    Fighting honey bound colonies in Southern Illinois right now. Spring is well ahead of schedule here. Full time job and weather kept us from getting supers on when we should have. But we will get them straightened out.

    Picking up 2 nucs out of Great Falls MT in the morning ... delivering here to Kalispell where our temps are finally going to be warming into the 70s this upcoming week - they'll have a good start for sure as things will be popping open around here.

    Hey. Fred Dunn sent me a message to say hi when I picked up my nucs from you April 22.. he sent the message too late.. your nucs are fantastically strong! I’ve put one in a long lang, one in a flow hive, and two in some 10 frame SBM wooden hives. First inspection this weekend! They’re working the blackberries this week..

    Thank you again. I’ve used EZ Nucs for years, but never thought of venting with the top slot. On that note, do you guys use the Jester feeders to build them up? We only produce a few, and the feeders are great, but we’re not using them currently as they are in the same yard with 4-deep hives (can’t feed the little and not feed the big). I can’t thank you guys enough. While we’ll always be a backyard operation, the encouragement to make queens was a game changer, and I encourage even queen customers to make their own. Thanks so much! 👍🐝😃

    Hey Kamon, great video. Do you find issues with the EZ Nuc boxes and water? I find after I've moved the frames over and I go do dump the remainder of the bees in that rainwater can come out of the flutes of the EZ Nuc and dump all in my hive. I've learned to slowly turn it over and let the water pour out on the ground before the dump. Or just tip the nuc box on it's side at the hive's entrance and let the stragglers walk in.
    I've also noticed too much space at the top. A heavy comb building colony will make bur comb between the top bars and the lit. I still really like them for making nucs for sale. Plus they are great for dumping a swarm in and really good for transport.

      I agree that the JAYZEE coraplast nuc boxes need weep holes so the water can leak out.

    I had a really strong hive last year and they went into winter with 2 full deeps just packed out. Then I think it was in early February we had an extremely cold snap for around a week a negative 40 plus. I didn't think much about it because the cold one we had in December was a couple weeks and I checked on them right after and they were still going strong. So when it finally started warming up I took off all the protection wrap and opened up, they were all dead in across 5 frames. They still had frames full of honey that they were on, I think they just couldn't handle that second cold snap. So I'll just have to keep it clean and wait until next spring to get some more bee's ordered. They gave me 10 gallons of honey and they still had more than enough for the winter months. But I'm going to build a building for them to be stored in the winter months next time. I already have small heaters coming in for them so I can keep the Temps to around 10 to 15 degrees in there for them if not just a little bit higher. Hope you have a fantastic summer with your bee's this year.

    • @dewaynewhitney5703
      @dewaynewhitney5703 Год назад

      No mites. Like I said they were clustered over 5 deep frame's and just froze in place. That second deep freeze done them in. It was cold. I didn't even Want to get up and going in that cold just to get to work. And then deal with trying to get our trucks started and keep running in it.
