He should have won in 2018, Dunkirk is in my opinion a much better movie than "The Shape of Water". But 2011 is more tricky, because he was up against "The Fighter", "The Social Network" and "Black Swan", which are all great films. But the real travesty was that he wasn't nominated for best director for Inception, that is just nuts, because only Nolan could have pulled off that movie. Anyways, i think it's going to change now, Oppenheimer is widely considered by most as his defining masterpiece.
He's one of my favourites, but sayin he's the best in this era "easily" is crazy. Denis Villenueve, Bong Joon-ho, and David Fincher, all continue to put out genre defining work. I could name more but those 4 all make tonally similar movies of an extremely high quality.

Even Dark Knight was nominated for eight Academy Awards categories, but only won two, which is lame. How Slumdog Millionare won for best picture and direction just shows how bad the judging criteria is... I don't have anything against people liking that movie, but it's nowhere a masterpiece in comparison with The Dark Knight. There have been other cases as well. But the Academy Awards have lost credibility several decades ago. Never understood why movies that are revolutionary and make cinema evolve never gets favored, which Nolan keeps doing in different ways every single time. And I can't wait to see Napoleon on IMAX as well. It's made for Apple TV, but I certainly hope that they show it on the big screen.

Oppenheimer the movie is a total flop! The incessant, frenetic, LOUD music overwhelms the moviegoer. One literally cannot hear the dialogue due to volume. I am a scientist and agree the historical aspect was spot on, yet I walked after 2 1/2 hour.

There's not a moment in the movie where there is no music in the background and there is no time for characters to develop since every scene jumps to the next before any character truly warms up. It's certainly not a boring movie, but it feels like an MTV video, like most of his movies.
Hollywood deserves it very much, for betting on violence, terror, blood, dark humor, sex, vices and tragedy😑🤨👍‼️ I would like the same thing to happen to anime and manga companies in Japan for the same thing🤨‼️

I’m too used to the fake stuff like Batman, Inception, and Tenet and prestige and interstellar. What’s funny or sad to me is that you will agree that the two movies Dunkirk and Oppenheimer are the most boring but ask the tarantinos of the world, they will tell you that is his best work. I totally get your disappointment, but if you can put yourself in the shoes of the people involved in that moment, it feels that it is one of the best movies ever made.
