I have a 35w 8000k HID in projectors and not reflectors due to incorrect beam pattern and dazzling other people! I absolutely love them!

Word to the wise: ONLY use HID lights with projector type headlight assemblies. If you use these in assemblies designed for Halogen bulbs, you will blind other drivers making it extremely unsafe! This is due to the geometry of the assemblies and how the light bounces of them.
5000k is closer to pure white, 6000k is getting into the bluish category, or "bright white".
Yep idiots donl it all the time one day someone will crash into them.

Just to chime in here since I have recently been looking at replacing my stock HID projector headlight bulbs in my 2004 Lexus RX330 and doing a TON of research in the process, too many people are concerned with the color temp, and should be more concerned about the lumens (actual light output). Unless you are doing a show car and going for purely esthetics, you want to gain as much ROAD illumination as possible. Many people think that the higher the color temp the more light output. This is a big misconception. The higher the lumens, the more output. The higher the color temp, the lower the lumens. Optimal road illumination for low beam headlights is between 4300k and 5000k (3200 to 3400 lumens). 3500k = 3600 lumens, 6000k = 2900 lumens, 8000k = 2500 lumens, and 12000k = 2000 lumens. Most states have anything above 10000k set in the books as illegal because the light output is so small, it is dangerous due to insufficient road illumination. You might as well just drive with your lights completely off (and my personal opinion - the purple light looks idiotic as all H311 on a non-show car). Yellow fog lights are legal in all 50 US states, but each state may have detailed restrictions on HID vs. halogen fog lights (how yellow they can be). The catch is they MUST be BELOW the main headlights, and can not be used in the main headlight housing for your low beams. This is for street legal vehicles of course. The wavelength of the 3500k light allows for the light to penetrate fog (water particles suspended in air), unlike higher color temp bulbs where the light just reflects back to you off of the fog, hindering your sight even more. Many new vehicles come with yellow fog lights stock from the factory. Also, most states have made it illegal for aftermarket HIDs, although not all states enforce it (from-the-factory or OEM HIDs are 100% legal in all US states). They were primarily designed for off-roading. If you are vehemently worried about legality and getting in trouble, if your vehicle has reflector headlights, it is illegal to have HIDs in them PERIOD (even with the fake and crappy functioning bulbs that have the cutoff band around them. Tried them once and they suck!). Spend the extra $ for a projector retrofit kit for your headlight housing. Other drivers will thank you and it may just save someone's life. I flash on average about 6 people a day coming home in the evening from work. Half of them are using HIDs in reflector housings. The rest seem to think that it is ok to drive around the city with their high beams on. So, for me, I am going to go with the 5000K. I want the crisp white light with no yellowish tint, and I also get the best lumens for low beams. Oh, and stay away from the cheap eBay junk. Go with Sylvania or Philips brands. All the other brands out there are cheap China knockoff junk and don't always meet the stated specs. Not to mention they don't last nearly as long. Yes, you may be paying $50 or more per bulb (not per pair but PER BULB), but it is well worth the $. There are several sites out on the net that show you how to spot fake HID bulbs.

@ MATT G. Your wrong about running hid lights in a reflective housing. My 2006 infiniti g35 awd sedan came stock with hid bulbs in a reflective housing. They are not projector lenses hid housings either. If u ever bought hid bulbs they will either say D2S D2R or D2C. The D2S hid bulbs are for projector housings and should not be used in a reflective housing or it will blind other drivers. The D2R hid bulbs are to be used in reflective housings and not in the projector housings. The D2C hid are so called universal hid bulbs so they can be use in projector and reflector housings. But the D2C hid most of the time are cheap quality from what I heard. If u want the right hid bulbs for a projector housing buy the D2S kind. If u have the reflective kind buy the D2R kind. Now that doesn't mean any reflective headlight housing can use the D2R hid bulbs. The cars that run the hid bulbs with the reflective housing is designed for those bulbs. It u just take any reflector housing and put either bulbs I stated it might melt ur plastic. Just so u know

me use CNLIGHT 4300k and 5000k on my bike
conclusion :
4300k best for rain and wet road
5000k best for dry road
next wanna try 6000k
Use infared 730nm Cree with 3500k to enhance plant growth on the side if the road not only will this be a greener option you would help save the trees one node at a time
i just got the 6000k installed in my car. because at night time the stock lights that went with the car i couldnt see well at night. so hoepfully its clearer and brighter.

6000K is the prettiest, by far. But in terms of performance, which would you recommend? 4300K or 6000K?
You won't notice the difference between the two... Technically, 4300k performs better, but not enough for your eye to detect. In fact, your eye will probably think the 6000k is a better performing light

Why do i feel that 6000k is brighter than 4300k?? Also, please let me know that after several use, will the bulb intensity diminish? Such as 4300k after several use will look more yellowish or 6000k will look more blueish. Please reply.
you feel it cause our eyes are made to see a range of light radiation, infrared and ultraviolets are the 2 extreme sides. between 4750K and 5800K is the daylight colour, with sun is more yellowish and with clouds is more green-blueish. A good lamp should have 5500 K to be almost at the midrange of daylight colour temperature. most of xenon has between 5000 and 6000K, but based on standard Philips lamps, i prefer 5000K instead 6000K because of better lighting in wet conditions. The changing colour during lifetime, is because they contains xenon, mercury and other metals to give the colour tone. during utilisation these metals react, till they cannot separate more from the mercury, and at last days of duty you will see almost from every lamp only a red purple radiation, this is a sign that the lamp is ready

i was looking at getting 100 watt 6000k hid spotlights what do you think i don't know if it is the best one's to get for my 4wd do a lot of night driving my 35 watt hid lights stopped working and want to upgrade i am not interested in led lights.
+paul water If you're looking for a spot light, something you can turn on and off and don't need for everyday driving, I'd so go with the brightest you possible could. 100w 6000k should be a nice addition to a 4x4!
If these are going in your regular headlights, do not go with 100w.

I wanted white and ended up with light blue. Was even better , street was bright and neon looking. Wish I remember the number. Was years ago. Going for hid again. It's probably 8k. Hid lit the street a mile away. Every street sign glowed..didn't have projector with cut off, know wa mean
i have 12k and startup they go bluish purple and than eventually look white like 6k.could it be ballasts or Because i dont have a relay..when i bought the truck they werent as white
What brand did you put in? It's normal for them to start out SUPER blue/purple and then move closer to white as they heat up.

From a color perspective, 4300k or 6000k is the best. I like 6000k because it gives a very crisp look to the lights.

I´m refering to the xenon bulbs when using 55w ballasts
55w pros: they´re brighter
55w cons: their lifespan is shorter than 35w,
their color fades faster than 35w,
they produce more heat in your light housing.

chris lopez - basically the same thing yosoylavergavoladora said. I don't recommend 55w HIDs because I've had issues with them generating so much heat that wires have melted and housings have melted. I try to stay away from them.

Mauro Diaz I haven't have any issues with my 55 watt kit from Innovited. I use my HID's alot! (5-6 days a week mostly night driving) and they work like a charm. Common problem with HID's in my case is the passenger side never wanting to light up. Had this issue with 35watt also
Doof3rproductions that's not a rule about 55 watt hid... it's a "rare problem", but it happens, about the thing with the passenger side, check the grounding on that side of the vehicle

4300k is what the factory uses...however, because of the factory projectors, I've noticed the color of the 6000k looks more like that of a factory Audi/Mercedes

Technically, 4300k is the closest light to natural daylight, when it comes to HIDs. I usually say;
4300k - Mostly white with a little yellow
6000k - Pure white
8000k - Mostly white with a little blue
10000k - Mostly blue
Because most of AM kit say (so vendors says) : 5000k white - 6000k white with light blue tone - 8000k light blue with some deep blue tone - 10000k deep blue with some purple tone - 12000k purple ...
And some say exactly what you just write. So where is the truth ? i'm pretty lost actually :/

Gotcha. I'm speaking from the experience with my HID kits over the years. Different companies use different components which could change the spectrum of color.
Can you get pulled over for yellow? I want that moreless as my avatar picture shows I'm going to be customizing my GT with either a black or gold primary and the opposite as the secondary. I don't know yet thou...
+BatStang805 The way the law is written is that, exterior, forward facing, lights can only be white or amber. 3000k HIDs are yellow, so technically, they can pull you over for them.
You could always do white low beams and yellow high beams. That way when you're out cruising or at a show, you could have yellow lights on... then for regular driving, you could use your white lights. Let me know if you need any kit recommendations.

What I would love to do is smoke out the rear and front lights to make it murdered, now here is something tricky that I doubt you'll know but I want to make my Mustang much more different then the average... Personally I live in Ventura, California and almost 99.9% of the time the police don't give to hoots if its on high beams or fog (I have pure black window tint on my entire car) which I think is important as more crime is committed elsewhere. I want to add some kind of HID kit that isn't over the top expensive and good quality of course! I have only regular and high beams as I don't have the bumper or Fog light application for my car... The reason I wanted to go with yellow is I want to make my accessories on the exterior and interior golden and the rest will be black, the purpose for this is I am taking a old Mustang look and making it new. Also for the tricky question... Do you know where I might be able to find LED offroad lights that would fit the grill of a Mustang? Reason is that I sometimes go through the Ojai Canyon at night and I want to be able to light it up and at the same time represent something different as I have personally never seen a mustang with LED offroad lights; the only thing is trucks that have applications. Anyways, if you could answer any of those questions that would be seriously useful. I was already told I would need to make a Custom housing unit that could hold that type of lights. I just want something different is all, thanks again!
+HIDLightReviews True, most factory "yellow" fog lights are technically illegal yet they are dot approved. I had a sheriff write me a ticket for actual Amber fog lights and I won in court handily.

+Edgar Baez It's not so much a review as it is a look at the different color HIDs. People who buy 30k HIDs usually purchase for show purposes...not functionality. 30k is so saturated with color, that it's the least efficient HID color you could buy. So, yes... there are probably people who want purple headlights, but if you're installing them on a daily driver, it's not wise. #justsaying

xavierlert by a colour guaranteed 5000k bulb. I would buy OPT7 5000k. Domt buy cheap chinese ones. If you go 8000k ots too blue and certainly not road legal in the U.K.

3000k, 4300k, 6000k, and 8000k came from my inventory. I don't recommend or sell 10k+ so I had to use different brands for those.
+HIDLightReviews nice video ..i recently purchased a pair of replacement bulbs 4300k 55w to replace my 6000k 55w but the 4300k looks more like a bright white (5000k) rather than that of a halogen bulb ...when driving in rain the white light is useless ....my question is ...would the 3000k bulb be a better colour match to that of a halogen bulb 55w.....
+Richard S It sounds like you're trying to achieve a slightly yellow hue to your headlights. If that is the case, you definitely want to go with a 35w 4300k. If you do 3000k, you will have a noticeably yellow light. What is the year/make/model of the vehicle?

I should have elaborated... I had a 55w kit on a Suburban that got too hot and melted the factory wiring. It fried the circuit board and was a nightmare to fix... The little bit of extra brightness has not been enough to make me use 55w again.
