Nov 16th - WOW - Formula 1 has a new fan ! Didn't know much about F1. But now all I want to do is study it and understand this sport. I can't seem to get enough of it. Not much into racing until now. I loved this track, I didn't want to leave the whole time I was there. I can't wait to go back. Add F1 to your bucket list, it's a must see. I am really thrown back to it all.
Slightly off target, we landed at Weehawken, New Jersey. Not too bad though, we've actually got a nice view of midtown Manhattan, and run through the Hudson River Palisades, giving it a nice Monegesque feel.
Actually, its in New Jersey with a New York city backdrop and it doesnt look like it will be ready. After the Montreal race, Vettle and Coulthard did some promotional stuff in NJ and Coulthard said that it looks like there's too much work to be done preparing the circuit because the roads were old and bowed in the middle. But, Austin looks like it will be a great track !! Turn one is going to be amazing !! There's enough street circuits, Austin should make for a great F1 GP !
I've driven the track on f1 2012 and the first corner is awesome, so imagine the corner in real life! Also the rest of the first sector is a remix of Silverstone's Maggots and Brackets, while a part of the third sector was taken from Hockenheim's last corner section. Just take the awesome parts from tracks and put them together in one!
I'm talking about where the grand prix is located, not the official name. The European Grand Prix is located in Valencia, Spain. Back when Hockenheim was the German Grand Prix, the European Grand Prix was at the Nurburgring in Germany sometimes. Imola, located in Italy, was called the San Marino Grand Prix.
Finally a track from Tilke that might actually be great fun to watch, has taken great corners from great tracks, Maggots and Becketts from Silverstone, Turn 8 from turkey. Turn 1 also seems a little bit like turn one at the A1 Ring in Austria, but in reverse. Looking forward to it! :D
I do love the idea of IRL cars at the Circuit of the Americas. Would provide a nice opportunity for a little comparison. And out of curiosity, how do you like the Circuit Gilles Vinneneuve, at Montreal?
There were well over 100,000 at Indy on race day, closer to 200,000 the first year (Inculding myself). They need to cut prices dramatically when they start selling non-PSL seats.
Funny, listened to an interview with Jenson Button after today's qualifying and he said the first half of this circuit was the most fun he's had driving F1 in a long time...
I hope this turns out to be a great event for F1 and Americans will learn that there is actually other motorsports in the world other than NASCAR. I hope F1 will become more popular in the states and not just for this event but forever onwards. And also that the people already in the sport will like the new track and it can become sort of one of the permanent spots on the calendar sort of like Melbourne.
It is a hell of a circuit. Being there you can really see just how much they had to hussel to get it done and how much they need to do yet. Aminities are nice but I really don't care that much. The track itself is one of the better new tracks I've seen if not the best they have been to. Never saw anyone catching Vetel so that made it exciting. Having said that, while the layout is good it isn't RA where those cars would be over 200 3 times a lap with very 3 good overtaking opportnities
grand father indycar? you mean european races between villages when later banned from street they build the first race purpose track: Brooklands wich was the model for the indy 500.
IRL, or Indy Cars, race on only 3 ovals and the majority are natural terrain road courses so no need for an oval there. It would be fun to see the IndyCars on the same circuit but Bernie usually forbids it in the contracts.
that circuit was awesome, it's a shame that all criteria used to select a track for the schedule breaks down only to who offers the most cash to Bernie, because if it was for racing and track qualities, Argentina would easily make to cut to be at the f1 schedule every season
+Lyness Rogers You've gotta start alot younger than you are right now unfortunately. Lewis Hamilton was already scouted by McClaren as a pre-teen if I remember right. He was racing go-carts before he was 10.
If Indy can accomodate 400,000 for the 500, you wouldn't really expect there to be traffic jams. I have no doubt the 220,000 figure for 2000 was pretty much right, and if it dropped to around 100,000, it would look only 1/4 full.
Yeah it moved to nov, the track has been done for over a month now. They are just cleaning up the buildings and crap now... Since the huge rush to be 100% by june was removed.
Coming to F1 Austin? Check out SOUL TRACK MIND. at the Continental Club on Thursday the 15th and the Four Seasons on Friday the 16th for the VIP Race Ball.
i doubt it. ive been there every year, and its more like 1/4 or less of the total people that come to watch the indy 500. on the indy 500, its gridlock after the race ends from all the cars leaving... formula 1 theres not even any traffic jams on georgetown.
Only problem I have with how this has been planned is that they're racing in the wrong direction. Unless they can make that first corner work as well as Eau Rouge, then I think they should instead finish by flying down that hill.
pitlane and other stuff do not meet the recommended standards. atleast i think. and i also think that the steep chicane can not or almost not be taken with an f1 car.
i agree...but since they moved to texas, they might be a little better off. Its much closer to mexico and central and southern america. They appreciate F1 more than most americans. It wont be hard to beat , seeing as how so SO FEW people went to the f1 races held at IMS
TBH, This circuit has a very very odd shape... I dont know if im gonna fall in love with this circuit in November. At least i wont love this track like i love Singapore and Spa!
The only place they should race is at Road America, that place would be absolutely ideal as a track. Then again I don't want them to ruin it so I'll go to Texas.
"100% confident actually that we'll be racing in june of 2012" yeah he lied about that. F1 is going to hate this race because of all the lies the developers have told them. This is going to be a 1 and done race
Indy F1 was doomed to fail from the start. The track layout was contrived and short, and the event was never properly promoted. The Michelin debacle in '05 certainly didn't help matters. Another negative was T.G. I get good vibes from the Austin event, though. I think it will be successful for quite some time. In fact, I think Americans will get more of a kick out of the V8 Supercars and Moto GP than F1!
i give the track 3 years before the new bride smell wears off. i've seen how the yuppy's that make up the vast majority of F1 fans and teams act. They gave up on INDY. one of if not THE most famous track on the planet. a track that is used to putting on big shows. now they're going to Elroy? 2 words for you Elroy.... TRAFFIC NIGHTMARE! that being said i PRAY that F1 and it's fans make this track work. i hope in 4 years from now that i can come back and say "ok i was wrong, sorry."
too bad IMS doesnt release atendance figures, all i know is that compared to the indy 500 the F1 races were EMPTY.. i should know, as i use my front yard as parking lot, indy 500 i always make more than $200, ive never made any money off the f1 races
so there also a new jersey in 2014,,, how many f1 races in USA? haha,,,, too greedy as other countries only have 1..... unless they rotate the races each year in the USA
It will never happen. Two reasons for that. Half the track is too narrow, and secondly the cars are not build to handle turns like the corkscrew :) It's one of my favorite tracks when it comes to GT racing though :)

You are right. The 2013 GP of America is scheduled for Weehawken, NJ. The road course is next to the Hudson River.
Slightly off target, we landed at Weehawken, New Jersey. Not too bad though, we've actually got a nice view of midtown Manhattan, and run through the Hudson River Palisades, giving it a nice Monegesque feel.
there was an announcement months ago that a street circuit will be built for 2013 just outside Manhattan for F1
Actually, its in New Jersey with a New York city backdrop and it doesnt look like it will be ready. After the Montreal race, Vettle and Coulthard did some promotional stuff in NJ and Coulthard said that it looks like there's too much work to be done preparing the circuit because the roads were old and bowed in the middle. wow looking foorwood to seeing texus americas tonight

No doubt it is an amazing track when you see it in person.
@dukane grandstand weekend could cost from $500-$700... most likely
Awesome! I'm reading about it now!
Circuit of the Americas? Autódromo Juan y Oscar Gálvez in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
It is a hell of a circuit. Being there you can really see just how much they had to hussel to get it done and how much they need to do yet. Aminities are nice but I really don't care that much. grand father indycar? you mean european races between villages when later banned from street they build the first race purpose track: Brooklands wich was the model for the indy 500.
we we passed june 2012 in what in condition is the circuit at the moment
Turn 1 is gonna be a bloody expensive grandstand.
Yeah,my favorite track. Simple layout, great corners, low downforce and carousel/kink combo.how on earth are they neglecting it?
Hope they start doing some track days so I can take my bike .
Moto GP 2013 see if Ben can win something .
It is July 2012, is it open?
i'm so glad i live in austin, what a convenience
great now more people coming to Austin.
I wonder if they are gona have f-22 raptors fly over the circuit before the start lol
Will this still be f1 america gp track? or new jersey?
@Treetop64 your right i got hooked watching the v8s its what nascar should be check it out on you tube when you get a chance
WTH? Where did you get that info from?
IRL, or Indy Cars, race on only 3 ovals and the majority are natural terrain road courses so no need for an oval there. It would be fun to see the IndyCars on the same circuit but Bernie usually forbids it in the contracts.
i think f1 on laguna seca would be sick !! especially the downhill chicane thing !!! :)
yeah, but have you seen a nascar road race, half the race is under safety car
Where the tickets?
Unfortunately, that probably won't happen because this is supposed to be very expensive to get into.
would be awesome if the V8's went their. love that track.
that circuit was awesome, it's a shame that all criteria used to select a track for the schedule breaks down only to who offers the most cash to Bernie, because if it was for racing and track qualities, Argentina would easily make to cut to be at the f1 schedule every season
hockenheim screenshot for cota??
If you saw this place in person you would have a different opinion. COTA is a marvel.
Spain has 2, and for a while both Germany and Italy had 2 as well.
i would love to be an American F1 racer.. how do i go about doing that. i mean ive done some research, but im in school now. any pointers or advice?
+Lyness Rogers You've gotta start alot younger than you are right now unfortunately. Lewis Hamilton was already scouted by McClaren as a pre-teen if I remember right. He was racing go-carts before he was 10.

Imagine how many Perez, Maldonado fans will come to Texas.
Yeah it moved to nov, the track has been done for over a month now.
They are just cleaning up the buildings and crap now...

Coming to F1 Austin? Check out SOUL TRACK MIND. at the Continental Club on Thursday the 15th and the Four Seasons on Friday the 16th for the VIP Race Ball.
but i thought it was in NJ not NY
@TheNation6 SO?

Amazing track though.

i doubt it. ive been there every year, and its more like 1/4 or less of the total people that come to watch the indy 500. on the indy 500, its gridlock after the race ends from all the cars leaving... formula 1 theres not even any traffic jams on georgetown.
GP in manhanttan N.Y would be nice!
This year, Austin will be the USGP. Next year, Austin will still be the USGP, but the NJ track will be called the Grand Prix of America.
And the thumbnail is Hockenheim.
beautiful track :)
F1 this week
Go Lotus :)
heat? how about the heat at sepang grand prix then?
Only problem I have with how this has been planned is that they're racing in the wrong direction. Unless they can make that first corner work as well as Eau Rouge, then I think they should instead finish by flying down that hill.
pitlane and other stuff do not meet the recommended standards. atleast i think. and i also think that the steep chicane can not or almost not be taken with an f1 car.
Laguna seca is such a short track. It would only take f1 cars around in 50 seconds
June of 2012, few months late
LOL! Every team would have to replace the front wing of both cars after each lap!
Ah, now I see what you're getting at :)
details.. details.
Close enough.
First corner is a delight! ...but near the end of it the circuit gives impressions of Korean track which is not so great
only 41 people are going to the U.S. Grand Prix!
dang now u gotta rant on they beer lol. thats one thing you are never supposed to do
Texas
i agree...but since they moved to texas, they might be a little better off. Its much closer to mexico and central and southern america. They appreciate F1 more than most americans. It wont be hard to beat , seeing as how so SO FEW people went to the f1 races held at IMS
@TheBelgiumManiac There is the Izod indycar series which personally I like a lot better...
I fucking wish i was, all well i can watch TV for once in real time for once
Anyone else going to the 1st race?
Im so going to go i live 10 minutes away
KEEP AUSTIN WEIRD
I will be the next best american f1 driver in history.
TBH, This circuit has a very very odd shape... I dont know if im gonna fall in love with this circuit in November. At least i wont love this track like i love Singapore and Spa!
they need to come back to indy :(
The only place they should race is at Road America, that place would be absolutely ideal as a track. Then again I don't want them to ruin it so I'll go to Texas.
"100% confident actually that we'll be racing in june of 2012" yeah he lied about that. F1 is going to hate this race because of all the lies the developers have told them. This is going to be a 1 and done race
Lol yea. people get NJ and NY confused alot.
you already have the Daytona 500
I think if F1 can't work at IMS it can't work anywhere
Why couldn't they build a circuit that was totally original not based of 3 other circuit.
Aint in New Jersey not New York.
grand father:indy car
father:f1 ::::::father:nascar
son:gp2::::::::son:arca
Fuck, i live in Washington.
only 19 people? lol
fuck tilke.. omg.. can someone else please design the tracks??
Indy F1 was doomed to fail from the start. The track layout was contrived and short, and the event was never properly promoted. The Michelin debacle in '05 certainly didn't help matters. Another negative was T.G.

u must be an investigator! Lol
lol, funny that your exact dream is coming true
i give the track 3 years before the new bride smell wears off. i've seen how the yuppy's that make up the vast majority of F1 fans and teams act. that being said i PRAY that F1 and it's fans make this track work. i hope in 4 years from now that i can come back and say "ok i was wrong, sorry."
@YukiNekoPrincess That would just ruin the track.
too bad IMS doesnt release atendance figures, all i know is that compared to the indy 500 the F1 races were EMPTY.. i should know, as i use my front yard as parking lot, indy 500 i always make more than $200, ive never made any money off the f1 races

The V8's will be better imo
i have complains about this circuit
It will never happen. Two reasons for that. Half the track is too narrow, and secondly the cars are not build to handle turns like the corkscrew :)
It's one of my favorite tracks when it comes to GT racing though :)
Did they really have to call it Circuit of the yankees? What's wrong with Circuit of Texas?
brazilian gp is the best
On his terrible bike?
so glad we dont have to use a stupid oval anymore and have to share something with dumb nascar.
lol
