Excellent video, Popcorn. I’m just now attempting to get into single action shooting. I bought my first SAA clone and holster yesterday and have a rifle on order. I appreciate how well planned your video was. Concise but full of great info. I’m headed to our local metal yard tomorrow morning to start assembling my target set up. Thank you!
Razorback Red here. Just found this and am planning on a small practice range on my property. Thanks for some good ideas. How are those shotgun clay holders holding up?
Razorback Red. This setup still works really well. Very easy to setup and tear down. In terms of the shotgun holders, they hold up remarkably well. Like the old Timex ads, they take a licking and keep on ticking.
Plus, the best part is that if any individual part gets worn, e.g., the clay holder, 2x4 cross supports, or conduit leg, or clay holders they are inexpensive and easily replaceable. Having said that, I'm still shooting with all my original parts.
Great info Popcorn. I've enjoyed your video's. I may run into you sometime at Milan. I would like to know where you got your targets and target hangars. That's a good setup.
Bob, I purchased the steel from Rich's Metals in west Davenport and ordered the hangers and shotgun perch on Amazon. I am also a new SASS shooter. I am building my own range on my property and this target set up that you showed looks like it would would work for me too! Did you order (buy) the hanging assemblies/bracket or did you have them made along with your targets? Thanks for a great video and the help that it provided. Happy Trails!
I found everything on Amazon when I set mine up. However, I just had trouble finding the same thing. Here is a website I found just now (3/28/2024) for the leg brackets: www.atlastargetworks.com/products/ar500-diy-gong-hanger Here is a site for the hooks. ar500steel-targets.com/product/2x4-target-hanger-3/ You may have to call them to inquire about different lengths.
Yep, exactly. This setup helps me do just that, focus on specific things a few times in a row. While I like practicing full stages, I find it useful to focus on, for example, pulling my first pistol, getting on target, firing, holstering pistol #1, then moving to my second pistol - and doing this over and over. Same thing applies going from pistol to rifle, etc. I don't get this concentrated practice when shooting full stages. This has helped a lot.

Thanks. This set up certainly works well for me. Good luck on your new hobby. I'm enjoying it and am sure you will as well.
How well does the clay pidgeon holders hold up over time? Wondering if the shot chews them up any?
They've held up very, very well. I have never replaced them, but I've not shot it for a while. However,, they're suprisingly resistant.

@@PopcornKelly anyway you could send me the link? Or I could start searching for them on Amazon. Thanks!
Where do you get the 2x4 brackets and hooks?

Just need a timer, and work a bit on transitions (we all do).
