    "You have episode of chest 'discomfort". Gosh that word in the medical field needs to be banned. It's not just discomfort. That word is used way too much. I heard it being used on a young guy as they were pulling his dislocated shoulder back into place. Discomfort... I think not. But otherwise love these episodes!! The skills of the medical people are really incredible, and so is their empathy.

      No, Michael had a suspected heart attack. He was tachycardic but definitely did not die!! A cardiac arrest and heart attack are 2 separate events. Someone in cardiac arrest has no output, they are essentially deceased. Most out of Hospital cardiac arrest patients do not make it unless there is a defibrillator with shocks given and effective CPR given as soon as the patient goes into cardiac arrest.

    I’ve watched multiple episodes and I’m just wondering, do they ever use an MRI machine for things? Or do they stick to just ct scans?
    There is stuff the ct won’t pick up. So I’m very curious

    • @bethdurbin3279
      @bethdurbin3279 5 месяцев назад +9

      They do but CT Scan is faster than a MRI. Once the patient is stable, they will do a MRI if one is needed.

    • @lojean4
      @lojean4 5 месяцев назад +4

      I went to the ER because I had a headache for days that wouldn't go away, they did a spinal and CT scan , they said they found nothing wrong and sent me home, 3 days later I still had the headache and went to my family doctor who didn't believe there was nothing wrong and he ordered an MRI, the results showed I had multiple lesions on both sides of my brain and I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. So I really question when doctors just go off of CT scans

    • @johnschroeder3072
      @johnschroeder3072 5 месяцев назад

      In emergency MRI is probably never used. I think given what they'd be testing, it wouldn't be useful and also you don't have their medical history right there to confirm they don't have any metal objects in them

    • @racheld7528
      @racheld7528 5 месяцев назад

      @@johnschroeder3072 Correct, but if they can ask or get the info “are you allergic to contrast dye or shellfish” then I think getting the answer for metal in their body is just as easy. Also I’m asking this question after watching as many episodes as I have been able to find here on RUclips and I’ve had that thought on many occasions just thought I would ask it on this one.
      I’ve been a nurse for over 20 years and I know there are times MRI is used over Ct. Watching these shows I definitely notice some differences. It’s interesting to see them. I’m not judging I’m questioning. If we stop questioning things we stop learning. There are countries that do things different in many ways and I think it would be beneficial for others to incorporate them. It’s the way things can be done better and safer.

    • @racheld7528
      @racheld7528 5 месяцев назад

      @@lojean4 Agree. Maybe it’s a different practice from the US to the UK. When I’ve gone in for a severe migraine they send me straight to MRI of course it’s because of a note put in my chart. I hate going into an mri machine, so not my favorite but necessary option. Anyway, similar type scenario as yours the secretary at my child’s school her son had a low grade fever and headache. Headache got worse. She went to the children’s hospital. Ct scan showed nothing, spinal tap showed nothing. There were 30 drs and they were going to send him home but 2 spoke up and said no. They sent him to MRI and found out he had meningitis. If they had sent him home, we don’t know what could have happened. Their neighbors had a similar situation. No mri done and their child is now paralyzed.
      I hope you are holding up well enough with your diagnosis. Sorry I don’t know the right words. That’s a tough one and affects everyone differently.

    • @d.rim.4275
      @d.rim.4275 5 месяцев назад +4

      Yes. Firstly, it's an A&E aka Accidents and Emergencies, so they have two areas depending on how serious the problem is. A mere broken finger or an eye injury gets treated in the accident department.
      Secondly, if you have had an accident or a certain kind of illness that needs treatment quickly but you can't go to a GP, whether it's because of the time of day, day of the week or because the practice is full - that's what the A&E is for. (But not for a mere case of the snuffles, for example)
      When I broke my finger (it was bend at almost 90° to the side over the neighboring finger) and waited for the xray, I was still chatting along with my mum, even laughing.
      Same thing with my elderly neighbor I accompanied. We were chatting and joking, and she actually had to be admitted for emergency abdominal surgery.
      And I reckon you mean the couple, the guy with the eye injury? Yes, something like that is definitely a case for a&e since it is very time sensitive. If it gets not cleaned and treated properly right away the eye can get infected and that can result in loss of eyesight.
