Even though it broke my heart at the time, breaking the Jam up at that point was probably the right thing to do. That and the fact that they will never do a "reunion tour" has made the band and those songs mean that much more to me. Of course part of me would love to see them play together one last time, but another part of me admires PW's resolve to not "tarnish" the beauty of the memories. No matter what, The Jam was one of the greatest bands ever, and those were/are some of the best songs ever. Thanks guys. Peace.
+TheMisterMonkeyman Yeah, what would the world do without all those vapid effette pretentious Style council videos? Nice sweaters wrapped around the neck, though.
The radio interview bit around 15 mins was fascinating to me, As well as being a life long Jam fan, I also study accents. Listening to Paul then, you can really hear his dad’s accent coming through, which sounds slightly south western. For example, when he says “famous”, “wise”, “better” and “environment”. Interesting stuff. For a geek like me anyway.
I never got to see them live (born in 81), my dad saw them over 20 times. I saw "from the jam" a few times which was brilliant. But not seeing the Jam live makes me very very sad.
Paul, if you are perhaps reading this, please reconsider your stance on a reunion tour. It could be a festival type thing with members from ALL of your bands. I loved them all so. I never since 1979 wavered in my enjoyment and support of your understanding of your music, and the direction it needed to grow. Your music literally changed my life. First hearing it then seeing Dick Gregory speak , crystallized my desire to understand the political structures that have failed so miserably in alleviating the worlds problems. That led to studies in philosophy and political science. Ive seen many hundreds and hundreds of concerts in my life, EXCEPT for the one who's always been my favorite and whos affected me most, and that is you Mr . Weller. PLEASE reconsider a US tour, your music is needed here more then ever, i truly believe you could be the catalyst of change we need here . Your body f work is well respected by many here now-a-days, aint like the BOC days..😅😅🤣🤣😉
For me as a kid at the time they were outstanding and much more influential than the pistols overall. Still love and listen to it all because it bears that ... it was bloody good and blows most current fluff off the map Weller is obviously a very talented bloke but the three together epitomised the time. I remember In the City coming out and I heard it and stopped .... “who the f**** Is that” Then All Mod Cons ... everywhere you went that was what was played on rubbish record players And so on, thanks all three of you
I really wish they would release a collection of their pre-Polydor years. 1973 to 1976. There must be at least 25 to 30 songs they could put on it. Covers and slight originals for sure but so much time has elapsed that it's historical now. The recorded output of The Jam is actaully 10 years which really puts things in persepctive and makes it easier to comprehend why Paul wanted to call it a day in 82. It was a long time.
it's interesting to hear the very early Jam covers & even some originals it seems Paul in a roundabout way kinda went back to those Soul & RnB roots with The Style Council. Albeit with a contemporary 80's Pop Sound.
My introduction to The Jam was through my cousin after listening to All mod cons i was hooked In the city was then brought and the modern world followed which i thought was a good album to be fair. The Jam set me off in search of other mod revival bands and into the scooter scene. i was gutted when they broke up after being a big influence on me .
Shit i remember this I was off camping when it was on so set two video recorders linked to two radios at home and took a radio this was from 1994 not 2002
He should have split the band after Sound Affects. The Gift isn't the band, it's almost a solo lp of Weller's. I hardly ever listen to it but the others are always on, no wonder Rick got so pissed off.
Funny stuff.Friends dont sue each other, yet Paul says we weren't close mates.I dont know,I hate to think Paul and John were keeping some dosh owed to the other 2 guys in the band who as we loved as fans.Sounds a bit cheapskates from the multi millionaire Weller camp.Who knows, hopefully that bollocks is over now.
Don't include yourself in the Who, Stooges through to The Jam lineage, Gallagher. Oasis are poor songwriters as were Stone Roses. The Jam and The Stooges and The Who are on an other echelon Mister Gallagher.
"class" in the mind of Weller is really a hang up about not being educated or speaking proper English. Not anybody else's fault but he and his family's.
+Bruno TaTa Yeah Weller's uneducated lol that's why he's worth millions. I don't see any videos of you being interviewed or performing songs that you wrote on here. I suppose that's not anybody else's fault but yours and your family's
There wasn't much social mobility back then though there was more income equality. Despite that class still mattered and no matter how much you earned if you were from a working class background it still mattered to the middle class.
One of the greatest bands Britain has ever produced.
Maybe the greatest
What do mean. "One of " lol.
The only band that had any efft on me.
The soundtrack of my teenage years.
They will always be my choice as the no1 British band of all time.

Weller is having a very successful solo career ,would he be dusting off the mohair suit if the hits had dried up?
@@electricleg207 NO!
@@brucec43 Oh get over it. The Jam split - get over it!
@@electricleg207 Nope.
I was one of the kids looking over Vic Smiths shoulder at the Townhouse studios during the recording of Sound Effects!
77 to 82 they created some of the greatest tracks of all time .

Paul Weller is a legend #fact
@TheRealCritique He's still a fucking legend though and no one could ever argue with that

awesome...period !
To me the greatest gand of all time ..
Classic rip roaring riiffs from the master Paul Weller
it's not about sandwiches; it's about the music.
if you're not familiar w/ TheJAM, the sound here is sub-par at best. go to the re-mastered stuff. thumbs up for story, tho.

Anyone know why some of the Jam videos are blocked in the US and Canada?
I don't know. I was wondering the same thing. Ask Polydor records maybe?

1:12:16 "In the 20 years since The Jam split..." They split in 82 so it couldn't have been 94. Ross then also mentions a court case in 96.

Noel Gallagher is kissing Weller's butt all throughout his interview. I hope he keeps chapstick handy.
Reunion tour
