A better way to instal radiant heat in concrete!!

- We started installing our radiant heat tubing a different way than how we used to tie it to the wire mesh. This barn is 56 X 56 and we installed all the tubing with 2 guys and my back did not even hurt from bending over to tie the tubing to the wire mesh. Now the wire is just up off the bottom about an inch and that is where you want it on the tension side of the slab.
Nice job👍I would recommend to put the manifold on and pressurize it during the pour. just in case a pipe gets damaged you can see it and make the repair.
It will always make my 'skin crawl' when I see untreated lumber buried in dirt.
Love your content!
The really neat thing about that stapler is that there is no battery and charger to chase around. Super cool.
You do have a good crew everybody knows their responsibility either that or the Boss is good at field instruction on the job. Impressive.
I used a FLIR to find where I can go into the concrete. Heat the lines up with hot water and they’re easy to find. It will also show if you have any flow problems. Works great!
Great job on the radiant. They’ll be happy with that
Very interesting stapler. No power or battery. Great for jobsites. Thank you for educating me again, Bondo.
Another nice job. You got in done just before the snowstorm!
Very informative video from start to finish. Very good job. Love your channel. Cheers from Australia. 🇦🇺
Seeing the before and after of the floor prep, i have to say that Kevin sure does a nice job!
Good looking work! 'it really saves your back' followed by 'yeah' from the hunched over tubing stretcher!! LOL Safety sneakers
Amazing to see all the conditions you work/pour/finish in. Just bummed you don't live in Texas! Ro looked happy with no pup to harass him!!! Got to see the older dog ready to ROLL!
It’s a great Sunday morning when Team Bondo posts
How thick is this slab?
Nice to watch your video s you guy work well!!
Wiremesh police checking in. Excellent placement of the screening. Now it is super long lasting cement. The other stuff you did looks very professional.
Great job guys! That epoxy will be outstanding when it bonds to the properly finished floor.
Watching you on a Sunday morning is like going to church 😊
Been watching for awhile and I still admaze by the coveayer on the truck been a easy winter this will be the one to remember . Take care enjoy your day haven’t been seeing the boss lately you’re dog 🐕
Good crew, they work together well.
Good job, all hard working men!
Makes me miss the Mid-West 😢. Way to go guys!
Awesome job men!
As always quality work! Do n it right. Nice work
10 👍's up BB thank you for sharing 🤗
Thanks for educating some of your viewers about the installation of radiant heat, not familiar with it living in NC, unusual to experience long periods of cold temps. Appreciate that the BB crew/family work in such concert with each other. Speaks to leadership. As my Uncle Wes, a "shade tree mechanic" and a good one at that, often said to customers, "I charge $40/hr - $60/hr if you stay and watch, and $80/hr if you try to help." Good job. Until next time...
Can you tell me what brand of floor foam you used and how many inches thick it is? And did you get it at Supply house? Thanks for any info!!
I follow for that answer
It has been asked below but no answer yet. What brand, type, and thickness are the foam insulation sheets you are using under the concrete slab. Nice job by the way! I have a 62' x 34' and a 125' x 50' shop concrete slab to pour in the near future. I like how you ran the radiant floor heat tubing. Considering doing the same thing on mine. 👍
I sure wish you were in North Carolina. We are building a ICF home. Really enjoy the videos.
If I had the money, id be flying this crew to do our shop that is being built this summer.
Love your work! Ever pressurize your tubing before and during a pour?
GPS foam boards?
Looking good, Biscuit… keep it up! Pretty soon you’ll feel like you can fly when you run with all that weight loss! 💪
I've used the same stapler. I found it jams less if you don't let the staples get too low. I'll add staples when it starts to use the last strip.
I keep thinking if I keep watching these videos I'm going to be a concrete contractor too and come to New York and make some of that quick money
How would you hurt the heating lines dumping a wheel barrow vs shooting it out from a chute? Sorry I just do not get it.
If you use AMPEX, it comes in many R values and there is no stapling, staples, etc. It comes with a heat welded vapour barrier on top which friction fits the pex tubing. So its a very fast install
Hello from British Columbia, Hi Rick, You Guys are awesome with the concrete . Do you have a separate site for your winter renovations. You have the whole family involved your kids are?? Big Biscuit, Jessie I can't remember the other one 's name. My Dad was a winter builder like you. We farmed and pounded nails all winter.
I ran rear mixers and some Oshkosh front mixers probably about 10 years ago, but I have never seen a conveyor system yet I have dumped into pump trucks and pumps
Excellent !
That staple gun is pretty slick and a real back saver. Over time the rusty wire reinforcement will rub on the PEX with every heating and cooling cycle of the slab, I would be concerned with future leaks. I would have used plastic chairs to raise the wire off the PEX tubing so there would be no future issues.
Why didn't the first truck with the longer conveyer stay so each subsequent truck could dump in getting you into the back corner without having to use the Brentwoods?
There’s no need to be concerned with leaks from the pex rubbing the wire. Very minute/if any movement
Working in Tshirts in feb 😊 crazy yes but nice Working condition
Did you pressure test those loops before burying them?
Hey Bondo, hope everyone is doing well. Concrete Life- gotta love it. Can you imagine doing anything else?
That turned out just right. So, I was wondering, what what the total yardage on that pour?
Did y’all use only a magnesium float to get that finish?
Forgive me for all the questions, I sometimes forget what has been said.
Be looking out for your next video.
Keep up the great job. 🤘
😮 big biscuit looks different with the weight loss. 💪💪💪 great for him. We don't want to see anything happen to him
nice and thanks. where did you locate the black under lay foam please?
Brand X is only about 15 minutes from your location! Better watch your back! LOL 😂 You might end up with some concrete shoes to go swimming with! 😊 Fin crete happens in the winter because on a cold day, when the truck is loaded at the plant, if they add very hot water when first batching the load, the drum is cold, and expands quickly, causing the fin crete to fall off as the steel expands. It’s a little tell about who rinses their truck good, and who doesn’t. Sometimes!😳😉 The joys of traveling Rt.34 in the winter!
I've got a basement that is about 2/3 of the footprint of my house and the remaining 1/3 is a crawl space open to the basement. I want to incapsulate the crawl and put down foam board. Should the foam board go under the vapor barrier or above it? I have no intension of covering it with concrete and I also run a woodstove in the basement.
When you push that foam or any board through the table saw you should hook a few fingers over the fence that way if it kicks back the board won’t pull your hand into the blade.
Did you have to be carefull on which side the mesh was layed out so as to not damage the tubing with a sharp end of the wire
Love your floors! So if when its all done you check it with the laser, what would you say your deviation is +/- I always run stiff mix and lacking skill I'll set some 1 1/2 conduit screed pipes on home made rebar chairs, I'm slow AF setting up for certain. Most of my outdoor stuff runs a double thickness frost block and fiber mix 4.5 5k . not had any cracks. Friend wanted pro-work done for a small machine shop, they were an inch high on the edges, can't figure out how unless they used a home depot 2x4 screed
Thanks we like to stay within 1/4" when we pour. The screed chair and pipe work good if you lack wet screed experience.
The wire mesh police won’t be able to complain on this one!
Do you need to pressure test the pex pipe after you pour the mud? Have you thought about using a pex pipe uncoiler?
Question. What causes the top to flake off? I have seen this on a lot of floors in my area lately.
How much more is it for a conveyor truck over using the chutes ?we don't have anything like that in Vancouver canada just truck whel barrow or pump
Thanks….. looks great. Biscuit looks lite on his feet. Can I send you some $$ for wiper blades?
how thick was the foam board and what brand do you perfer to use?
Is there a extra charge for conveyer truck?
What foam board is that and where can you get it ? Thanks in advance!
I'd hate to get fired by you. Meaning, you're such a good boss, I'd work my ass off for you.
5:07 I submit that this manifold might be easier to build on the bench. Tighter result, too?
You didn’t do a pressure test on the tubing before pouring the concrete?
What kind of insulation board did you put down? Im about to have a 40x60 pole building built and want radiant heat which wasn't in original plan. Trying not to break the bank, insulation worst part.
Question, some guys put foam board along the edge vertically below grade, sometimes one or 2 feet question, some guys put foam board along the edge below grade, sometimes one or 2 feet below, I’m thinking it will help prevent thermal loss from the edges of the slab. Is that an optional thing, or do you just not believe in it?
How big is that and how much did concrete cost for project
Love Supply house, order by 4pm and we have it usually next day here in CNY! Out of curiosity, how come you don't pressurize the pex tubing prior to pouring the concrete to monitor for possible line breaks? I do see the crew is super careful while dumping the brentwoods, but it seems to be common practice amongst others. No hate, just curious. Great pour!
I wondered that too
Bondo how can I get in contact with you about doing a job? Love your work, very interested! Thanks
7 warmest months since recordkeeping started. Bet March will be a record breaker too.
How thick did you pour the slab?
That extra bit at the end of the load might be just what you need if you are short
What was the purpose of the plywood planks? The wheelbarrow wheels weren't rolling on them, the concrete poured from the wheelbarrow's weren't poured on them either. So, what was their function?
Mechanic shop will have a boost in it? How do you suggest to your customer to bolt the boost to the floor when it has radiant heat? If be scared of pierced the tubes?
I've seen bondo hang a plumb from the wrafters after the pex is placed, and before the concrete is poured. The plumb will hang directly where the lag bolts will go into the concrete without hitting the pex
I was always told you want the tubing suspended in the floor.
Happy birthday to Chris' son.
What you mean by balance?
Men earning their wage. Great video Bondo
What is that stapler called
Pressure check?
how do you connect tyhe tubing together and to the 90`s at the manifold? glue?
Those gray 90s just bring the pex out of the slab. The orange tubing connects to manifold directly. I think they get a crimp collar on a barbed fitting.
I'm curious what happens to the styrofoam board under the concrete over time.
Nothing, it´s denser foam type for flooring and Styrofoam is mainly susceptible to sun, temperature about 40 degrees Celsius (maximum you ever should let go into floor heating) cannot cause any damage to polystyrene foam.
Bondo have you ever gotten a friction burn off of Styrofoam.
Tape your floor insulation seams. Less chance that a smaller piece will float during the pour and it creates a much better vapor barrier. We put plastic down over the dirt first which is code here, I think.
Should have taped the vapor barrier joints and perimeter to make it more effective. 6 mil probably won't last too long. Use T&G insulation and stagger the joints to keep it from floating. Have you tried using fiber mesh, superplasticiser and shrinkage reducing admixture in the mix and then no need for control joints?
@@brentschulz3152how big of a slab can you avoid control joints on with the proper mixture?
@@jamesbelk8033 With the right mix design, I've done 60'x60' monolithic slabs inside an FDA blast freezers that supports forklift traffic.
rebar chairs yo. your pex would perform better if properly embedded in concrete, not to mention the mesh....also , since you're using 6" mesh, its just as easy to just zip tie the pex to the mesh which also holds it together....
Radiant heating should be better choice than forced air no recirculating of any irritants.
I thought that you have to fill the system before pouring concrete and keep it under pressure!
What are paying for Nudura these days ?? Say, an 8ft piece ?
How would a person get in touch with you I'm in the Watertown area do you come this far
Most people call Circle T because I do not put my phone number on RUclips. LOL. Not sure depends on the job buddy.
You don't do a counter spiral layout. I imagine you get uneven heat in your slab .
Hey Rick, I saw your comment here and I'll be doing a PEX in floor next month. Can you educate me on a counter spiral layout? Thanks mucho. Ken
I hope you do videos all the way through on the heat. I'm Goin to build my daughter a small house in a few weeks using all these methods. I'm assuming supply house is where the foam came from?
ok Bondo,, how many times have you stapled your toe?
All he has to do is drop the carbs and sugar and he would drop another 100 pounds pretty easily. He already looks like a different person.
Big biscuit needs to eat better because he surely gets enough exercise with this work. Every mason I know have arms the size of most legs!
👍👍👍🇺🇸
tape the seams on board....
Not criticizing ,but I did not understand why you did not tape the seams of the insulation.
Why would they build something in front of the 'loading docks'? The one truck dock seems to be aligned with the new door, but the second dock is not! Maybe if they only have small box trucks using it, then they might be able to back in, but semi's or if another truck is at the left dock, you won't be able to get into the right dock!
Maybe I left that comment to early and they are putting racking in and not going to use those docks!
Why are a few of the radiant tubes not straight? I know there is a reason. haha.
I explained it in the video about the racking going in there.
Better hope theres no sharp edges on your wire mesh that will poke holes in your plastic tubing.
The music is ok once in a while but not looped...omg
hey bondo my names erik i live in eureka montana and ive been building here for twenty years but the quality of work has decreased here bad (no inspections her only electrical and that minimal ) i was wondering why you dont vibe your forms when on an exterior exposure many times i see impure edges when you pull the forms where i grew up in california the inspectors didnt like that butttt dont put me in the corner for a small question and everyone steps on the bar when pouring anyhow love medium biscuit i hurt my knee recently snow mtracking had to have surgury on ACLand watching your content we here have no one who finishes as good as you guys here the co crete guys suck shit here no thermal frost breaks not on the foundations or the ground why you didnt do it this time i dont know but you finish real NICE i would let you finish out one of my jobs anytime im really proud of you getting your son a truck (too bad ita ford buttt)you guys take care dont get hurt it sucks doing a u tube time out heheheh
Why not use styrofoam that is meant for radiant heat and then you don’t need to staple? That is how I did mine and it makes it simple.
The foam with the Chanel’s in it is double the price of this foam and the staples are cheap. I have to be cost competitive as I have other contractors bidding against me on these jobs.
@@bondobuilt386 saves a lot of labour. Throw the roll on your shoulder and walk.
Bondo, why don't you good or if they make one a dollar that you can put that roll of tubing in and just roll it out ahead of you and said it, have the guy bend over and try and roll that stuff out.Just saying
Enough
