From someone with 1300 games in the mig23ML here’s what I learned, my entire grind for the mig29 I used the r24T’s and they were amazing and oddly reliable for a heat seeker I would shoot them side aspect at targets usually at the beginning of a game within 7km (if they seemed to be closing quick otherwise 5km and less is your safest bet) within 2km rear aspect they seem very flare resistant almost unflarable and with the r60m’s I’d use a lot in headons (if we’re both supersonic about 1.4km or if you’re extra risky but want an ensured missile kill 1km this is if they don’t preflare of course but if you’re gonna shoot a missile at 1km just use your gun tbh) but they can be used within 1.7km rear aspect safely on a fast target if you’re also fast but side aspect at a good angle with them coming towards you about 2.5km and by then it will also stop smoking so they won’t see it if they don’t flare it away in the first place your airframe is pretty weak compared to your engine power wingrip at sea level is about Mach 1.19-1.20 so you will be faster than pesky f14’s and phantoms and they’re really hot so your heatseekers especially the r24T will ignore flares but r24R is pretty ok 24g overload limit and depending on altitude and speed can be used within 10km easily at altitude if you’re fast but on sea level about 8km is as much as I’d go (front aspect) you can argue they’re more reliable than the T because they can’t just be flared away and I will use them if I have a booster but I didn’t even use the R’s until after I got the mig29 but they seem more reliable recently
@@RT42069 I don’t doubt it I’ve had a 7km kill with an aim9L but I was doing Mach 1.4 at a pretty decent altitude and he was lowkey stalled in a dogfight with someone else it just shows that if you’re at altitude and fast missiles have a lot more range I’m just not trying to give people the wrong idea because that 20 mile kill is only ever gonna happen with the r24R if you’re going fast af and high af which you’re not gonna be going high if you wanna live in top tier typically
would love to see a comprehensive guide on the Mig-23. Just recently got it with a buddy and we've been having a lot of fun taking it into matches and 1v1ing each other in the merg. Still new to top tier so we get fragged a lot, but we get lucky sometimes. would love to see what i'm doing right / what I could improve on.
MiG-23ML is so good, it is one of my highest K/D planes. The R-24R's are way better than sparrows and have inertial guidance. And it seems like the MTI mode on the radar is harder to notch than the PD mode on other radars. Very good in the meta to just get 2 quick free kills with the radar missiles and then out run everyone and become more of a support fighter. Not great in dogfights, but dogfights don't happen too often anyway.
wdym what else are u going to buy to grind? su-39 is good if you're serial-bombing but then you won't learn top tier properly. mig-23ML is essentially the same as a mig-23MLD, which is currently the third best fighter plane in the Russian tech tree. Why wouldn't it be a good premium to buy to grind with? (source: I have 3/5 Russian aviation tech trees fully unlocked and I'm using premiums to farm the rest of the lower tier planes. MiG-23ML is my first pick - 2 decent SARs and 4 R60M's - currently no better premium.)
@@youranretart if you need a premium, get the SU-25K or MIG-21S and then grind rank 8 wifh tech tree jets or with your rank 6 premium with 50% reduced research(which gets cancelled out more or less by the premium bonuses). Currently rank 7 premiums aren:t realy worth it because they can only unlock 1-3 additional aircraft per tech tree anyway. Source: I have all of the U.S. and almost all german air tree unlocked and I bought the MIG-21 SPS-K, Harrier GR.1, A-5C and israeli A-4E.
There is a guide to show how to flare 9M and 73. They really aren’t to bad once you get use to your engagements with them you just have to know your plane and know how to play your cards against the f16c and mig 29SMT. I grinded just fine in the ML at 11.3.
I can't wait to unlock the 24s in my German Mig23 MLA. I've been suffering a lot with the stock grind since I don't really have an aswner to head ons other than the gun. And by some reason I can't hit anything with it and when I do it's almost never a crit. That's very weird since It's the same gun in the Mig21 and in that plane it feels really good. I don't know if 10.3 jets are less sturdy or if the mig23 has some kind of accuracy debuff (shots seems to go everywere, while they do go on a straight line in the 21).
I truly recommend you to get the ML I grinded the whole ussr tech tree from 0 just with that plane it took me no time to get to the mig29 as it came out
I personally recommend doing what I did and talisman the MLD/MLA. That’s how I got the mig 29 in a day with the added benefit of not having to pay 70 dollars for a plane I already owned for free.

your comment about farmers getting a matchmaking for RP and SL is a dream i would want happen. But unfortunately that would ruin matchmaking entirely as everyone stops playing just to farm non stop. Of course this wouldnt be an issue should farming not take an average player 1 month to unlock a single top tier vehicle no premium. I hope this attilla updates RP changes actual fixes the abysmally long grinds atleast a bit, shave off a few weeks off for a top tier vehicle research.

MiG-23ML pro tip: Use the R24Ts as funny stealth missiles on sim maps. Most players never even see them and they are unbelievably good. Shooting them up into orbit at space climbers is my favorite thing to do with them. I have gotten so many free kills with them it's insane.
@RT42069 notch early game and climb, most players are using PDV HDN or PD in general and can easily be notched, and if they switch to SRC just flare and turn slightly cold and you'll defeat the radar

Very subjective question and the answer differs per person. Any of those are good as is the Mig-23 or Mig-21S but it will come down to your playstyle preference (enjoyment), and skill. Experiment to learn which style fits you best.
You’re right about the plane but wrong about how to use it… Play the mig in Sim battles, you can choose your brs you face ( 11.3 jets max or 12.0 max) and you get a lot more kills and a lot more rp, plus a lot of sl. Also choose the small sim maps like Tunisia or Port Moresby instead of the big ones and use whatever missile you want. I made 250k sl and 90k rp in 1 hour with no boosters

you gottaa use the IRST for the r-60m's, trust me it makes a big difference on the lock range all aspect and the quality of the lock (more flare resistant)

I own the Mig 23ML and it sucks, and no, its not skill issue. I played top tier in mostly every nation but, this one plainly sucks, especially at 12.0 (every game). What I hate about it, is its very flare hungry missles, every single one, including the radar missles. When I want to research the Russian tech tree I just cringe knowing that ill have to suffer with this thing. I've watched hundreds of guides for the Mig 23ML but all of them don't even help at all.
After switching from the Mig21Bis i find the 23MLD to be a massive struggle. The plane flies like an absolute boat (so it's way harder to get gun kills with it), much harder to flare off missiles in it as well, R60Ms are just as useless as ever. The only good thing are the 2 R-24Rs but since it's a 100% uptier to 12.0 and 12.3 it's not that much..
@@nero9974 The R-73 is flarable at least... the AIM-9M can be flared too, but you have to waste several countermeasures, or energy to complete the evasive maneuvers, which will put you in a weak spot. Oh yeah, it's also smokeless, so if you see a diamond in your proximity and no smoke you either don't flare and take a gamble or waste flares.
the mig 23 is not to be used at low alt go to 5-6k alt and go mach 1.6 nobody can catch you niether can most missiles, you just need to learn how to notch. then you can have a fun experience and and get funny kills

yeah I started using R27T's and R27ER's in my Yak-141. Nobody expects you to be carrying both IR and SAR missiles.

Correct me if im wrong, the 23ml's thermal imaging doesnt alert people when its locked, right? If so that gives the r-24t a big advantage.

thats not how it works, both the IRST and Radar dont affect the missile after launch, they only tell the seeker where to look before launching
IRST doesn't affect tracking or range at all, it just tells the seeker where to look.
r24t was patched to be better than the r27t for premium survival reasons :D
Or you could grind the tech tree normally like a true gamer
