In pre-partition British years, Kakul was an Artillery School, which was shifted to Deolali, in Maharashtra State , India, and is existing even today and a part of Indian Army's Artillery Force..
Kakul was then converted to PMA by Pakistan Army perhaps under the leadership of Maj.General Fazal Mukeem Khan..
