  • First off, I’m sorry about the format. I made this for my Instagram(pearl_glide) followers, but I wanted to also share here.
In this video I will be replacing my fuel filter. I noticed my fuel pump was making a lot of noise. HD said nothing was wrong and didn’t not find the solution. Once it became really bad I did some looking and figured I’d try the filter first. Glad I did.
HD claims this fuel filter is good for 100k miles. I only run 91 or higher and only have 30k miles. This thing was dirty and causing my pump to work overtime.
Yes, I have ran it pretty dry on some of our desert runs where we didn’t have any gas stations.
I would suggest changing this every 25-30k miles. Its only $15-$30 bucks and simpler to replace.

Any time you do maintenance that requires you to purge the fuel line, cycle the fuel pump/kill switch a few times before you start it. That will get the air out of the fuel line and it won’t die on you.

Interesting. Last year in September I had that exact same sound. Thought it was the fuel pump just like you. Harley had it for over a day and they claimed that they did not hear anything. The sound did go away on its own. I will have to get my fuel filter replaced. Thanks

    • @getlarsonlost

Yeah mine went away for awhile too. Came back when we didn’t another long trip. I don’t think Harley even thinks bout the filter. I was told nothing wrong 2 times. When I mentioned fuel pump, They told me it would cost of $500 or so to replace. It was super simple and 20 bucks to replace filter on my own.

I don't have all of that mess on mine. Mine has an Evo. Keep the oil level correct and run it a few million miles. I could rebuild the engine and carb on the side of the road with the toolkit if I absolutely had to. I don't want fuel-injection on anything I'm not racing. I prefer the reliability of the mechanical systems. Good luck with that shiny, new Harley!

Just keep oil level correct and you get a few million miles on your evo huh?

@@jayonez137 It's been done. Mine is a 91 and has zero issues at 150k. Remember, I don't need anything special to work on this bike. No diagnostic software. No specialized tools. Nothing. Don't believe me? Study Harley's past, the deal they made with the US government, and how the Evo saved them.

      Lol
I’ve been riding for 40+ years.
At one time I’ve owned almost every motor HD made.
      Including the slow EVO.
Believe me, I know they’re easy to work on, and it probably has been done but you’re not rebuilding your motor on the side of the highway so stop with that already. We all know that’s exactly what every Evo owner says. And yes, they are much easier to work on then the twin cam or the M8. I agree with you there.
My 14’ 103 twin cam SG has over 100K without 1 hiccup.
My 117 M8 SG ST probably won’t do as many miles as my 103 without an issue.
      I guess time will tell.
Heat is the major killer of these motors. I solved that problem on my 14’ with an oil cooler relocation, and a set of Love jug mighty mites and adding more fuel to the tune on my Power Vision.
Also your sacred EVO will never do 1,000,000 miles

    • @GuretoSefirosu
      @GuretoSefirosu Год назад +5

@@jayonez137 Sounds like you're just talking out of ignorance. See, HD was dying because the Japanese bikes were smoking American bikes in reliability. The Japanese killed every American manufacturer except for HD and HD was dying. Part of the agreement with the government to save HD was that they had to build a reliable motor that could be worked on by the common man with common tools.
Yes, I have seen an engine rebuilt at a rest-stop. Not completely from the ground up, but the top end was off. Guy got it going and rode off. It can and has been done. Have fun when any one of seven critical components on a fuel-injection system fail and you call a roll-back. I mean, unless you carry a laptop with diagnostic software, custom tools, and replacement electronics with you. Not saying the bikes don't look good, but I don't need a rolling computer if I'm not at the track.

@@GuretoSefirosu Show me the last sentence of your first paragraph .. I been at Harleys for 52 years now , one panhead , four shovelheads , two EVO's and two TC's .. The EVO was about seven years in the making , design was started around 1977 as I recall from my late friend who owned the HD dealership here .. My two EVOs , 1984 Tour Glide and 1988 Tour Glide together I amassed over 500,000 miles , they were reliable but not "THAT" reliable .. My 1977 Shovel was more reliable in many ways ..
The TC is light years ahead of the EVO , fuel injection is not unreliable . I'm pushing 85000 with this 2011 RGU and the cases have never been cracked open , nor the heads pulled .
The only issue I had was a bad VR , and about a year later a bad stator , replaced with after market system and all is well ..
