Making Spring electric Guitar/Bass set - Full build

- Next project in the four season series. Spring is almost over but I managed to get this project done with a few days to spare ;) My bro an I spent hours and hours trying to figure out which symbol represents spring the best, flowers, bees and we finally agreed on two swallows, one on each fret board. Special thanks to Damir lesic who free handed a couple of swallow drawings from which we chose the one for the guitar , also thanks to Ante Brizić and Krešimir Klen-Fish for the final Guitar test! :)
Guitars are designed as a neck trough. Blocks were glued two months ago and then let to rest to minimize any kind of warping after the guitars are complete. The wood used was white maple and 1.5mm mahogany veneer. After resting, surfaces were flattened and planed down to thickness of 38 mm. This time the fronts were milled first with all the holes and grooves for truss-rods, pickups and bridges. I used 4 flutes 12 mm ball end bit for finishing and 3 flutes 4 mm flat end bit for the grooves. For the other side I used 20mm flat end for roughing and again 12 mm ball end for finishing. For the fret grooves on the fret board I used 0.6mm flat end bit which is so tiny I really couldn't see for sure how many flutes it had :D. The swallow was milled using 1mm three flutes flat end bit. The swallow groove is then filled with epoxy with some mahogany dust to achieve a red color. Truss rod is made from two 4 mm cold rolled steel rods and smooth elongated nuts as shown in the video. The nuts that will be used to tighten the truss rod are drilled and then protected by hot bluing method, a specialty of my friend Goran Milardović. After bluing they are welded to the rod and placed beneath the fret board. Two 1 mm pins are hammered trough the fret grooves to keep the fret board in place while gluing, they are removed afterwards. After drying, heads are sanded down to 14 mm thickness and holes are drilled for the tuning pegs. Guitars are then sanded with 400 grit sandpaper and 7 coats of oil is applied. Before applying the oil based varnish, frets are pressed and flattened. The holes for the pickups and electronics are sprayed with black graphite paint and grounded to minimize the interference. Guitar were then sprayed in 4 coats of oil based gloss finish with sanding in between each coat. After the final coat, the guitars are assembled and the bone nus are sanded down and adjusted. For bass we used EMG JX set and Fishman Fluence Classic humbucker set for the guitar. Bridges and tuning pegs are from Schaller.
I really hope you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching and don't forget to like and subscribe! :D

Seeing a beast of a CNC machine wielding such a fine bit for the frets blew me away.
If I tried that, the machine would snap the bit instantly and knuckle drag through the entire workpiece, refusing to stop!
Awesome work as ever.
When man makes a robot and that robot makes a guitar, it’s a beautiful thing.
16:36 un, dos, tres, cuatro, just remembered to my guitar class, excellent video 😁👍🏼
Those both look so beautiful. Your creativity and skill always impresses me and it was fascinating to watch from beginning to end. Thank you for sharing that with us.
Thank you so much! And thank you for watching as always :D
I was disappointed to see that you didnt make your own guitar strings from scratch. Just kidding. great work
Maybe one day! :D Thank you J T
@@lignumchannel idk about strings but Pickups are relatively easy if you already have experience getting around a workshop, they're fun to make too
love your work
There are a lot of things I am going to burrow for my own bass guitar build, amazing video!
very fun to watch pros at work...
Wow!!! What a great job!!! Very nice bass and guitar! Congrats!!!
My favorite build in this channel so far. Every build is great but this one is my favorite ❤️

Thank you Robert! I'm glad you like it! I'm not the biggest fan of epoxy but I'm glad how it turned out..
That was AMAZING!!!
Jam after dark... Again, brilliant work with good music...
Thank you Karl! :D
I really love the beveled wood piece behind the nut!
Absolutely remarkable build.

impressive as always .... that terminator robot arm is always amazing to watch
Thank you, I must say after years of watching it, it still fascinates me..
@@lignumchannel btw i am from Trinidad in the Caribbean , i been viewing your videos for the past 2 years , i'm sure you have other fans that are from here ...
Dear Sir,
What a nice thought to have some guitar background music to accompany your guitar project to fruition. I would hazard to guess that it brings inspiration to all those involved in the built. Your choice of woods certainly yields some character to your wonderful ideas. I think that sort of solid instrument is best processed via machine as you've demonstrated; after all there is still a fair amount of hand work involved in putting it all together. The end results are quite frankly outstanding( as always!!!). Very well done. Kind regards.,
Great idea, great work, great clip. There is no "Golden Buzzer" on this page, but you have a big, fat YES from me.
Beautiful attention to detail. Great seeing you fabricate parts to your own spec & detail. I would like to see zero fret and nuts only being used for string guiding. The attention to detail on the headstock is wonderful. Love the inlay.
I'm really glad you like it! I have a couple of design ideas planned and fretless bass is one of them.. thank you so much for watching!:)
멋져요!
마지막에 연주도 멋지고,좋아요.

Thank you very much for the sub! :D
Amazing!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Never disappointed. Absolutely wonderful. I hate when I see the "this isn't woodworking" comments when a CNC is used. They definitely have never used a cnc before to know that everyone of those commands was first designed by the maker. Loved how you showed the details of making the neck and frets.
A CNC is nothing more than a tool that helps accelerate the work process.
Great videos friends!
Great Artist,cooler Sound 👏👍👍🤗
Thank you very much Achim! :D
I am simply at a loss for words, you just keep upping the bar and I simply don't know how you can keep doing it so well. Also, sorry to have to mention this but, now we need a winter guitar, an autumn bass, a summer guitar and bass combo and 7 more instrument cases! That should keep you busy and us thoroughly entertained for quite awhile! LOL!
Omg, I really got myself neck deep in guitars now haven't I.. :D At least I don't have to think about what to do for the
next 11 projects.. Thank you so much, I hope the summer one will be best of all..
Both are very handsome and clean. I appreciates ya, man.
Trabalho incrível! 👍
Odlično si napravio gitaru. Za tvoj youtube kanal sam čula na televiziji i stvarno mi se sviđa sve što radiš. Želim ti puno uspjeha u ostalim projektima.😁😁😁
Hvala puno Karla! :D
Hermosos los bajos felicidades
Parabéns pelo seu trabalho
My god, that bass is a beaty!
Lo mejor para el final 😎😎😎
You guys are just crazy
:D In a good way I hope
Супер. Как всегда!!!!
Thank you! :D
It was too beautiful to give to you😁😁
fun fun fun!!
I love the 3,000 year shift from the Cyborg Robo Router to the handheld chisel rounding off the neck
As allways, some design details are decided as the work goes on.. :) and chisels are the best!
More fine work indeed, and worthy additions to an already amazing set. Looking forward to seeing summer! :D
Thank you very much Matt! I hope you'l also like the next one!
@@lignumchannel I am sure I will! Cheers :D
how i wish i can have a guitar like this
I love the idea of a twin pair of guitar/bass. It's almost poetic in a weird way
I'm glad you like it Joakim!
Right guys, that's enough jamming, you need to hurry up and get to work on the next one cos we can't wait to see it! Beautiful work btw :)
Already working on it! The design is more less completed and we should glue the block in a week or so.. The block needs to settle for at least a month before the milling.. It should be done by the end of the summer.. (hopefully a lot sooner) I'm glad you like it, thank you!
amazing as always! where are you guys located? do you have a website for all the things you fabricate in your shop?
Can one of these basses be purchased? Awesome craftsmanship....!
Masters
Awesome build. It's great to see when people come up with their owns ideas and not just copy a Fender or a Gibson.
Thank you very much. I always try to come up with some original idea and I must say, it's the hardest part of any project..
Шикарная гитара🎸 👍 Страдивари, блин)
Amazing work. Good proyect. About the music, Wich is the songe? thank
nice
Thanks:D
non-identical twins
Love it !
Thank you Andy! :D
👌🏻
Best guitar building channel that isn't a guitar building channel. Ben @ Crimson Guitars just got pwned
ahaha, thank you! :D
You gonna do all that. Then get that round over bit out and also round the high side on the fretboard
What beauties ...
Thank you Sam! :)
I hope someday have a lignum bass¡ ❤️
Thank you so much!
More and more video about guitars
well, there will be at least one more.. :D
It’s a pity to see those screws stick out on backcover or beside the guitar’s pickup, otherwise amazing skills, woods, design and precision!
Was watching your winter and autumn build like 2 hours ago, and was like, when are the other seasons coming, I really appreciate your talent and skills
:D I have to start working on next one asap if I want to complete it by the end of summer :D I'm glad you like it Adarsh, thank you!
You should send it to Davie504, I'd love to see him playing it

Fun fact:
Davie504 is actually in his girl friend's homeland, Taiwan. COVID-19 quarantine caught him up there. Italy may not be far but he is. Vey sad times there. Not epicc.
Great work! Can you tell me the purpose of those metal rods, screws and "hole-things" in the neck of the guitar/bass? I'm no guitar specialist, so I don't get it... Especially all the holes in the little tubes and so on. Thanks in advance!
It’s a truss rod. It’s so you can adjust the amount of relief in the neck.
@@alexnam1230 Aaaah, perfect - thank you!
Nice build.
How much is a 5 string?
I built a flying V much the same. Great sustain, but heavy as a brick. Have always wanted to go back and rout out the body. Seems like with your fancy arms you could chamber the body in interesting ways...
Yes, I did it on winter bass, It came out pretty good.. I'm thinking about repeating it for the summer one..
@@lignumchannel sure enough. Hadn't even seen that one. Hollow body arch top w/ integrated bracing next?! You have the technology...
ખુબજ જોરદાર કામ બાપુ.
Have you ever had issues with broken truss rods? TIG welding might be a better option
Hmmmm deep fried bolts my favorite
how much this bass guitar?? i love it😍
Oh my goodness, are these for sale at all? Would you be interested in making an electric uke very similar to this style?
Yes, they are for sale =) you can get more info on info@lignum-art.com
1000👍
Stradivarius and Amaty.
how do you keep a solid piece that large from bow/twist/warp ?
Well I chose grain orientation carefully for each part and left the blank block to rest for a couple of months after gluing before milling..
Красиво
Thank you! :)
I would like to buy it because it looks like Soviet vintage furniture from 70s
HOW MUCH DO YOUR BASSES START AT. I AM ALMOST IN THE MARKET FOR A NEW ONE?
Danse Macabre. :)
what brand of cnc is that? never saw one like it.
Looks like the ones used in car manufacturing...
lignum -Hello! Where are you guys located?
Great pair of axes, I'm a bit conflicted about the build though. Part of me is, wheres the woodworking skill and the personal touch you bring to the build. On the other hand, how great would it be to setup the software and watch the machine turn it into a wonderful instrument. Somewhere there is a compromise, but there again I'm old and have to learn to embrace the future and appreciate change.
Well Neil, sometimes I also think about it.. The truth is I would never be able to bring all the ideas to existence without the robots help, I would have simply too little free time for all the RUclips projects along side the regular work I do that brings in the cash..
Show quanto custa um desse
Nice Spanish speaking! Keep on rocking!
Ahaha:D thank you!
)))
would you pass me the cad / cam files of the parts?
I gotta know. Does making stuff like guitars and instrument cases actually pay for those robots or was it another side of the business that funded them?
Most of the work here on youtube are hobby projects I do in spare time. Main work I do that pays the bills is glulam structures. Some glulam projects can be seen here on the channel. I wouldn't mind branching a part of business into guitars though, ever since I've made the first one, I must say I really enjoy making them..
