I'm glad, Sam. it's such a useful tool and I'm always stunned how many people tell me they've never heard of it. Or it's mac equivalent. Please share the video with others! Had no idea til today that it has been viewed over 1700 times! I made it and forgot about it a week later! ;)

As of my typing this on Oct 5, 2020, neither the original Win 7 version nor the slightly improved Win 10 version allow adding text within Snipping tool itself. You can highlight or draw a bit, like I do in my video, but nothing as advanced as text. Win 10 is now pushing a new replacement tool called Snip and Sketch (Windows+Shift+S) which is very similar but has a few new bells and whistles, but still not the adding of text. I wish it did! Thanks for writing. Hope you'll subscribe.

You would probably want something like Greenshot or ShareX for this.

Initially it just displays what you copied. You can click the save icon and save it to wherever you like on your computer (or copy it somewhere if you only need it temporarily)
