- The Walt Disney Company has announced this week that their physical media distribution will no longer be through Buena Vista Home Video, but through Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (but still using the Walt Disney Home Entertainment brand), no doubt because things have still been going rough for Disney. They're also shutting down the Disney Movie Club as part of it. So of course, the Big Bad Wolf gets in a vlog about that subject, also giving a brief history of Walt Disney Home Video in the process.

That was very informative and perfect for those into home media history like me. Physical media just isn’t what it used to be.
Physical media has plenty of advantages over digital media. Streaming services can take down certain movies whenever they want. This is similar to how your favorite shows will leave your local station after their run on syndication ends, So unless you have cable, you're left with finding home video releases of those shows, and movies out in the wild. Also, A movie you've watched on HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, or The Movie Channel will only run for A month. Then it's removed from the schedule until who knows when. Something else that physical media offers that big companies that own animation studios don't realize is that aspiring artists learn how to draw from physical media. Particularly on DVDs, and Blu Rays. Sure, some have used VHS, but the image quality doesn't look very good when you pause the tape, or run it in slow motion. (And VCRs don't keep the tape paused for very long.) Now I do admit to owning some digital media, but from iTunes because those files can be opened in Quicktime from the iTunes media folder. So at least it's not like VUDU, which is pretty much A streaming platform from what I've gathered.
I’d also like to point out that starting in 2007 and ending in 2017, Hit Entertainment would do a similar thing with their DVDS with their Auto Play feature, which is basically a copy cat to Disney’s Fast Play.
I left off with great memories since I've grown up watching classic VHS tapes older than me in the dawn of 2000s.
12:56 True that the Future-Funk-fan favorite Sailor Moon had her first home video release under DiC Toon Time video brand during the production time of some DiC dubbed Sailor Meatball Head.
15:59 Certain game consoles like PS2 to PS5 use DVDs to play as well.
Them making these sorts of decisions is beyond belief.
I can't believe this just happened the other day! (btw ever thought of doing a read-along video on the Muppets take Manhattan for the film's 40th Anniversary this year?!)
As a matter of fact, I am!
40th anniversary of that film? Oh right. That's this July.
11:07 😂 I couldn't help but laugh at that part, because that competition turned out to be an instance of sibling rivalry my sister and I went through when both of us were nine and almost eight respectively. The situation involved arguing what movie to see first over the weekend, which had to be settled by picking out the desired title from a tupperware container. I ended up getting the last laugh, meaning my sister had to wait a full day to get her Anastasia fix! Now I know why I laugh hysterically when I look back at that memory, which could be why that trope is often played for laughs, because that happens to be the subject of this AFV package:

This is heartbreaking.
*stares at copy of Snow White Platinum edition DVD* sigh…
We will miss Walt Disney home entertainment.
Oh, Walt Disney Home Entertainment will still be around. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will just be their distributor.
@@ZakWolf Yeah, & Buena Vista Home Entertainment will be defunct soon.
@@ZakWolf Why do I get the feeling they'll buy out Sony just so Marvel can get back Spider-Man, and his supporting characters.
Awesome video keep up the good work!
That’s so heartbreaking 💔.
Walt Disney Home Video/Entertainment, we salute you.
If physical media ever goes extinct, hopefully there still won’t be people without strong enough Internet for streaming, especially if TV networks stop airing family movies at prime time on Friday or Saturday nights on a regular basis and non-streaming kids would be stuck with the same small selection of DVDs over and over.
With an all digital future, all it takes is a simple tax write off or removal from digital downloads to lock future generations out of content without a physical media release.
Oh, Walt Disney Home Video will still be around. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will just be their distributor.
@@ZakWolf I'm old enough to remember Fotomat, but I never knew you could rent videos from them. Otherwise, I would've rented 'The Secret Of The Sword', or Magic Window's 'Heathcliff' videos if they carried them.
What about The Rescuers Down Under on VHS or DVD?
The decision making up there at Disney is way beyond belief and evil.
9:36 This must've been inspired from the moment at the 3:40 mark of the Rocko's Modern Life episode "Spitballs," which involved attending a baseball game. That's a trope I sometimes get a kick out of, even if it might involve shadiness.
R.I.P. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment (1980-2024) so Yeah.
Walt Disney Home Entertainment will still be around. They're just going to be distributed through Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, similar to the very first Disney laserdiscs from WDHE being released through MCA DiscoVision.
@@ZakWolfAnd later LaserVision, then Image Entertainment.
The Walt Disney Home Videos I remember having were Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs, Walt Disney Cartoon Classics: Chip N' Dale, Peter & The Wolf, Winnie The Pooh: Storybook Classics, The New Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh, 4 Videos in the Winnie The Pooh Friendship Collection, 2 Videos in the Winnie The Pooh Playtime Collection, 1 Video in the Winnie The Pooh Learning Collection, The Lion King, 2 Videos in the Disney Sing Along Songs Collection, Pinocchio, A Goofy Movie, Finding Nemo, Brother Bear, Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed In At The House Of Mouse, Beauty And The Beast: The Enchanted Christmas, Winnie The Pooh: A Very Merry Pooh Year, Pooh's Grand Adventure: The Search For Christopher Robin, The Tigger Movie, Winnie The Pooh And Christmas Too, The Santa Clause 2, Pocahontas, Cinderella, Spot, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure, The 1996 Live Action Version of 101 Dalmatians and The Lion King 1 1/2. 1 Disney DVD I remember having was Winnie The Pooh: Seasons Of Giving. I also remember having 2 VHS Tapes in The Adventures Of Rocky And Bullwinkle Collection
2 other Walt Disney Home Videos I remember having were Bambi and Lady And The Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure
What Walt Disney Home Videos do You Remember having?
I'll never forget the times i had the Masterpiece collection Tapes growing up. It's crazy to think now Sony Pictures will handle another studio's physical media department. The same Sony Pictures that got Disney to collaborate with sony to allow Their spider-verse movies onto Disney+.
Such a shame that Buena Vista Home Video is no more. Also, I'm sure you've heard the news that despite the people speaking out, Warner Bros. Discovery still went ahead with deleting "Coyote vs. Acme".
It's unknown if "Coyote vs. ACME" was part of WB Discovery's latest $115 million tax write-down, but I have a nasty feeling it is. And if it has been deleted, David Zaslav is going to be facing a BIG lawsuit pretty soon.
@@ZakWolf I'll say.
I wonder if some of the DMC exclusive titles will be released in stores soon (especially A Goofy Movie (my all time favorite Disney film)).
I have to admit, A Goofy Movie is far better than Pocahontas, but still nowhere near as good as The Lion King.
@@BKDBrian2 I actually think it’s better than The lion King. In fact, in my personal opinion, I say A Goofy Movie is the best Disney movie ever.
I respect your opinion about A Goofy Movie in spite of the fact that it's one of the lesser known Disney films.
@@BKDBrian2 It was a lesser known film for a while, but the movie has been getting very popular lately.
What about The Big Bad Wolf’s history vlog on Marvel and The Muppets going into a war between Disney and Sony?
It is worth noting because I heard Morbius is coming to stream on Disney+.
I hope I bet there's going to be Disney plus still here for streaming service in the future
Disney Movie Club and Walt Disney home video will be discontinued would be go away
R i.p. Walt Disney studio Home entertainment
1978-2024.
Let's not forget Fantasia (1940, Disney) and So Dear to My Heart (1948, Disney).😢😓
SORRY Zak wolf! NO LIKE'S FOR YOU THIS YEAR!!!
Excuse me but please, I need your help to update the elgato drivers. Can you help me how to update them please?
What operating system are you using? And is it for the Elgato Video Capture?
Yes. And I’m using windows 11. I’m just wondering why it won’t work in windows 11 too.
@@filipzebic6712, I think I found some directions to bypass the error:
1. Make sure Video Capture application is closed.
2. Find "settings.xml" file within \AppData\Roaming\Elgato\VideoCapture
3. Open "settings.xml" file with text editor (ex. notepad++)
4. Use "ctrl-f" to find the phrase "forceyuy2", change value from "false" (default) to "true", then save changes to the file.
Then try opening Video Capture. It should be working again.
Thanks. There was this pop message saying about USB when I first plugged in my windows 11 laptop, it’s saying about the USB will never work and connected again if I risk it. And then second time it was ok. It’s just plugging USB connection that I’m worried about. BTW, thanks for the guidance. I’ll let you know if there’s any more problems.👍
BTW, will USB be safe and secured when I use Elgato Video Capture in Windows 10 too, without a pop up error messages? Just worried and wondering.
