My taste testing of Jean Ellen mango didn't go promising. This is a below average mango to me. I couldn't find any flavor that is "somewhat similar to that of the Indian Kesar mango, and is in the Indian/West Indian-flavor group" as Alex at tropical Acres Farms had described it in his notes. He also found flavor of this cultivar under the category of Indian-Alphonso. A very ripe Sweet Tart or a Himsagar from Indian Subcontinent may compete with an Alphonso for sure.
"It was re-named Jean Ellen by Richard Campbell and promoted by Fairchild Tropical Garden as a curator's choice mango at the Mango Festival a number of times" which I don't know why!
Probably, my palate isn't primed enough and not ready yet for this unique, mild, piney majestic variety.

I wasn't impressed with Jo Ellen either. But then maybe we just didn't get a peak specimen?

Thanks for sharing your tasting experience as well. It’s difficult to judge some cultivars off a single mango, for sure.
