This performance is one I treasure! This invitation came only 24 hours the day before , from the Tucker Foundation who desperately needed to replace the soprano who'd cancelled her participation on very short notice! I was delighted to jump in because Steven Mercurio was the scheduled conductor ; one I adore collaborating with and who's Turandot ending (which he arranged and composed ) I debuted and was my debut in this tremendous role in the wonderful Academy of Music in Philadelphia! Despite my having been a recipient of the Tucker Foundation's career grant twice, I had never been officially invited to sing in any of the previous Tucker Foundation concerts , as have all previous recipients. I was nevertheless, honored and very happy to help the Foundation in their hour of need!!
Ms. Marc, I have long been an avid loyal fan of yours ever since I discovered your debut album. Your voice possesses the most unique, beautiful and rare timbre. I heard your Turandot with Washington Natl Opera years ago. The voice is even more stunning in person. I also met you backstage during a WNO Opera Gala at the Strathmore Theatre and you were very kind and down to earth. Please tell your story!! We/I want to know what ignorant persons are the cause of us, your fans, not hearing you anymore. You should still do concerts since your voice is still in its prime. I definitely would pay to hear you again!! All the best to you always!! Hugs!!
My dearest loyal fans & loving friends🙏🌹 I have read your comments here and am so very genuinely and profoundly touched !! A few things happened several years ago which , altogether, are responsible for denying me the chance to continue sharing with you all , this gift which is a true blessing in my life, my Profound Calling from my earliest recollections at age 4 and the essence of my soul , without which continues to torment my very existence!! My mentor & friend Giuseppe Sinopoli died suddenly while conducting Aida in Berlin , and a very serious accident on the Met stage in the final dress rehearsal of Turandot , it was later discovered, had caused me serious back injury because of which forced me to have emergency surgery 6 years later. My then management stopped working for me, much to my dismay, I guess, only because they knew it would be a lengthy recovery , and thank God, I did make a full & absolute recovery! Nothing of my singing suffered as a result, but rather, my voice has continued to remain healthy and now is in its absolute Prime for a true Jugendliche dramatic soprano!! Until now, despite tireless efforts, I have not secured a trustworthy, business savvy management, which for an international artist of my standing is an absolute necessity... So, until a smart and savvy business person who has the capacity to know well , all that an artist and singer with my talent as well as experience still offers our world , be it opera or concert repertoire, my heart & soul will continue to ache for all which is and has been denied us...and DARE to hope that someone ...someday soon, who truly appreciates what I will always be ready to share & give, reaches out to me with strong conviction, a brilliant mind and the heart of a warrior to offer ME SERIOUS international representation......and you have my word and heartfelt promise, I WILL GIVE YOU MY ALL & MY ABSOLUTE BEST EVERY CHANCE I AM OFFERED TO STEP ONTO THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE AGAIN!!! 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹 Alessandra Marc The American Diva Www.Alessandramarc.com

Wow. There were three sopranos who I always thought had the most exciting too ranges to listen too; Deborah Voigt, Leonie Rysankek and Alessandra Marc!!!! What a voice!
This disappeared from RUclips for a long time. When she hits that first high B5 I want to fall down and kick my feet in the air. She had the most exciting voice of my generation. I saw her in the Verdi Requiem: singing both incredibly lyrical and then these massive high notes.
Dear John ! Thank you so very much for your lovely comments & compliments !! Just for the record, I STILL have the very same voice AND singing ability !! I hope to tell my story for the many wonderful fans who deserve to know the truth...which will prove to be very revealing and explain my absence from the international stage, which has and has had absolutely nothing to do with my voice nor my singing !

@@alessandramarc285 I’ve been a major fan since this night. I watched this performance live with some college classmates. I was knocked off of my feet. The I started following any recordings or clips I could find. I can’t wait to hear your story!
Stunning full of control, abandon, dark yet steely in that boyish huge soprano sound so familiar in Wagner/ Strauss casting. I have always enjoyed this sepharic dramatic soprano who creates a volcano of vocal energy as she climbs to the upper voice. In Elektra Marc’s voice was lyric and enormous. This performance was sumptuous beyond taking the listener out of themselves to another realm via it’s resonance. Brava!!
You have one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. I was privileged to hear you in Turandot at WNO and in a lovely Xmas recital at the National Gallery of Art in DC. Glad to be another DMV resident! I wish you made more recordings!
I’m SO glad this is back on RUclips. This Tucker gala was the first time I was exposed to Turandot as a young singer. Even now, more than 20 years on, this performance amazes me. There are VERY few singers with dramatic voices that can manage a great legato line in this aria. The tessitura is cruel, the orchestration is dense- it’s a voice killer and it takes a really special instrument to do it well. But, she did better than “well”, she managed it with aplomb. The vocal heft is there, sure, but it’s technique- the phrasing- the line….and that first high B just bowled me over. Not many voices sound better as they go higher. I’m still impressed. I don’t sing as much as I used to, but I know great singing when I hear it. That she didn’t have a more prolific career always baffled me. Voices like this are exceedingly rare. Brava. ❤️
Glorious. She SINGS every note. So much to admire - the legato phrasing, the portamenti, the rock-solid core of the sound. The highs are thrilling because they're so secure and part of the line.
My heartfelt gratitude!! Thank you so much for the lovely compliment! The truth is that I STILL have this voice which is just now in its Prime as a true dramatic soprano , as well as my singing ability !! What has caused my absence fro the international stage is nothing shy of criminal and something I hope to share in a book as well as in a Podcast interview in the near future with Maestro Tramm's Pod vast series Music Matters !! All my wonderful, loyal and devoted fans deserve to know the truth and to hear it from me !!! I send you my heartfelt gratitude along with genuine kindness 🙏🌹 Alessandra Marc
Her vibrato is too fast (almost a bleat), especially in this repertoire. It disrupts the musical line and demonstrates underdeveloped technique. Never been a fan, and this confirms it.
@@sea1song I don’t like either. A wobble is as bad as a bleat. A healthy, even vibrato should be the goal with variation in speed based on unique singer and voice type (coloratura is typically going to have a faster vibrato than a dramatic, younger singers tend to have quicker vibratos than more mature voices).

I much prefer this kind of vibrato instead of the wobble many sopranos have because they've wrecked their voice.
