I love your story about the shawl you made for your mom. Thank your for sharing that! I had a similar problem with a purse I crocheted for my daughter. By the time I washed it the strap had doubled in length. Lol perfect if she was 7’ tall.

LOL you have got to be one of the nicest sweetest most talented peopleI have seen on crochet channels. Keep up the lovely work!

These are such important reminders, thank you! I think it’s also important to make mistakes. Like you said, there’s no yarn police- so get in there and mess things up occasionally. The lesson you learn for that project will carry through other projects as well!
Great Information.....I almost feel like you were standing behind me today while I tried to decide on which yarn to make a shawl. Your tips are most helpful and your work is BEAUTIFUL. When I grow up I want to knit like you......BTW I've been crocheting for over 50 years and self taught knitting for about 20....God Bless....and Thanks again.....
I absolutely love your bubbliness! You are a bright light, my friend! You have a beautiful personality and you are awesome! Totally love this shawl! 💕💕

So much I want to knit but can no longer afford it. I want to be able to knit all your shawls and sweaters. They are so beautiful. I wish I could afford.
I'm so sorry to hear that Zinnia. There are always cheaper yarn option available in crafting store or maybe your Local Yarn Store might have more wallet friendly yarns. 💕

It's funny coming across this, now that I am near the end of my first shawl. I actually looked for a pattern to go with the yarn that was requested. Well, this beautiful draping lace shawl is not what I'm getting done. It's still nice but using at least double the amt of yarn (it's a 3 weight - I'm still a newbie!!) And thicker and warmer than I wanted and taking FOREVER to get done!! Hahaha, lots of lessons learned!

Thank you for this! Could you maybe do a video on which types of yarns are better for stitch definition and what to look for in a yarn to show off cables?
Happy Friday everyone! Just sitting here watching Chandi while practicing Tunisian crochet. I really need to work on 1 of the 3 knitting projects I've started. I'm so far behind on my projects.
So this video was very helpful. I used a wool fingerling pure Marino. I used one of your patterns. Adalia, I absolutely love the detail. I got what I thought was enough to do this project 5 @ 100 g, 548 yds, so totally wrong with this choice of material. It doesn’t flow as nice as yours, and another thing wasn’t as long. But you know what? It’s winter here and I absolutely love ❤️ it. I wear it all day, keeps the chill off. So it’s loved as it is. I will make another, but using a lighter weight. God bless
Thank you so much for this information... As a beginner knitter, this is very helpful, and I wonder if you have o can do a video about choosing the right needle for a project... Sending lots of love from Puerto Rico...❤🇵🇷
Happy Friday Chandi, and thank you so much for your wonderful and informative video :) I just found your channel about a week ago and I'm so glad I did ~ I'm learning so much from you :) My Beautiful Lollipop Sugar Swirl Yarn I bought from your website just came today and I absolutely Love It! It's so soft and the colors are just gorgeous ~ thank you so much :) ! I'm not sure if I'll be knitting a project or crocheting a project with it yet ~ I'll make swatches first like your tip you gave us in this video :) Thank you so much again and please keep making your videos for us ~ Happy Knitting and Crocheting :) ❤️
Thank you, this is really helpful. This winter I tried to knit a warm sweater out of really warm wool (100 % wool - a little like shetland wool) , I tried to work cables with it but it was completely hopeless as the wool is the exact opposite of 'flowy'. It looked quite awful in the sample I tried, so I had to choose a different pattern.....
Been making blue hats from my yarn stash for hats not hate. Every weight and fiber content. Had to adjust the pattern depending on the yarn which really helped me learn the differences in yarns and weights and eventual size of the beanie. Actually made the red velvet shawl you showed us how to make but did it in worsted 4 cotton and the pattern shows well but omg it's heavy.
When I first started knitting socks, I had done a few worsted weight slipper socks. I used some 100% cotton yarn. Big mistake! They stretched all out of shape. That's when I learned I needed wool with maybe some nylon for strength. Live and learn.
I was knitting mohair. If your hands are sweaty in a humid climate, the yarn blooms immediately, but if the mohair is knit in other conditions the resulting fabric looks grid like, like preworn out fabric. HOWEVER, wool and mohair will bloom after a first wash and be a different looking fabric. WASHING a swatch will inform you.
Great information My first knitting experience was a shawl. Dear lord, did I struggle. I found out that I'm a very tight knitter, so much so that I could put the thing on it's side and it would stay upright. It was terrible! I'm way happier with crochet
Thanks for the help! I've been wanting to make another of my favorite cardigans (worsed 4 recommended) pattern but use a different weight. I was thinking sport but now I'm nervous lol maybe a dk? 🤔 Right now the cardigan is perfect for winter and not warm weather....
Glad it was helpful. Substituting Worsted for Dk is a lot easier than going down even more. I'd also start with the DK, make a swatch and check, a) how much adjusting needle-wise you have to do and b) if you like the fabric that you get. And then just go from there. 😊 I hope this makes sense. Have a nice day! 💕
Chanti please put your clothes in the description box. There are always comments on your clothes! We all love your look! Thanks for another great video!❤
Funny knitting story time. I learned how to magic loop from your videos (very helpful, thank you!) and I have some friends who have snakes. I joked I'd make them snake sweaters. Problem is I temporarily forgot that diameter and circumference are NOT the same thing, so my first finished magic loop pattern is actually an arm glove for myself, LOL. I did remake everything properly and the snakes have their fuzzy tubes now, but wow. (also, obligatory disclaimer: snakes were tiny, non-venomous, and DEFINITELY not the thickness of my arm!!)
Thank you for sharing. This is so beautiful. I also love the top you are wearing. Any chance of getting you tutorial for this? Blessings and love from France xxx
Thank you for yet another lovely video! Actually, I *Love* the idea of 'Knit & Crochet Police.' Imagine what a Knit & Crochet Police SWAT team would look like. Would they be armed with knitting needles, crochet hooks & aggressive-looking swatch/gauges? No mace, just water-guns for proper blocking?
I love the information you went through today. And I have a question - here in the UK we do not have sport weight yarn. Can I substitute it maybe fingering weight sock yarn?
Chandi thank you for thos video. But I have another question for you. I am very allergic to animal fibers. Which safdens me because I am in love with so many of you yarns. With that be said how would I go about substituting yarn to fit the beautiful patterns you have?
Becky, you can substitute cotton yarns or man-made fibers if you prefer - it will depend on the project you're making. If you want to be able to block your item, use a natural fiber, not acrylic. :)
Thank you! I found them here: www.etsy.com/listing/795870590/3d-watering-can-earrings-gardening?gpla=1&gao=1&&Cj0KCQjwk4yGBhDQARIsACGfAesLKAKmkSLY4M2nKCd7K-o_1uK-nJZofAl4n0SmJCThzV6566U0XFQaAkzkEALw_wcB_k_&:pla-354749636391_m__795870590_113458437&gclid=Cj0KCQjwk4yGBhDQARIsACGfAesLKAKmkSLY4M2nKCd7K-o_1uK-nJZofAl4n0SmJCThzV6566U0XFQaAkzkEALw_wcB
do you have a comparable knit sweater? i am practicing knitting and want to accomplice something besides a simple scarf. usually i crochet, but i love the knit look.
Yes we do! How about our Cumulus tee (www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/cumulus.html), Shala (www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/shala.html), or Hadi (www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/hadi.html)? I hope there is something you like there. Have a nice day! 💕
So useful, I loved it :) I would like to start one of your pattern, "Wonder" ❤️...do you think 80/20 Superwash Merino/Nylon would be still OK? I'm so excited to find everything to start 🥳
It should work! If you have the chance, you can make a gauge swatch and see if you like how it is working up. That will give you a good idea of what you are going to get. Hope this helps!
I was going to substitute cotton for wool, because I am very sensitive to wool. Even though yours are very smooth, I can still feel the wool at 50%. So I guess my first instinct was wrong to substitute for cotton or bamboo. Any idea? Or do you know how I could make wool feel way softer? Your yarns are so beautiful, I would love to wear them Lots of Love Chandi❣️
Hi Valerie, thank you for your comment. I don't know what yarn weight you're looking for but how about something like our Moongleam Fingering which is a 50/50 blend of Cotton and Silk. Even though it has cotton the silk will reduce the stretch quite a bit so it shouldn't grow too much on you. Regarding your second question wool wash and blocking always help to make your knits even softer. I hope these are helpful tips. Have a great day! 💕
Thank you so much for your time, Chandi ❣️ I'll try right now with Moongleam 🤗 OMG, your colorsare absolutely gorgeous 💖 So much beauty, so much creativity... I am really in awe. I'll try of course your tips with the blocking. Never heard about it until I started watching your videos. Thank you also so much for all your so inspiring newsletters and blogs❣️ You're seriously changing my life ☺️
Hello, Valerie, Have you ever tried merino wool? I, too, am very sensitive to wool, but accidentally bought some merino wool sweaters several years ago. Didn't realize what they were until I had worn all four of them and went to wash them! Just a thought... Good luck, and have fun! 🧶
Have you checked out Knit Pic yarn? When I first started knitting I bought at the big box stores. Not much of a selection but I wasn't ready to invest so much money into yarn. I love Chandi's yarn and love knitting with it!🧶🧶🧶
Acrylic yarn can be fuzzy like short fiber spun wool or can be more like silky. You will be looking to get something that makes the fabric stiff enough or drapey (limp) enough to get the desired effect. Learning some math helps too. It helps to not try to modify how you knitting match the gauge of the person who wrote rhe pattern but to use your own natural style gauge to make this many inches or centimeters. Some will modify how they knit and then slip back into how they naturally knit, but this is not a problem if you know you want thus many inches and you know your gauge is this many rows per inch and this many stitches in a row per inch.
Thank you for these videos and the valuable information. You are a hoot to watch 😄
I meant that in the nicest way.
I appreciate that! And you're very welcome!

I love the information you went through today. And I have a question - here in the UK we do not have sport weight yarn. Can I substitute it maybe fingering weight sock yarn?
For many patterns! Just try to get gauge and you’ll be good
@@ExpressionFiberArts thank you!

@@ExpressionFiberArts thank you for your help.
Love your top, yarn a great neutral colour, is this one of your own patterns.
Thank you! It is. It is our Kalaheo top: www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/kalaheo.html

Is your shop open to the public for yarn sales?
Unfortunately, no. We only sell our yarn online at www.expressionfiberarts.com/
do you have a comparable knit sweater? i am practicing knitting and want to accomplice something besides a simple scarf. usually i crochet, but i love the knit look.
@@ExpressionFiberArts thank you! that's true, I will try it out
I was going to substitute cotton for wool, because I am very sensitive to wool. Even though yours are very smooth, I can still feel the wool at 50%.
So I guess my first instinct was wrong to substitute for cotton or bamboo.
Any idea?
Or do you know how I could make wool feel way softer?
Your yarns are so beautiful, I would love to wear them
Lots of Love Chandi❣️
Hi Valerie, thank you for your comment. I don't know what yarn weight you're looking for but how about something like our Moongleam Fingering which is a 50/50 blend of Cotton and Silk. Even though it has cotton the silk will reduce the stretch quite a bit so it shouldn't grow too much on you.
Regarding your second question wool wash and blocking always help to make your knits even softer.
I hope these are helpful tips. Have a great day! 💕
Thank you so much for your time, Chandi ❣️
I'll try right now with Moongleam 🤗
OMG, your colorsare absolutely gorgeous 💖 So much beauty, so much creativity... I am really in awe.
I'll try of course your tips with the blocking. Never heard about it until I started watching your videos.
Thank you also so much for all your so inspiring newsletters and blogs❣️
You're seriously changing my life ☺️
Hello, Valerie,
Have you ever tried merino wool? I, too, am very sensitive to wool, but accidentally bought some merino wool sweaters several years ago. Didn't realize what they were until I had worn all four of them and went to wash them!
Just a thought...
Good luck, and have fun! 🧶
Quick question: what yarns can i substitute with acrylic???
It's lovely. Can you show me the pattern of what you wear on you while you filmed? Its a great crochet pattern i wish to make. Thank you for the info.
Sure! It’s our Kalaheo top found here: www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/kalaheo.html
