The purple boy has been my favorite indeterminate tomato so far due to its rich taste and disease resistance, I tried growing Cherokee Purple and they start off strong but quickly start developing a lot of issues for me in 8B. I'm yet to figure out how to grow this so Purple Boy has been a great alternative. Good Luck everyone and happy gardening!

We have 78 tomato plants planted this year in Northeast Texas. Many different varieties and both determinate and indeterminate. We have a few Hossinator and Bella Rosa this year which we started from seed. Can't wait to compare them to some of our favorites. By far tomatoes are our favorite to grow in the garden. One of my favorite indeterminate varieties is Jet Star.

My favorite indeterminate tomato would be sunsugar. We grew it 2 years ago for the first time and will continue to plant 1-2 plants for ourselves. That’s plenty for the 2 of us. Plus we grow many determinate varieties. The old goat must like the smell of onions.

Great show! Always enjoy Pieter, even if he doesn't like mayo on his mater sammiches! Man, that Old Goat is tucked away tight in that onion braid!! Karrie must have been responsible for that! 😉🤣Congratulations to Margie and Lucinda for winning last week! Terrific, sponsored giveaways by Hoss and Monterey! Thanks guys! Looking forward to those 'Plus" series tomatoes hitting the markets. I'm a big fan of heirlooms and my head is hard enough so that I grow them every year, but last year really taught me some tough lessons! My favorite indeterminate is Brandywine, favorite Seminis hybrid variety indeterminate is Big Beef.

    I'm lucky to be here.
So we ( of all times in our lives when we needed the biggest garden plots we could like the past couple of years - because of the darn prices going up weekly / daily .
My husband was at my bedside in the hospital for weeks after work.
So we couldn't plant our 350 sweet onions like last year we bought from yall & potatoes .
    My granddaughters ages 10 & 9
Helped me start our tomatoes, peppers, etc, inside on heat mats.
But there is no plant sale this year .
Our family was raised on tomato sandwiches & dukes mayo

Great show tonight!!! Lots of good discussion on tomatoes. The old goat is getting super sneaky again. Guess he is happy the onion crops are starting to come in!!!! Looks like he is trying to decide which is better, red or yellow onions. For the Monterey give-a-way, I'm always partial to sun gold (I need to try sun sugar one year). As to the show... Yellow doll is also one of our favorite watermelons and I plant it every year now. Those smaller watermelons are also great for smaller gardens! I must confess, I only planted sun gold and sweet aperitif indeterminate varieties this spring. Last year my indeterminates did not set well due to the hot dry summer in Georgia, but I had better production from the modern hybrid determinates with the heat set gene. I did plant other types of determinate varieties however, again sticking with those types that perform well under hot conditions, have better disease resistance, and vigor. I'm giving up those monster 1 and 2 pound tomatoes for better performance if we have another hot summer as we have limited garden space. I'm trying something different with my indeterminates this year. I have hanging string spaced every 6" in a line above the plants, and will use tomato clips to just try to help keep the plants erect, including the suckers, pruning mainly to keep it in the bed area (not every sucker). As the plants grow, I do prune up to the first flower cluster as described in the discussion. Our determinates get the good ole Florida Weave and no suckering other than the lower branch pruning to help with disease control from splashed rain (I'm on sub-soil drip tape for other watering and fertilizer for all the raised beds). I normally snip a few determinate suckers around June 30th to start in pots in potting soil. Kept in a shady area, they quickly root and about the time the spring planting of determinates gives out, I have some nice "free" plants to replace them with for a late summer/early fall 2nd crop of tomatoes. Performance is not as good as they end up ripening under cooling conditions and ripen slowly, but it's a freebie plant cut from a sucker like that. I am trying Florida 91 for the first time this year, along with some prior favorites Red Snapper, Bella Rosa, Hossinator (of course!!!), Dixie Red, and Carolina Gold

My favorite indeterminate tomato is Pink Berkeley Tie Die. Grew it last year. Ohmygosh! With that first tomato I made an open faced tomato sandwich on homemade sourdough bread with just butter, a little onion, salt n pepper and a huge slab of Pink Berkeley. I think I lived on these all summer, but that first one…it brought back memories of one of my childhood friend’s mothers garden tomatoes that she made the same type of sandwich with. I did not like tomatoes before that and until I started growing my own tomatoes years ago, I have found store bought tomatoes just meh. I’d rather eat them in season. Balsamic is also a really good idea and something I’d love. I will give that a try!

I've only been successfully growing tomatoes - of any kind! - for the last year. I'm a new transplant to Florida (10A), from NYC (6B) suburbs, and the deer always got 'em before I could, up North. Last July, I started seeds. I didn't know what to grow here, so, I tried Indeterminates: Sungold - Sweet, but, the skin was too tough. - Indigo Sun: Purple and Yellow and SOOO sweet. And the skin was PERFECT! - Cherry Black? I think that's what it's called. That one was my favorite. Dark red with Purple shoulders. Perfect Cherry sized, and so earthy and sweet, I crave that one to come back! This year, I have a few volunteers that I'm wondering if they'll produce the same, but I doubt it. Then again, they're the tallest of my plants, nearly 3 feet high and flowering everywhere! I'm thinkin' I'm going to enjoy them no matter what!
Last year, I also grew some Chef's choice mix that only produced a couple of fruit, and they were all similar to the "Cherry Black". Dark shoulders, purple fruit, soooo yummy!! I'll miss them if they don't come back, but! I'm trying to grow San Marzano - for canning - Paul Robeson, 'cuz they're supposed to be yummy - Black Crim, Kellogg's Breakfast, and... a couple others I can't remember right now.
It's all an experiment for me and I'm always rewarded by anything that grows successfully in my new climate! The cuc's, the beans, the herbs, the flowers. I'm always thrilled when they announce that they're happy here by giving me food!
P.S. I LOVE your channel, and Travis' too. I get a LOT of valuable info from both of you, for which I am truly grateful. Keep on growing, cooking, and taking care of each other!
