UFC? That's right! A long time ago! Randy Coleman, Kevin Randleman, Mark Kerry, Randy Couture, Josh Barnett, Cain Velasquez, Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic. And that's just the heavyweight division. How about others. T.J Dillashaw, Jon Jones, Kumaru Usman, Henry Cejudo and Demetrius Johnson. As of 2018 Wrestling has produced 28 UFC Champions by primary style. 11 more than BJJ. And in 2021 the difference is even greater. Muay Thai 4. Tae Kwon Do 2. Where is Krav Maga on the list of UFC champions? And other MMA organizations. And who says Krav Maga is more effective in a short amount of time. If you've been training for 20 years. You should know this! That it depends on many factors. The type of student. The physical attributes of said student. Whether student can easily absorb the types of moves being taught. The level of instruction. And even the competition in that particular establishment. So how can you quantify and justify that something like Krav Maga is more practical than any other discipline. Krav Maga is unproven in mixed martial arts competition. And don't say you can't finger jab the eyes and kick the balls in MMA. Because most Krav Maga practitioners still won't be able to do that against someone like Bas Rutten. And have you seen the crappy Krav Maga establishments. They're a total joke! Watered down chicken scratch! Are you kidding me?

    • @eric4681702
      @eric4681702 3 года назад +1

      @@marrokraff998 you seem to still not understand the point, so let me repeat it once more and hopefully it reaches your brain this time: saying a certain style is most effective (or deadliest) is nonsensical if you dont specify the situation! With a tkd background you will not do well in a boxing match because you are not allowed to kick, if you do you lose and you were completely ineffective in winning. Thats why nobody kicks in boxing matches. Get it now?
      And you seem to admit that bjj was indeed the base of MMA, since you yourself say "...long since changed once wrestlers...". Long since changed indicates wrestling was not the base, so we seem to agree there.
      Krav maga is not on the list of UFC champions because krav maga is not a sport but a self-defense system. Shooting a gun is also very effective for self-defense, but where are the UFC champions with a shooting background? Your questions make no sense, you seem terribly confused.
      And i am saying that krav maga is most effective for self-defense on the street regardless the person when you have a relatively short time to train. That means if you keep everything else the same, i think it would be most benificial to learn krav maga over any other sport for self-defense. I would have more confidence a 22-year old girl of 55kg who cannot absorb hits very well does better in a self-defense situation after 6 months of krav maga than if she did 6 months of boxing, muay thai, or whatever other sport. Same for an overweight 50-year old guy, a 14-year old boy with bad eyesight, a 60-year old male-feminist, etc etc etc. They would all suck after 6 months of training in any sport, but at least with krav maga they would suck a tiny bit less with respect to self-defense. Key words here are "keeping everything else the same", so saying that if the krav maga school sucks or the teacher is bad is not an argument, because if they did kickboxing or wrestling at a school that sucks or under a teacher that is bad they would also not improve much. You cannot say wrestling is better because a 25-year old athlete with a gift for fighting improves a lot in 6 months of training under a top coach while a 80-year old grandma in a wheelchair doing 6 months of krav maga cannot do anything. That would be a false comparison. So stop looking at specific schools you know where they teach krav maga in a bad way, but look at the system itself. My previous muay thai trainer added first boxing to his gym and later krav maga, and with his background (in boxing and muay thai) he was able to teach krav maga the way it is supposed to be tought (based on how the israeli military teaches it to their new recruits). That you know some mall-gym in the USA where a bad teacher does everything wrong doesnt make krav maga, it makes him bad.
