Good Afternoon. I have 3 purchased grafted Mango trees which I have purchased from our local Plant Nursery. A Carrie, Coconut Cream & Peach Cobbler. Carrie is the Oldest at 4 years of age & she is almost 10ft tall & has fruited already, purchased her in a 3 gal container & recently the other 2 varieties. The Coconut Cream & Peach Cobbler are at an estimated 4ft tall. We live in Zone 9B SW Florida. I also recently have grown FROM SEED after eating an Ataulfo Mexican Mango & Hayden (or what I believe it to be being so Fushia & Yellow in skin color). These were 2 delicious, incredible Mangos that I just had to grow.. My Ataulfo is 3.5 ft tall & the Hayen is 8ft & strong. I am being told now that I should cut them down, because it would be "POT LUCK", to see what kind of fruit if any would grow from it. I was sadden to hear that, but I would like to graft on the Strong 8ft tree, that is cropped beautifully. I would love to create, a Cocktail Style of a tree with part of the Carrie, Coconut & possibly the Ataulfo, but that was from see. Can you please help guide me in the right direction as my trees are so beautiful the from seed. Not looking for an Ornamental tree, we would love Fruit from it....Thank You So Very Much, Maria.....
CUCHIE68 it will eventually fruit but you can't guarantee what you get, just like a kid. You could graft a cocktail tree but that's definitely not the preferred root stock and each mango has its own growth habits. Controlling vigor and growth would probably be quite difficult. That's a tough choice, maybe wait to see the fruit.
I'm growing a Mango orchard in India for over 20 years and was afraid to cut down the branches and slowly over a period of time my yields have dropped drastically. Ours is a semi arid area in Telangana state and I let my mangoes ripen on the trees. I don't use any sort of chemical inputs and use only cow manure and urine. My trees have started to recover and those trees which have been somewhat pruned have many big fruits on them. So I'm encouraged and learnt lots from Dr Campbell and have started heavy pruning on my old unproductive trees. Many of my mangoes don't fruit every year. Would like to know if same is the case over there in Florida.
You mentioned Mango Root pruning for a month. What does this entail? Also is there any resources for growing mangos for those of us who live in Southern California? For example soil is like concrete when dry and slippery and mushy when wet. I live in Visita, California. Obrigado.

I don’t think you’ll catch Dr Cambell in this comment thread. He is the man! I wound never bury any of the tree or graft. In my experience that’s the biggest failure of new plantings.

Subbed 👍 I need help. I have grown 2 mango trees in my Earth Box in my Lanai..from seeds. One is over 2ft..the other is over 3ft. Both just have stem each..loaded with leaves. I wanted to plant outside, but concerned..I’ll kill them. I’ve noticed the North West side of my house seems very good..for growing as I’ve grown green peppers 🌶 with no problem. Do you suggest..transplanting into a large bucket, or pot..and just keep inside? Also eventually graft one from the other one? I live in Central Florida..Kissimmee,Fl. It is now May 18, 2020 I really need to transplant these trees..in order to get them to fill out and to even get a trunk rather then stems..filled with leaves. Thanks so much for the educational video! We started growing a mango tree from a seed in the West half of NC. Because of the chilly winters it's been growing in pots/large tub so I can keep it inside during the winter. We almost ended up with a stunted tree but thankfully I moved it into a big tub in time and it's back to flourishing - I hope! I haven't done anything special...just organic banana peels and organic egg shells mixed in a couple times a year. I would love to send you a few photos and get your feedback on what stage we're in and what have you if you have a minute...if it's ok to get your email? This is our 1st mango, knew nothing about growing them, and it's the only plant that's survived my black thumb past 2 years so I'm very protective over it. Thank you :)
I used turface a little as a bonsai medium but over time it softened into a thick clay goop, and was not stable long term. Be careful using that to fill air pockets.
I have a tree grown from seed and unfortunatelly the mangos are turpentine tasting. Is it possible to graft another mago to it to get better tasting mangoes or should i just cut it down and start over with a grafted tree?
I apologize if this was asked already but I don’t see that it has. I am confused a little on the topic of how early to allow my mango trees to fruit? I have 3. One has very poor vigor so I won’t let that one fruit. The two others flush out 3-6 times per year. Once I saw this video earlier this season I began tipping. One of the two with good vigor stands about belly button height and is just now throwing it’s first blossoms. I only bought and planted this ‘Fruit Punch’ this past spring in my zone 10a garden. It flushed 3 times since I put it in the ground. Should I let it try to fruit or should I remove the fruit at Pea size?
If the tree is too small, it could cause the tree to become stunted. Cutting the small, pea-sized fruits once formed can increase the vigor for the next year and then it should be fine to allow the tree to fruit

Hey I’m guessing you know this bc you are the master, But I saw my ex one time bite into a mango that I had cut in half before I cut the squares and flipped it inside out to eat he just fit right into it -skin and all.... I was like “no what are you doing?!!! Don’t eat the skin!!” Then I actually looked into it and lake most fruits and vegetables a lot of the nutrients are in the skin and some of the mangoes I bought are way too tough to eat the skin but I always wash them really good and if it’s tender enough I just eat it it’s actually not even bad at all but people just normally don’t and I had never tried it until heated and I researched it now I eat the skin all the time and less it’s just happens to be tough. I heard about the stop bothering people but I’ve never had it affect me and also I don’t think it’s on the skin so much is just the stem/maybe seed.... if I’m not mistaken...? Omg those look toooo good!...i would work for mangoes 😍LOL ...for real though I think I would
Mangoes are related to poison ivy. I never get near the skin or I severely break out and swell up. I’ve heard of people eating it in other countries but that’s not for everyone. There is also a huge difference between a grocery store mango and home grown.
This is the third of your videos about mangoes that I've watched, and I love them. Your no nonsense, straightforward presentation is very refreshing on RUclips. I'm very impressed with your orchard! I've been living in the Philippines since 2015, and spent 18 months living and working in India before that. I was so disappointed with the mangoes in India. The favourite type there tasted like mouldy cheese to me! It was a long, slender yellow fruit. I tried about eight varieties, and only one was similar to the mangoes I'd eaten growing up in Australia. Now in the Philippines there are more of the sweet mangoes that I like, but they also grow another variety which they pick green and pickle, and eat on a stick. Definitely not to my taste!

Lourdes MacDonald flush is when the tree puts out new leaves.
Flush when mango puts a new set of leaves, mango usually leaves in flushes, like multiple leaves at the same time
hi... you should try the sweet mango in the world called “HARUM MANIS” from Perlis, Malaysia. Only soil from Perlis give good mango variety...

They seem to be planted fairly close. How many meters apart are most of them?
Jason Burke this is a high intensity planting with 7-9ft spacing. These trees require regular pruning to maintain the system.

Yes, I would graft onto that as a root stock. You would hard prune and top work the tree. I’ll be making an updated grafting video this weekend.
