- Grand Theft Auto 5's Mount Chiliad has been a mysterious location since the game's launch in 2013. However, over the years the mystery of Mount Chiliad has only expanded and gotten bigger with new discoveries and updates by Rockstar Games. Today, the Mount Chiliad Mystery continues to puzzle players and has even worked its was into Red Dead Redemption 2. Recent months have seen new theories emerge and the community has made some of the most startling discoveries yet. Thus, today we'll be talking about the never-ending Mystery of Grand Theft Auto 5's Mount Chiliad.

This was a bit of a side project that took a tiny tad longer than expected to finish (oof). Next video will probably be Skyrim (or maybe Fallout 4).
Some Notes -
A huge shoutout it owed to r/chiliadmystery, the Subreddit where most of the community had congregated to investigate. If you’re interested, I highly encourage you check it out to learn more. They have some great resources for beginners!
Game file gurus also did incredible work thus far and are responsible for the majority of our recent discoveries, give their RUclips channel a subscription and website a peek as they’ll surely be the first folks with any updates.
I was unable to fit every single Chiliad-related secret/theory/mystery into this video. We left out a bit such as the Infinite 8 man, the Ghost of Vinewood, etc. This video will however fill you in on all the basics and our most recent finds!

The third UFO has the same cockpit as the B2 stealth bomber so my guess is its the military version. Also never played GTA so I'm just guessing.

There are different estimates to how big Big Smoke's order truly was. A video states that everything Big Smoke ordered would total up to 7540 calories, but competitive eater Matt Stonie ordered something similar and it added up to 9050 calories

It was such a good move by whoever decided to add it and sparked much, much more interest in the community and pushed the timeline for new discoveries even sooner than if that *one* line of code hadn't been there.

Something I noticed that you haven't (yet at least, I'm not all the way through the video) commented on, is the similarities of the (2) Bigfoot Hunters in the two games. Same animal-skin hat, same greying matted beard, same damaged eye... It's almost like "been hunting that beast longer than you'll ever know" is a reference to his appearance in RDR (set in 1911).
I don't know how that would be possible though, I see the resemblance and you'd be a fool to say they aren't the same person but how could he have lived that long? Also, we kill all the sasquatches, the last one said he was the last of his kind. However, it would make sense that he would keep hunting for more because of 'The Beasts' howling and him mistaking it for sasquatch.
While writing this reply I did just realize that the two universes could be separate universes just with similar features like it was mentioned in the video. This could mean that both hunters are parallel versions of each other but the hunter in GTA was born way after the parallel events of RDR and he didn't have John to help kill the sasquatches therefore they're still out there and being studied by the government inside Mount Chiliad. The GTA 5 universe could be a result of what would've happened if the sasquatch species wasn't wiped out.

The “weird accent” Francis Sinclair uses is called Transatlantic. It was an artificial accent created in the early days of radio to get around technical issues with early recording. The accent was taught in acting and upper-class boarding schools during the early 20th century before falling out of use after WWII.

I think the reason Los Santos is called Los Santos and Liberty City is called Liberty City is because Francis Sinclair meddled with the timeline, thus creating a alternate reality where California and New York are called something else.
If your doing a Rocketeer reference it was Neville Sinclair, that crashed into the HollyWoodLand and destroyed the land part.

Honestly I think it was just meant to hint at the singleplayer DLC they were going to do and get people really into the mystery so that when they released the DLC people would be talking about it all over, but then since they scrapped the singleplayer DLC it just never got fulfilled, at least however they originally planned

This is extra funny to me when taking into account that the most likely actual solution to the Chilliad mystery that I’ve seen is that the jetpack represents Trevor due to his craziness, the UFO represents Michael due to the weird shit he was into (epsilon and his alien encounter), and the egg represents Franklin due to him being new to the heisting life, and the boxes and lines connecting everything represented missions. The mystery of mount chiliad really was the friends we made along the way

I just watched an hour long documentary of a fictional mountain on a game that I hardly play and I loved every damn second of it. Well done.
Love the attention to detail by Rockstar with Francis, giving him a Transatlantic accent which was big in the 1920s, and dressed him authentic to that era, makes sense considering he was born in 1899.

been part of r/chiliadmystery from the beginning, couple big things missed:
- The Zancudo UFO does indeed have human markings, the phrase "scramble and rearrange"
- The Altruists, and their strange religion that also seems to worship an alien named Zaphos, and have similar glyphs around their base
- Rockstar gave a second hint after "He was wrong to start his hunt on a Tuesday", replacing that line with "His quarry seemed familiar"
- The UV map given out with the original special edition of the game, when held under a blacklight shows a few alien related things
- The painting of the giant alien features the same doors found inside the cable car station
- Beach Bum DLC painted vans, depicting things like the sunken UFO and Big Foot
- Related to above, a couple mentions of the UFO underwater possibly lighting up
- The Space Docker, the endless usage of it in the early mystery days, it's graffiti, its 'rare horn', it being powered by alien tech
- The cut/lost/locked dialogue Trevor has with the Altruists were they appear to initiate him and reward him with something
- The 'Cracked Egg' image hidden in the maze bank fountain that looks identical to the cracked egg in the mural
- The "Black Cell Phones" cheat
- The Lady Nazar connections, her cross referencing both universe, and the strange number you can unlock and call her at
- Francis Sinclair is wearing Epsilon colors
- The next-gen version advertisement "White Picket Fence" focused on creepier, mystery hinting things.
- The next-gen artwork with the woman's tattoo "Upward Flows The Truth Forms"
- The mountain glyphs light up as the first bit of lunar light touches them
- The sand glyphs
- The Zancudo Bunker, and the green alien hologram/light that appears above it
- The "Sinner's Passage Mural" and its clear hinting at a mystery
- The Diamond Heist update that included artwork "Peyote Party" that featured the Chiliad Mural and Bigfoot
- The DIamond Heist Artwork that included ALL the easter eggs playing roulette
- The office artwork you can buy, which was a 2D image of Micheal looking at the blank square above his kitchen stove, except a picture of the Lighthouse was there
- The 'Drunk Dev' and his 'Clews' post early on -- in which much later, some claimed things were proven correct
- The unusually-detailed-yet-not-real-world-accurate Lunar cycle
its all i can remember off the top of my head. spent a lot of time on this mystery and there is definitely enough for a 2nd hour of video lol
This may just be me, but the Zancudo UFO's cockpit resembles a B-2 Spirit cockpit, which is definitely not extraterrestrial in origin.
Also, the full story for the Single Player DLCs:
Around early 2017, dataminers had discovered evidence of in-game menu options for three DLC slots, each titled "SPAlien" "SPZombie" and "SPAgent". The major speculation of GTA:O started making SO much money, and that the SP DLCs were cancelled in favor of more MP DLCs, is only partially true.
Another major factor was that GTA5 development was split, with Leslie Benzies leading the direction of SP content, and the Hauser Bros. leading the direction of MP content. But, as it is well known by now, some internal company turmoil led to Benzies stepping away from Rockstar shortly after GTA 5's release.
Shortly after this DLC evidence was datamined, buzz on GTAForums (where actual Devs are known to hang out) discussing the planned content for these DLCs started happening. According to some of these accounts (who were devs or very close to devs) a leaked document was being passed among them detailing the content of these DLCs specifically:
-"SPALIEN" was to have Micheal getting involved in an FIB conspiracy about Aliens, who were stationed in Chiliad. The climax of the DLC would have involved a full-on Alien Invasion of Los Santos, and Mount Chiliad being blown up into a giant crater.
-"SPZOMBIE" Involved Franklin and Lamar getting themselves caught up in a Zombie apocolypse, and revolved around many of their associates. It was not only to draw inspiration from Undead Nightmare, but also early Romero films.
-"SPAGENT" was a more serious plot involving Trevor being recruited as a pilot and eventual agent for the IAA.
While "SPALIEN" and "SPZOMBIE" were meant to be "What if?" branch-offs from the main story much like Undead Nightmare was, "SPAGENT" was actually meant to be an add-on to the "Option C: Deathwish" ending. Also, all three DLCs would have brought changes to the overall map, major changes in the case of SPALIENS and SPZOMBIE. They would have also had associated multiplayer modes.
An interesting bit of evidence for the existence of these DLCs, and the fact they were retooled for GTA:O later on in development are some of the in-game vehicles and properties that started showing up in later updates for GTA:O.
For example, there are multiple "Dawn of the Dead" style anti-zombie-spiked-and-barbed vehicles, despite there not being any modes, events, jobs or NPCs associated with such style.
Much of the purchasable Bunkers, as well as the Doomsday Heist Chiliad Interior, were culled from "SPALIENS" original giant Chiliad interior, as were Laser weapons, and futuristic vehicles like the Deluxo or Oppressor bikes, all which would have been featured.
And it can even be argued, many of the high-end military vehicles and planes and choppers would have been featured in "SPAGENT", but in this case its harder to tell as lots of these could have shown up regardless.
Anyways, this all gives a bit of extra speculation on the Chiliad Mural itself; was it a leftover asset from Benzie's now-scrapped plans? Was it a tease to the plot of "SPALIENS"? Or is there still a full, intact mystery to decipher from it? Or will future GTA:O content being retooled from the SP DLCs give meaning to it?

@juliangpu The finale of the first dose concludes at the power station after derailing the train. Green chemicals leak out and will actually cause damage to a player in the vicinity. Essentially, the missions foreshadow/give hints as to what we need to do to unlock the mystery. (People, places, companies, certain actions, lines of dialogue, etc.) So do most, if not all, of the missions and heists in online. There's clues hidden in clothing items, names of cars, businesses, logos, tattoos, everything.

So, it's a fact it was going to be an awesome Undead Nightmare-like DLC but it got canceled thanks to GTA Online. At the end, the monetary success was nice for Rockstar but we lost the biggest mystery in videogames thus far. Sad, yet I would be lying if I say I didn't enjoy Doomsday Heist with a friend. Still, they could have added zombies in multiplayer. It would be LEGENDARY. Sadly, if online players turn into a bunch of crybabies just with the snow added during winter, they would suicide with zombies and aliens in the entire map even if it's just during a mission.

So basically, Rockstar forgot to remove the mural at Mt Chiliad prior to release as the related content was cut. That content was replaced by a UFO sighting and the Bigfoot mission. Then like 5 years later they released some GTA Online content that ties back to the old mural as some closure for fans that beat their head against the wall for years with nothing to show for it.

I remember talking about how Rockstar loves to drum up this kind of stuff over 10 years ago on GTA forums discussing Bigfoot and such.
It’s easy for them to throw out some scraps here and there to keep interest high and give youtubers content fodder that serve as ads for the game.
Even still, I like that there is a touch of the esoteric in Rockstar’s games, regardless of the motive. The real world is full of interactions that are difficult or impossible to explain with a high degree of certainty.
Considering there were 7 sasquatch in the RDR DLC, maybe each golden cactus is a nod to each one that there was, the 6 that were killed and then the final one, like a cycle repeating itself.

Anyone catch the 2021 Halloween event? There were tons of UFOs around at different parts of the city. They were just hovering with a spot light shining down. Didn't take damage, and wouldnt interact in any way with the environment except made the radios fuzz out. It was super cool. Makes me hope they'll continue this story after all this time!

In the 2022 Halloween event I went underneath one on foot. I was abducted, left in boxers and a bra, and guess where I was? Mount chilliad. Everytime I tried to get off the mountain, communication would be cut. (Couldn’t call mechanic to get a car cause no roads nearby, merry weather couldn’t get a helicopter to me for some reason.)

Theory- GTA and rdr2 have multiple divergence points of our own time. Some time between rdr2 and GTA San Andreas, California was Changed to San Andreas, presumably after the flood. you can spot on the different maps in barber shops and whatnot. in rdr2, a small strip of the country was made into lemoyone, new Hanover, west Elizabeth and new Austin. This change was most likely made during the civil war, due to some major event that happened. The flood most likely happened around the Early 2000s, due to how people have adapted. Many states are renamed due to them most likely being broken up, and life goes on as normal.
The Midwest is where Michael did his bank robberies, it's not flooded, the reason San Andreas is an island is because of game limitations back in 2013. GTA and red dead take place in the same timeline, only swapping names with parodies when necessary to avoid lawsuits. Examples include Niko Bellic referencing Florida in GTA 4 and mentions of New York in Red Dead. It's our timeline, just a little more violent.

Hey well the ceo gets money out of the new versions and players get an interesting mystery to investigate that sounds like a win-win to me.
If you lay the Mount Chiliad drawing on top of the GTA map, it somewhat lines up with the things you can find around San Andreas. The large eye or ufo on the top of the drawing is located around where the sunken ufo is, one of the Xs are around the Fort Zancudo ufo, another X is near the Sandy Shores ufo, another X is close to the missile base entrance, and the box on the top of the drawing, below the ufo/eye is where the ufo on top of the mountain appears. It might just be a coincidence, but knowing Rockstar, it’s highly probable that it isn’t. If it is true, then it means that the secrets at the locations of the two remaining Xs have not been found yet.
Another thing to mention is that the Fort Zancudo ufo does actually have markings on it, as the words “segregate and rearrange” are written on the side. “Segregate”, unscrambled, spells out “easter egg”. Also, the ufo has a cockpit with two dark figures piloting it, although these pilot models are likely just place holders.

TBH i think it is a wink from the devs at our real life Area 51 and other secret bases like that who have been experimenting with electromagnetic drive vehicles since the 50s. Both types of UFOs in GTA look very "human tech" and not "alien tech" in appearance. The black one is a jab at the SR-71 high altitude spy plane which was unknown until the 90s. Who knows how many operations it did spying on the Soviets in the Cold War era. The cockpit looks very similar to the SR-71 Blackbird's.
