As a child I lived in German Town which is a suburb of Memphis. I lived only minutes away from where Elvis lived for a short time before he moved into Graceland. I was lucky enough to chat with him a few times as a kid and once he took me and a few other boys to Ellis Auditorium to hear Godspel.
Elvis was an underprivileged white southerner who grew up among people of color and like most people of color he found refuge in religious music such as Godspel and Negro spirituals and work songs. Elvis could not read music, and had no technical knowledge about music. But Elvis was a gifted actor and could recite a song in a way that made one believe he had written it himself. Each syllable of a word is part of the word's soul and by treating each syllable in the lyrics of a song with respect, the song gains soul. Elvis knew that and he mastered it.

Elvis starts out soft and delicate and his voice gradually builds in strength so by the end it is deep and powerful.
    Amazing.

I’ve already written a comment but watched your wonderful reaction again. You were so right on. First time I heard him I gong this during his recording at the studio ( Elvis in Nashville 2020) I cried like a baby. Very few instruments with that voice out front was so tender it was like he sang it directly to me. Thanks again Mike for being so authentic with your reactions. It brings back so many emotions. Elvis left us such a great gift of his voice and how emotive he sings that we will have always for generations to come. Many videos have been clarified and songs remastered. No auto tuning. Just a voice, a man who loved the art of singing and shared it with the world. A world who knew him by his first name only and loyal loving fans that keep his name alive. 😢❤❤❤❤❤

Su voz cómo transita de una emoción a otra su mirada fatigada con esos ojos azules su sudor su muestra de entrega en cada poro de su piel es mitad humano mitad de otro planeta 😏👑 tu silencio al final dice mucho a veces las palabras no salen.

In an interview, Paul Simon (who wrote the song) said that Elvis's version was the best of all of them. He also said: "I've lost my song to Elvis." Can't get better praise than that.

This man could just sing anything and make it amazing. Just incredible. No dancing, no huge light show or stuff going on behind him.. just his amazing voice.. captured the audience.. then the Sweet Inspirations would come in .. sing amazing backup vocals.. but Elvis was the Voice you heard.

Hi Mike , just wanted to say thank you again for another great reaction to the one and only Elvis , I love the fact that you pick up on the little things that he does , like a look or a gesture to his family group b, Everyone Loved working with Elvis , he was the Total Package, Voice Charisma Charm and Looks that could kill, but also he is in total commando of the entire stage , but, not in a selfish way , he always introduced the entire group to the audience , I remember the first time I saw him in Knoxville Tennessee on April 8 72, and he said , now that you have had a chance to see me , Let me see you and turned the house lights on,, I was only 11 years old and it is etched in my heart and soul forever, There simply is No one else that can touch the audience like this beautiful Man,, I am so grateful for the 3 times I was blessed to witness the Mystic and Magic, Elvis is a Priceless Gift from God and he needed to rest, so God called him home, and I know that he is at peace now , but that tragic day in History is a day that I have a hard time facing, just like so many millions of people around the world, No one Stands a chance when it comes to Elvis, thanks again and by the way, waiting for you to react to Elvis singing Loving Arms, no video concert , but it doesn't matter what ELVIS , the pics Tell the story. Thanks for sharing Elvis. He is such a great singer. His band that consisted of Ronnie Tutt, drummer; Jerry Schef, bass; James Burton and John Wilkinson, guitar, and Glenn Hardin, piano were fantastic musicians. Most of them played with Elvis until his death. ❤

Charlie Hodge on acoustic rhythm guitar & also harmonised with Elvis when needed, & Elvis’ right hand man. Elvis loved Charlie & had a bedroom with his name on the door in all of his homes, & no-one else was allowed to sleep in that room.

Charlie seemed like a friend to Elvis. Also, his band was true to him. Ronnie played for several singers, including Neil Diamond, and said Elvis was the best. Ronnie said Elvis didn’t tell him what to play. James Burton cared for Elvis, and stated the movie didn’t tell all the parts correctly. I saw Ronnie, James and Glenn playing a tribute for Elvis. The Sweet Inspirations said many wonderful things about Elvis. JD Sumner loved Elvis dearly. He struggled from crying during an interview. The Stamp Quartet appeared to care for Elvis, too. I still question the motives of the Memphis Mafia. Maybe they were good people, but I didn’t grasp that. To sum it all up, Elvis was loved by many. I listen to Elvis daily through videos. He was gorgeous, and his outfits were outstanding.

While he was in Germany during his 2nd year army duty, he worked with his close buddy Charlie Hodge, working to develop his voice control as he loved the great tenor voices of male performers of opera music. Charlie was part of his Las Vegas backup singers and they harmonized many songs together. Yes, he did conduct much of the instruments as well as the singers to reach the stage presence he wanted to conquer. He was a genius with his musical talent of voice and ability to use any of the instruments within his balance he was working to bring to his fans. I appreciate your ability to listen and understand his brilliance. 🙏✝❤🇺🇸

She said in an interview that elvis took good care of jis back up singers paying them 65,000 per year with Benny's and that was way beck then equivelent to now days around 250,000. So he was very generous.

Some fans may not agree, but in my opinion Elvis’ first love was acting. His life long dream was to be an actor who was taken seriously in the industry. Sadly, due to the enormous financial success of his musically based lightweight movies, Elvis did not get to realise his dream, which I believe contributed to his clinical depression and untimely death. But Elvis used his natural acting ability in the way he delivered his songs. As you said, his arrangements built the drama, pulled it back and then built it up to a climactic close. First and foremost Elvis was the ultimate actor, who took his audience with him all the way.

I truly think the saddest thing is that Colonel Parker was his manager.. he was a Felon here in the states and he wouldn't allow Elvis to go overseas.. because he couldn't go overseas.. Anyone that wanted to see Elvis live had to come to the states. Totally hurt Elvis's career in my mind. In today's society.. wouldn't have happened I think. That man took so much money from Elvis and denied Elvis many opportunites

  • @carolhayar3037
    @carolhayar3037 3 месяца назад +6

I'm going to throw out a few suggestions, 2 of which hardly get recommendations so I hope that won't be a deterrent because they are both marvelous but for 2 different reasons.
#`1. not live but accompanied by beautiful photos -- the point of this song is THAT VOICE -- it just may be the epitome of hearing what his voice was capable of leading up to a glass shattering finish -- "Tomorrow Never Comes" (1970) at ruclips.net/video/QhYtB7pjkS0/видео.html (4:12 min.).
#2. I refer to this as "the water throwing incident" from his 1972 Hampton Roads, Virginia concert -- @ very, very start of the video Elvis called out “Please Release Me” but the band began playing “I Can’t Stop Loving You” - he didn’t stop them, he went right into the song, then walking over to his glass of water, picked it up & playfully threw it at Glen @ piano -- a fun, powerhouse, energetic performance; a different Elvis w-a slightly deeper, richer voice at ruclips.net/video/LNtP5Gd8QGE/видео.html (2:25 min.) --sometimes the video does not pick up his voice @ extreme beginning so back it up to be sure you hear him say Please Release Me, then the water incident will make sense; also note his slightly irritated look @ beginning.
Below Belinda recommended "What Now My Love" from the rehearsal show -- he did a rehearsal show prior to the live one & we are both in agreement that this song from the rehearsal show tops the live version. At any rate, It's at ruclips.net/video/UpjKlOM7KQ4/видео.html (3:14 min.). Thx so much.
