Growing up in NE FL, we never really did a fall garden. Now as an adult in SWFL, the fall garden is the BEST growing season for me. Everything grows better and taste better. Prime tomato season is fall - Feb for me now. Just sucks if we get a bad hurricane
Condolences on the loss of Greg's father. How blessed you are to have had him in your life for so long! My father died a week after my 13th birthday, at 48 years old. I vaguely remember his pocket knife, but don't know the brand. It looked similar to the one your dad had. I hadn't thought of that in decades. Thanks for the memories! I'm 75 now. I think Old Goat is hiding in the red onions above Mama Hoss' head. I can't wait to plant peas! Oh, I wouldn't have the knife restored. The memories are in the wear!
Hey Greg and Sheila I have an idea , being that people want to buy the socks and y’all in the selling business then do a Row by Row socks . They are some good wearing socks. Love mine
2nd comment since you asked about our Daddy’s knife. My daddy always had cheap knives because there was no money with 7 kids. He was a carpenter. My husband and I get him a Case and he toted it with pride. He said it was the nicest he ever had. 😭 I loved my daddy!
Your comment about listening to old farmers and adapting the advice to what works for you is the best advice you can give. Listen to what people do in your area, and adapt it to what works best for you. Different areas have different climates and growing conditions. Also different gardening styles have different ways of doing things that work. Best advice I have learned here on this channel ever!!!
So sorry to hear about the loss of your father. Sending prayers for you and your family during this difficult time. And thank you for taking the time to share all of this great info!
Prayers and condolences out to y'all on your loss. Thank y'all for sharing can't wait to start our fall garden after this year's crazy hot summer. Mr old goat is in the onions behind Ms Sheila. Y'all have a blessed day.
I started gardening almost 40 years ago on my own a few years after I got married. I essentially just stuck seeds in the soil and hoped for the best. 😳🫣 I first learned by asking older people. I LOVE Grannie knowledge! I taught myself how to pressure can, water bath, and seed start. I now watch RUclipsrs and yes, definitely check your sources!! Hoss ??? Greg and Sheila??? 🤔 Yup! I’m safe! Best seeds on the market and I truly enjoy these videos. May God bless you both with peace, strength, and many pleasant thoughts and memories of your Daddy. 👩🌾💙🙏
Sorry for your loss Hoss family. Sounds like you have wonderful memories of your dad. Just like your dad mine carried an old timer and I remember him sharpening it on a whet rock, he wouldn't tote a dull knife.
Sorry to hear about your Dad passing. Glad to see the knife of the week return. My PawPaw always carried a 3 blade bone handled Case XX knife. My Daddy always had Old Timers. I have several of their old knives and would never restore them. I keep them just as they were when they used them. The old goat is in the onions behind Mama Hoss.
So sorry for your loss. It is hard but you'll pull through. We will keep you all in our prayers. This is one of my favorite shows, people, and I love ordering seeds from you guys. My dad has always carried and still carries a swiss army knife. The old goat is in the bunch of onions above momma Hoss' head.
Sorry for your loss. My Dad didn't carry a knife but my Granddaddy did, a two blade Old Timer. You have inspired ne to try peas this fall, I marked my calendar for Sep 1st. The Old Goat's hang'n from the red onions.
Sending my condolences to your family in this sad time. Prayers of peace and comfort. I appreciate your commitment to help us learn and grow. 🙏🏼. Old goat is hiding in onions behind Greg by Get Dirty sack.
Sorry for the loss of your dad! I suffered a great loss when my dad passed away. He was an agronomist and always knew how to manage my garden. I didn't realize how much he knew and how little I knew until he was gone. I plant royal burgundy bush beans here in northern Illinois because they seem to be much more cold tolerant than other types. This year I had "off types" for the first time. Looks like the old goat is at the top of the onion bag above Mama Hoss.
So sorry for your loss Greg. We are all only here for a little while I guess. I'm so glad you found your dad's knife. Little things from our childhood. God bless. Old goat is I believe, falling off the side of those red onions. my picture is a little blurry. He better be careful, or you'll be putting the pieces back together again.
My dad toted an US made old timer. He cut up apples, whittled marshmallow sticks, removed slivers, and even used it to put mustard on bologna sandwiches. Good memories.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I am prepping for my fall garden here in central/south Florida. Looking forward to the cooler temps...my favorite gardening season. I see the old goat hanging out in the onions behind mamma hoss.
So sorry, Greg for the loss of your father. My prayers are with you and your family. Thank you so much for the growing info for English peas. I live in zone 9, south central TX. I am going to grow a fall container garden for the first time soon. I have 8 GreenStalk planters and about 25-30 grow bags to prepare. I have always had trouble growing English peas in the spring. I plant them early March, they grow good, then it gets hot in May, they struggle and die. So, I am going to try to grow peas this fall. Our temps cool down mid-Oct, so I'm hoping the peas will be established by then and will continue to grow in the cooler weather. I am planting dwarf pea varieties that won't grow very tall, Little Marvel, Tom Thumb and Kelvedon and won't need trellising or maybe just a small one. Am going to grow brassicas, carrots, beets, turnips, radishes, kohlrabi, green beans, lettuce, potatoes and bunching onions. Hopefully, I will get a more successful harvest from the cooler weather.
Sorry to hear about your dad passing. May the Lord give you peace and strength in these times for both of you and your family. Old goat is hiding in the onion behind Miss Hoss
Daddy carried an Old Timer in his pocket and used it for Everything! He was never without it. But one of my Favorite memories of what he carried in his pocket was a pair of Fingernail clippers. He had a game with all us kids that when we asked "Daddy can we see your clippers", (In southern talk that means can we use your clippers). He then would pull them out of his pocket, let us "see" them, then put them back in his pocket. We would protest and say No Daddy let us use them! It ended up in a wrestling match of us trying to get his clippers away from him. Ha ha! Funny thing is that he got us every time with that joke. It never got old. It doesn't take much to make the Best of Memories! 😊
My Condolences. Prayers for the family. U-date on the Red Snapper seeds the wife ordered (twice) I’ve had 100% germination in the middle of summer, BUT, IT HAS BEEN SOOOO HOT, only a few of the plants have grown much at all. Honestly this was a test to see if I want to plant these next spring. And I have to say this will be my tomato for 2025. Thanks for another great video.
Grandfather carried a case. We used to sit at the kitchen table for a snack. He would carve up a yellow apple in his hand and he would give a piece and take a pice of apple. He would hand me the apple pressed between us his thumb and knife. Got the knife now.
Condolences for your Dad's passing, Greg. 🤍 I have several of my daddy's pocket knives and he loved his mini Swiss pocket knife. The old Goat is enjoying a bunch of onions by Sheila. Take care.
"Old Timer" got mine in my hand right now! Dad had one most of the time, aprox. 3 1/4" in length ( seems like they also made one larger size,I had one of those when I was younger, I'm 67) when I was a kid I carried a "Barlow style "2 blade. That Old Timer carries in jeans or dress pants! And Yes I was a kid! Most boys, by the time we were in forth or fifth grade had a pocket knife! A farm kid probably wouldn't leave the house Without one! In high school, you could tell it was Pheasant season by the shot guns in gun racks in the pickups in the parking lot! But that's another topic 🙄. Greg sorry for your loss, thanks for posting your show, remembering my Dad,😢passed away to young! Looking forward to the Colorrds next month.
I have ordered a few seeds and other things from Hoss Tools here in the last year...I'm well satisfied with everything I have ordered.. Great Customer Service wonderful Company.. I did get a pack of pole beans when I ordered bush beans.. But it wasn't the Lake Bush Beans variety... It was Lima Beans... I glad planted them by a trellis.. They're doing good.. Should be picking them soon.
😢So sorry for the loss of your father, Greg. Praying for you & your family for your hearts to be comforted.
