The Interview That Goes Wrong with J.J. Abrams

I'm kind of amazed people don't get this. One of their other productions, Peter Pan goes Wrong was on the BBC in the UK over Christmas and was brilliant, with great reviews. They're something of a theatrical phenomenon here, given they had 3 productions in the West End at once and all selling great.
Everybody gets it, it's just not that funny. Maybe the play is better (I hope so) but slapstick exactly like this has been around for what, literally thousands of years?
millenials will not understand this kind of humour.
it's really unfunny, only if you're simple do you like it
Tbh judging from the fact it went from being played in a pub in london infront of 14 people, the the west end and now broadway, and the amount of money they have got from this, i dont think they would care if a few people on youtube comments know it all after having like an hour to come up with something for the show
paddy o'brien You Brits must be easily entertained....lol
if they could accomplish that in 4 minutes of a talk show, I can only imagine how epic the Broadway show is
Yehuda Litke this is nothing compared to the show, the actor doesn't get his foot stuck in a curtain but he almost got knocked out by a famous crest
The Play That Goes Wrong is AMAZING!! Nonstop laughter the second you sit in your seat for the show (you must go see it if you want to know what I mean). Saw it in London and I did not regret it!
are you FakeNews for the play? cuz it sure looks like it.
Vera Bozinovski what do you mean by that?
Search for Play That Goes Wrong Royal Variety on here, there's a clip that's about 10 minutes long that's an excerpt from the show. Enjoy ;D
I love how these guys literally embody the ideal of the show must go on, no matter what. Peter Pan goes wrong was phenomenal when I saw it on BBC.
I'm impressed with Fallon here. The one guy who practically could never get thru a single SNL sketch without breaking and laughing, he stayed pretty much straight faced thru this.
Bc it wasn't funny at all.
@@nicklackman7870 You have no sense of humour then.
@@cecilia8515 Good comedy takes time to write.
They didn't put much time into this because it's just an interview.
As a result it's hardly their best work.
@@alansmithee419 Why are you here watching this video then?
@@cecilia8515 I couldn't have known it wouldn't be as good as I'd hoped if I didn't watch it could I?
I have a complaint! I saw both Play That Goes Wrong and Comedy About a Bank Robbery and have internal injuries from laughing so hard! Incurable. This troupe is dangerously the best comedy available today!
okay but same, this may be disgusting to read, but when I saw the Play That Goes Wrong I almost threw up because i had just drank water and then a really funny thing happened.
My face actually hurt from laughing when I saw them on broadway. Lucky to see the original cast too
The first time I saw Mischief was in the Goes Wrong Show (the TV series - available to buy at some good streaming services). I laughed so hard that I inhaled a glacé cherry and nearly choked to death.
Each 'mishap' is perfectly executed. I had to rewatch and look closely on the snagged foot. Love the choreography. XD
The actress who played Mother/Housekeeper/Tinker Bell/Pirate in their version of Peter Pan was also incredible!
/Tiger Lily
She is called Nancy Zamit!!! She's iconic
Nancy Zamit. She's really talented
This is the best representation of how my life is.
js
Marcos Amparo lol sameeee
LOL. :-D
Totally
So totally fake?
People find these guys unfunny, but watch Jimmy Fallon...the irony
Omg, this comment
Omg, this comment
They probably dumbed it down so that Fallon would seem more funny.
They are from the goes wrong show in england
I find them funny. Found them funny ever since I saw a clip from Peter pan goes wrong back in maybe 2016.
whether you found this funny or not, you've got to admit they pull the stunts off brilliantly- really natural if you go back and rewatch it
You can tell how happy Jimmy is to be a part of their comedians genius. Not often does Jimmy get chances to do physical comedy like this anymore, usually he has to work it into his own skits. This was actually very funny and the fact that they got through so much chaos in only 4 minutes shows how amazing that play actually is.
They now have a TV show. The Goes Wrong Show is six half-hours and is airing on the BBC.
I'm going to see if that's available here in the US. I was supposed to see an American tour of Play that Goes Wrong, but the pandemic cancelled it.
Seven now as they have a Nativity episode that aired last Christmas
@@TheStephrules Make that 12 now!
I've had the pleasure of seeing three of their plays live (Peter pan goes wrong, the play that goes wrong and comedy about a bank robbery) and I swear that they are the most hilarious things I've experienced to date. After each one everyone who I saw it with was still talking about it months and even years after the show, still laughing hysterically whilst remembering it.
If you ever get the chance to see one, take it! It's an experience that you won't forget or reget
Have you seen their tv series which aired on the BBC
@@tedthepup641 I have indeed, just as amazing in my opinion
judging the title of the play and this interview, i can imagine how the play looks like LOL
funky homosapiens totally mess i guess
funky homosapiens stupid and a waste of money?
Ive seen the play on the west end. Its brilliant. Its a play about some people who are putting on a play. But everything goes wrong in the play. A lot of stuff happens. People get knocked out. The tech crew behind the scenes end up having to play parts in the show. Its fantastic. Though its whether a US audience will appreciate the extremely British humour of it all.
It would have to be... this was horrible.
Am I the only one finding this shit......well....shit
When Americans don't appreciate British humour
If this is British humor then....
Mr Wobbley British humor is so funny...omg...I laugh so hard when I watch British comedy
Mr Wobbley This was shotty british humor and completely unoriginal. The actors just weren't good, specialy the one that gets stuck in the curtain.
holy shit don't say that! This isn't british humour don't listen to this man. This is literally just slapstick
Wobbley, these guys are a poor imitation of what American comics did in the silent film era. It's called slap stick humor. You Limeys didn't invent it we Americans did....about 90 years ago!
Can we just bury the trolls from the top comments and appreciate they made this superb marketing effort. Now you know what to expect from that play, if you like it go watch it if you don't like this kind of comedy change your taste.
lol people... the point of the play is that the characters are bad actors
Au contraire, to play that bad in a play--intentionally--makes them good actors, actually.
@@johann1027 OP means that actors who are good actors are playing characters who are bad actors.
There good actors that play bad actors
Yes but here it's their real names not their personna
This sketch does not flatter the "goes wrong show" team that grew in popularity on BBC UK. You have to see their proper sketches to appreciate how clever it is put together.
one of the things that makes the "goes wrong" series so interesting is that the cast members never acknowledge that anything is going wrong. jimmy and jj didn't seem to grasp that concept as well as the pros in this skit.
being an actor for the stage, the amount of skill to be able to perform this is immense. this type of comedy has to be performed in perfect beats or else the comedy will not follow through and the audience will just get confused. many people praise the actors, BUT DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE CREW AND THE STAGE MANAGER IN THE BACK! i can just imagine all the calls the SM has to do in such perfect timing
British comedy is so much better than American Comedy
The only thing that makes this British comedy is the people doing it are from Britain. Its just a (kinda naff) slapstick routine for a phoney TV chat show. Mischief Theatre are usually so much better than this
Face-Fok Ltd. it’s british comedy at its best like a better version is fawlty towers.considering yanks create shows like American dad and South Park it’s ironic they aren’t amused by silly over the top comedy on a second rate talk show
Correct my boy. As an actual upper-class British person, I couldn't agree with you more! Jolly good!
People that don't understand this need to watch the play that goes wrong ASAP! Get educated guys 👏🏻
Everyone in America: What the actual heck did I just witness?!
Me in the UK: LIVING ROOM!, LIVING ROOM!, LIVing room, living room...
(People who have watched Series 1 of The Goes Wrong Show (BBC1) will understand)
ALL RISE!
Not that many hosts put this much effort into plugging someone's play.
When he asked "can you be a desk" and my man becomes a desk.
This is perfect! It's supposed to be awkward and awesome, and so is my life! I can relate to this!
Don't let this shitty show ruin the play for you - The Play That Goes Wrong is the funniest show I've seen live, the guys are true genius. Go see it when you can!
“So how’s life in quarantine?”
My life:
Saw the matinee on Broadway yesterday and never laughed so hard for two hours straight. This interview does them no justice.
Jj with the improv chops lol. The dissappointment in his face is palpable
I died when the guy hits Fallon's desk and the pens fly in the air
I know these guys all went to one of the UK's top drama schools and have had additional training so they can do as many stunts as possible themselves, but it still astonishes me with how at ease they are with throwing themselves around. The way Henry Shields kept crashing down the steps had me wincing for him.
I think this would've been funnier if it had been like the play where they try to ignore the problems and just carry out the interview as normal while also doing the crazy makeshift desk gag.
I saw The Play That Goes Wrong a couple of months ago in London and I almost fainted from laughing so hard. Easily the funniest thing I've ever seen in my entire life.
After seeing about this play on Fallon, my husband and I went to see it on a recent trip to New York. It was so funny! Well worth it and I would pay to watch it again!
Ditto. I had never heard of this until this appearance on Fallon, and then made a point to see it the next time I was visiting NYC. I just about fell out of my chair at intermission from laughing so hard.
Saw the show in previews in New York last week. Incredible. Laughed the entire time. Even before the show and intermission the show still goes on in some way. They have it so perfectly crafted and literally everything goes wrong. Go look up a little bit from when they performed at the British royal variety show to get a sense of what the first few minutes of the play are like
And when it actually goes wrong (as in, genuinely, not staged), then the play they're trying to put on goes right. That's the telltale sign!
Saw play that goes wrong and comedy about bank robbery. They're incredible, funniest group I've ever seen
2/10, not enough lens flares.
Watching it live is very different to watching online, if any of you get the chance to see this show live I assure you it's brilliant
one of the best programmed chaos-es ive seen. Cheers Jimmy.
This would've been effective if the audience was told that the play was about something entirely different. Actors come out and all this madness ensues and at the end, the gag is revealed to the audience. You can't announce the gag before you do the gag. It's breaking the 4th wall and has no shock value to the mind. Then it's just cringeworthy watching them try to outdo the last gag.
mak2488 That's what they do at the actual show. It's all set up to look like a small theatre company somehow attained a huge performance space and are putting on a murder mystery
seen the play that goes wrong is so amazing in the west end
They're amazing over here in UK! They've even got their own tv show! I've never laughed so much in a long time. They are legends in the making!
I have watched every single one of their plays and I do not regret it
JJ Abrams looks like Charlie Day's smart successful older brother
I've been huge fans of the mischief theatre company for several years and now look at my babies 😀😀😅
*i literally binged all of the stuff they've done on bbc iplayer this morning but i'm so triggered that peter pan isn't on there*
I saw it in London it's amazing I was dying of laughter the whole time!
I can't wait for the prequel to this interview. It should have way better effects.
Watch "Summer Once Again" These guys had me laughing for 25 minutes straight, it hurt!
And Jimmy didn't crack up. That's actually amazing!
The best part was that this is the least I've seen Fallon break in any skit!
Just saw The Play That Goes Wrong today! 👍😎👍 I highly recommend getting tickets now people, the show is gonna be hard to see come a few months!
The play is hilarious. I saw it recently when I was in New York and I laughed a lot, and I actually got to meet the actors after and ask them a couple questions. They were so kind and they have a lot of passion for theatre, and it showed in their performances.
i only watched the 10 minute version of the play that goes wrong and i fell so in love, i cANT WAIT TILL IT GOES ON BROADWAY
That was incredibly funny, it reminded me of the play when I saw it last Thursday but with a whole lot more fun. The actors are so nice, and their physical timing is just unbelievable
Wow, JJ is a cool dude for bringing them to the show.
Now that was very funny - the play that went wrong! 😂😂😂
this is the best thing ever pulled on a talk show
I’d say Jimmy had a ball playing with this when the idea was put to him 😃 What a trooper for making it happen & absolutely selling it 😎😄👌🏻
I'm so glad to see the writers of The Play That Goes Wrong in the U.S.! XD
1:07 is the trip, in case any of y'all just want to see the good part. lol.
The interviewer seemed to think it necessary to narrate what was happening, which was just distracting.
Jimmy keeps a tub of Ben & Jerrys at his desk 24/7
And his album Blow Your Pants Off
How do people not understand that this is what the guys do, Mischief Theatre is amazing and everything i have seen them do, especially the TV broadcasts are so funny and I am always laughing and this interview is no exception. Love these guys so much
I have seen all 3 of their shows, Hilarious doesn't even begin to cover it! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
I saw this on the West End when I was on a theatre trip for school late Dec. 2016/early Jan. 2017 and it was absolutely fantastic! I laughed so hard my stomach hurt and my face hurt from smiling so much. Then in February 2018, I got the chance to see the show again but in New York City. I still laughed like crazy and bought a script, so I'd definitely recommend seeing it!
If something actually goes wrong, no one will notice lmao
I saw the play that goes wrong a couple of years ago, and I'm still laughing now.
Having seen all their shows I can tell you for a fact you won't regret it. Get your tickets before they're gold dust!
Would be funnier if it wasn’t jimmy, Conan would of been better.
I thought that was actually hilarious
i have watched peter pan goes wrong more than 20x and i still laugh my ass off for the whole play straight
I've seen two of these plays;
The Play That Goes Wrong which is the funniest play I've ever seen.
The Comedy About a Bank Robbery which was also super hilarious!
Have seen the Play that goes wrong twice and was in tears laughing both times. Comedy about a bank robbery is amazing as well
Hopefully JJ Abram would reboot this Interview
This was hilarious! 😂😂
Peter Pan goes wrong is the best one
These guys are hilarious, I think it's Jummy Fallon that kinda ruined it by not being on their same level://
I just discovered them and can't get enough
The goes wrong show is the best thing in British comedy currently. Fantastic stuff.
Yo. "Arch your back" was funny as shit.
That introduction ruined it for me. Never introduce comics by saying how amazing they are... particularly comparing them to comedy greats. It's like Jerry Seinfeld said, all that happens is you end up with the audience going, "Oh, so they're real funny, huh? Sure they are, I'd like to see them pull that off." And the expectations are way off. You should have introduced them as if they were a serious interview about a serious play and let it unravel in the minds of the audience. Also, your video title ruins it as well. Again, should have been a serious title, so people are expecting something else.
The foundation of this bit is in the expectation that it's a serious interview. It loses its luster if you're expecting slapstick comics to do a routine.
Well yeah... Spoiler... But to others like me who aren't american or british, seing it all go downhill was funny in a WTF kind of way... I mean, I was expecting a serious interview as the show is quite serious when I do see it in Yt, so seeing it was funny especially how foolish they look like in the end was the punchline...
THIS IS INCREDIBLE
I'm really impressed that Jimmy didn't break during this.
Jimmy Fallon gets way too much crap. Sometimes people like corpsing, especially in the late-night venue. Negative folks just use it as a way to point out something wrong because they are looking to get the negative hot-take. Note that he fit in with their antics flawlessly (look at 3:02 as an example). I also thought he did pretty well in Band of Brothers. One of the highlights of recent late-night has been his impersonation of Neil Young, playing a duet with Neil Young himself.
I only see Dennis, Robert, and Chris. Who are these other guys Fallon mentions? ;-)
They did Peter Pan goes wrong like a panto. It was the best thing ever.
I saw the play 3 weeks ago,,,,,,,It's amazing ....... you must see this play. Great, great play ...
This is the most I’ve ever laughed at Jimmy Fallon!
That's the problem. We're laughing AT him, not with him.
this is the best skit ever
This will go down as a classic moment in Tonight Show's history! 😂
Me me big boy
flagged your channel instead
you're easy to please, huh
fetB lol...right!? or he's trying to get subscribers to his channel. lol
footytang FOOTYTANG😂😂😂😂😂
This play was brought in Greece by an Actor named Markos Seferlis! Man we laughed our asses off !😂
creative way to promote the play
Its going to be interesting to see how well this translates to a US audience. In the UK all 3 of their shows are massive hits. But because all the humour is extremely British it is anybodys guess how it will do on Broadway.
These guys are amazing, I went to watch comedy of a bank robbery and I never laughed so hard
i hope you bring these guys back on again!
The audience got kinda confused at the beginning if they were supposed to laugh at the mistakes. Once they got it, they loved it. We love our American cousins. As Wilde said, we have everything in common with Americans, except of couse, language 😀😀 and humour 😂😂
For the people who have weighed in just to say how much they disliked it - this is just a sample of the play. The play is actually longer (for those of you who have only ever been to cartoons and school Christmas pageants) and has a plot. It's not just a whole bunch of guys running around and tripping. There's a story in there, it's just things go wrong. I saw it in London, it's very funny. They do anther one at Christmas time "Peter Pan Goes Wrong" that I'd love to see. It's like a Christmas panto but...hmmm....maybe that is a bit to confusing for people who click on and watch things they don't like in the first place.
I am actually so impressed with Fallon for not breaking
Love these guys. An episode of their show, "The Lodge" is my favorite thing they've done so far.
It's cool they never broke character
