What if you have nerite snails that you want to keep ? how do you know which fish will eat what snails or to be on the safe side make a diy snail trap & use green beans as bait for them? that's what I have & without fail I catch 30-50 on each green bean I put in a 75 gal aquarium. I put like 4-6 green beans in different areas in the tank & it draws them to it.

nice video, but a slight correction: Clea Helena (Assassin Snail) will eat Maximum 0.54 snails per day, but the average is 0.357 Snails a day according to University Study, however when you google this you almost everywhere get the "they eat 1-3 snails a day" which is incorrect. the real number would be more like: Assassin snails eat on average 2.5 - 3.5 snails a week

Great list and information, thanks! I prefer to see a snail outbreak as a sign that I am feeding too much or too often. Reducing the food and feeding schedules aren’t quick fixes but doing so gets closer to the root of the problem.

I have dwarf chain loaches and invasive mini ramshorn snails. They completely ignore the snails. Maybe the mini ramshorns just aren't big enough for them to care? I also have an adult (goofball size) mystery snail in the same tank and they ignore him as well.

A chain loach could get accumulated to the temperatures. How cold is it? They can go down to 68. Otherwise goldfish - but they get larger. Slim bodies are better at harassing snails.
@@AquariumStoreDepot It's probably colder than that but thank you :). My platy fry seem to be nipping at them every now and again but things seem more difficult in cold water haha
I read that crayfish are better at eradicating a pest snail infestation than an Assassin's snail. I used to have a blue crayfish and I'm thinking of getting a dwarf blue brazos crayfish; they are good for smaller tanks. I got plants online that had bladder snails and the ammonia spikes killed the Assassin's snail I put in. That was a couple years ago and I now have Nerite snails and still have the bladder snails. I took a break from the hobby and am down to 1 tank. I occasionally feed the nirites Kats Aquatics calcium, which also feeds the bladder snails. I'm sure the java ferns feed them too. I killed 2-3 dozen during my last water change and about 2 dozen today. I am inspired by my new manger to get back into the hoddy.
2 yoyo loaches cleared out my bladder snail problem in a 29 gallon aquarium in less than a week. Even the ones that had been hiding in floating plants that I wouldn't think bottom feeders would look for.
I had bladder snails that were getting out of control on Saturday. I bought 2 yoyo loaches at PetSmart on Sunday. It's Thursday and I can't find any snails. This despite the fact the loaches have been hiding in my driftwood most of the daylight hours.
It basically sounded like the goldfish were the best ones, other than maybe the zebra loach. I definitely need to know because I have a lot of snails and actually I don't mind them but I don't want them to just overrun the tank and not have any other purpose. Or if they DO have another purpose.
I have hundreds of snails in my tank, but I also have shrimp. What fish can I use to eat all the snails without eating the shrimp? Any ideas welcome, TIA
Unfortunately of a fish eats shrimp it will likely have an appetite for inverts. Assassin snails are your best bet. They do have claims of them eating shrimp - but they usually only eat dying ones
Snails don't eat plants (except for some of the banned snails) Snail populations grow when we overfeed The best snail eaters are Assassin Snails. Buy 10 of them for any size aquariums and watch your snail problem dissapear in a few weeks or months
uh i keep adding snail, cos my assasin snail really destroy them. btw in my opinion, baby snail more destructive to plant than big snail. when i start i add 6 adult bladder snail to aquarium, everything go great, but after they breed, i start recognice lost of tiny hole in plant, n everthing start go ugly. until i remove all adult snail +adding 7 assasin snail, they eat alot of baby snail, n i start adding snail to feed them xD

Pea puffers will eat any snail. That would be your best bet

Yes - some of these fish will eat shrimp like the pea puffer

Loaches will eliminate snails - just pick the ones for your size. Keep in mind they prefer to be in groups.
