Such a shame that we still don't have an official modern English release of The Last War (1961). Not as concerned about the missing export dub, but the movie itself deserves a release in the west. Great video, can't wait for the next one ;)
NBC was the only major network that wanted Godzilla for its programming, and John Belushi was a notorious G-fan. After this, other networks bought the film's, but only used them for Saturday/Sunday afternoon "Creature Feature Spookshow" stuff.
I remember watching this on television. I recall one bumper where Belushzilla was sitting on a stool thumping through a Japanese-English dictionary. In another bumper Belushzilla was (In imitation of the movie.) laughing out loud, when a paper machae boulder flies in and hits him, knocking him back. He then rebounds with a prerecorded Godzilla roar. And in the final bumper we see a banner saying “Godzilla Vs Meglleon” and Belushzilla tearing through it towards the camera while roaring. I hope they find these bumpers one day.
Another piece of lost footage is the Godzilla 1954 "cow scene". I understand why they may have decided to remove it, but still, it's a shame it's now lost.
So the reason why Akira Takarada didn't have a scene in the 2014 movie was because the test audiences were so desperately eager to get to the monsters? Talk about impatience.
They better release the novel 'Godzilla and the Lost Continent'. I read all of Mark Ceracini's Godzilla books and thoroughly enjoyed them, so it's frustrating to know that the last novel was completed but never released. (Damn you Zilla '98!)
I had met Mr. Takarara san at a Chiller Theater convention about ten years ago. I recall him being a very nice man. After greeting him and getting his autograph, I had then bowed and said “Domo Aragoto”. This tickled him because he was not expecting an American to do this. He then exchanged his bow to me. According to the video, the scenes of Mister Takarara san are not even really missing. Whoever owns the rights to the movie is just sitting on them. Those scenes should have been already restored.

As far as I remember, AIP distributed the Showa movies to theatres in the states until they decided to start marketing the film's to TV. They apparently did this because by 76, the movies weren't bringing in the cash they used to, and cinemas didn't want them anymore - audiences wanted serious, dark and gritty movies then. So the distributors chose to chase that sweet, sweet advertising cash that TV provided.
It's really cool rewatching this in 2023 and seeing what has been found or what new information has come up since this video came out, like wangmagwi is being released soon and various dubs might be found, or how the king kong footage has been confirmed to have never existed. There's also the animated Chaiyo Ultraman show from 2001, which had 26 episodes made, but aside from a few episodes on RUclips, it's lost to time. Awesome content guys, this kinda stuff absolutely fascinates me, and MIB’s depth of knowledge never ceases to amaze 🤩 Some other notable mentions are Toho’s self-ban on 1955’s “Half-Human” and Tsuburaya’s banning of UltraSeven episode 12 “From Another Planet with Love” from rebroadcast or home release (though some dubbed versions are floating around). Two films featuring one of Japan’s oldest costumed heroes, The Golden Bat, are missing, 1950’s “Golden Bat: Phantom of the Skyscrapers” by Shin Eiga-sha and Toho’s own “The Golden Bat Appears” from 1972. And aside from those mentioned at 13:17 other notable showa-era Toho tokusatsu films without official western releases (though not necessarily having a commissioned dub) include The Invisible Avenger, The Secret of the Telegian, Daigiro vs Goliath, Gorath, ESPY, Horror of the Wolf, Blue Christmas, Sinking of Japan, and Prophesies of Nostradamus, not to mention a subtitled version of King Kong Escapes ☹️ And Daiei’s four invisible man-type films also remain unseen on western shores 😅 Also, does anyone know if parts of 1960’s TV toku “Marine Kong” are still missing, or is it just unreleased? 🤔
Great video too but I was surprised at no mention of the canceled NES Rodan game. Also, there’s a full Danish version of Reptilicus out there somewhere that I don’t think anyone has seen.

This is fascinating. There were some Godzilla fan films on youtube I saw when I was younger but now they're not available anymore. Should have downloaded them when I had the chance.
I'm not sure if I can remember this but, I did used to watch a video of Godzilla: The Real 4D by one a person with a japanese name, so here's how the story goes from what I remembered, you were in a Jet that was tasked to attack Shin Godzilla, and most of the stuff are just Jets getting killed by Godzilla, but the ending where the Jet protagonist flew up to the sky and dived down as Godzilla fired his Atomic Breath at them, and the logo of the Universel Studio was shown as he fired his beam, the protagonist fired missles inside Shin's mouth and he just dissapears after the missles entered his mouth , this is all I remembered from that one video, I tried finding it but it was gone. (Note: The video also showed real footage of the ride, unfortunately the video is gone for an unknown reason.)
When I was younger I had a vhs that had 2 heavily edited and poorly dubbed monster movies. The Magic Serpent and another wu-tang like movie with a giant eagle. Both were edited to a little over 30min and the dubs sounded like they were done in a garage... the tape is long gone at this point. Still a fun memory though!
Thank you very much for doing this video. 😊 As someone from Honolulu, I found the note about the University of Hawai'i at Manoa quite interesting. We don't pronounce "KHON" as "Kay-HON": we say each letter in K.H.O.N. individually. Again, great video. 😀
Dubbing houses, especially in HK, would also dub trailers, regardless if they were released bin English speaking countries or not. This would often confuse people in to thinking there might be alternate dubs of some films. There may in fact have been alternate dubs, but many dubbing houses did so much work that it was hard to keep track back in the day to cay for certain
surprised the extended cut of Kong 76 went unmentioned. It aired on TV in 1978 on NBC and was split into two parts because of the 3-hour runtime. I know there's recordings and some of the scenes have made it on youtube, but there has yet to be an official release of this version.

As someone who just recently discovered Marc Cerasinis Godzilla novels and started reading them....super upset that The Lost Continent never got published...stupid 1998 film...
About five years ago Time/Life came out with a History of Godzilla book. It described making the 1954 movie, and mentions a filmed outtake that no one talks about. On the first day of filming they were going to film the scene where Godzilla crashes through the Diet Building, their version of the Capital building. The suited actor walked down the miniature street, and promptly tripped on his big monster feet and fell over flat on his big monster face! (And injuring himself.) And in doing so he destroyed the Diet building, but not in the way the studio intended. The special effects people were up all night repairing the miniature sets to redo the scene. And the next morning they had a new suit actor; and so Haruo Nakijima would show us all how it’s done. They were most certainly filming when this accident occurred. So I wonder if the film of “The Fall of Godzilla" still exists somewhere. Of if not, maybe a still photo exists of Godzilla lying face down on the smashed set.
I'm surprised you guys didn't mention The Legend of King Kong which was a 1976 remake which was unreleased due to the legal battle between R.K.O., Paramount, and Universal.

As someone who just recently discovered Marc Cerasinis Godzilla novels and started reading them....super upset that The Lost Continent never got published...stupid 1998 film...
The weird thing it's not the first time Godzilla was technically in the same world as Saturday night live

OH MY GOODNESS! GODZILLA MONSTER MAYHEM?! I remember playing that all the time.
little side note: when you play king gidorah you can go out of the map
Good job Wikizilla and monster island buddies
I'm surprised you guys didn't mention The Legend of King Kong which was a 1976 remake which was unreleased due to the legal battle between R.K.O., Paramount, and Universal.
It wasn't just unreleased, it was never filmed. Not what this video's about.
Omni Productions dub. Omni Productions dub. Why does that sound so familiar?
Dear Lord. Transformers Headmasters dub.
