I am listening to the new refoamed HPM700 speakers. Still sounds great after all these years. I had to cut 1mm of the edge of the foam an let a 15 Hz sinus going while glueing the outside of the foam to make shure the voicecoil does not scratch.
D I D S C I E N C E D I E ?......who on earth came up with this utterly stupid & ridiculous idea of putting 15hz (or any bass frequency) thru a speaker while foam-edge glue is drying? it shows a complete misunderstanding of how a speaker's unseen inner parts work - it don't make any sense as voice-coil rubbing is caused from a laterally displaced voice-coil in the mag's gap, a displacement that is 90 deg' offset to voice-coil & cone movement, which is why my repaired 18" woofer could have produced 15Hz all day long AND still with a very audible gravely voice-coil rubbing despite a 15Hz tone playing & bass notes from 15hz to 120Hz made it rub audibly before i re-foamed it properly using shims to ensure centralization of the voice-coil. Putting 15Hz or any other bass tones into any speaker DOES NOT ensure magnet gap/voice coil centralization, if it did, then the bass tones in music would constantly ensure voice-coil rubbing would never ever happen in a speaker as long as deep bass tones are being heard.. oh yeah? this is utter bollocks & never the case for any dynamic speaker so forget this non-science-based rubbish. If you say this nonsense / waste-of-time method worked for you, it simply means that when you re-foamed your speaker- your voice-coil was not out of alignment in the first place. /
@SpeakerFreak95 I must admit it took a while to pluck up the courage to take the cap off the glue. I had never done it before so it was a first for me. Really pleased with the results and the person who bought them from us via ebay will hopefully love them too
@theoreticalninja1 Its called an Edge-it refoam kit and the one you need is angle attach and not flat attach. If in doubt email them as they are very helpfull
I probably was lucky that the coils didn't scratch but it was fairly easy to centre these ones. If you look at my HPM30 video those ones were much more difficult to centre but I used plain paper strips as shims and it worked really well.
Also, after removing the large rubber gasket, I believe you are not supposed to remove the paper gasket that is between the old foam and the woofer frame. You should have just cleaned off the old foam from the top of the paper gasket and the new foam would have mounted right on top of it.
No I know you are supposed to put the foam under the cone but I glued it to the front face of the cone in the traditional easy way. You won't believe the crap I got on here for doing it 😂 so what though they are mine and I don't really give a 💩. Some people actually said it affects the sound 😂😂😂😂😂 really people f*** offfffff 😂😂😂🖕🏻
I don't think you would be able to buy a replacement graphite cone as these were made in the 1970s. You might be able to find an original for sale on ebay etc. You might have to change the whole driver. I repaired a crack in mine but if it is shattered it is unfortunately not repairable. Best bet is probably replace both bass drivers with a similar spec.
I have the same speakers wit the same problem. Which repair kit did you buy/what size are the woofers? (I have never done this before and I'm not sure how to measure them)
How do i glue a Polymer Graphite Cone? It have a crack with 4 or 5 cm but the two sides perfectly fit together. It's really hard to notice, but its cracked. It's a 12'' woofer from a pioneer s-910.
I have a hairline crack about 2-3 inches long on one of my 12" woofers too. I have a pair of Pioneer model DSS-9 speakers. Did you ever get an answer for your question?
The way I did it was to pour a line of liquid silicone rubber along the length of the crack but on the rear of the cone so it won't show. Silicone will stick fast to any surface and because it's rubber it is very strong and flexible. Don't use normal plumbing silicone because it is too thick and lumpy.
Yes, it is a shame that you installed the foam on the topside edge of the cone instead of the underside like the original was. And, you could have shimmed and saved the original dust cap. Just cut 95% around the outer circumference of the dust cap and flip the dust cap up, shim, and when you are done ...removed the shims & just re-glue the dust cap back on.

My father in law just gave me a pair of 900s with a marantz 2265b and a pioneer pl518.

great tutorial, and your voice is so relaxing! nice work
You glued the foam to the wrong side of the cone - it should go on the bottom of the cone!
Its noob
@Shandybrother What wedding ? I prefer to live in sin, ps the HPM700s may have gone but ive just restored a pair of HPM40s. May get some video up soon

Nice job
i had the same amp till someone stole it. it rocked. cheers.
right on thanks i have to doo mine..cheers.
Did you glue inside diameter foam to exposed side of cone? or to underside of cone?

Hello, I wanted to ask you, if today it is possible to buy a graphite cone for the 700 hpm or something of good quality that is similar? thank you

The lip is suppose to go on the inside. Now they dont look original. : (
Who gives a fuck
/r/ASMR says hi.
неаккуратная работа
диффузор вымазал очистителем
подвес наклеил поверху
клей из под подвеса торчит
bad work the foam surrounds should be glued from the inside and not from the outside as you did.
I know but no one cares
Bad job
