      This is exactly what I said in the comments for the video about the Caruso trade. Having GIddey for Caruso didn't make a lot of sense, but without picks it was just completely unfathomable. The Thunder have basically so many picks, they can afford to blow one of them on loading off Giddey that held this team down.
      Getting a really good defensive player for him was basically unheard of value, they could have waived him to become better, but now they got one of the best defensive guards in the league that isn't bad on other stuff either.
      I don't understand how this team, that basically had a ton of draft luck already, keep getting so many awesome deals that make no sense. It is almost unfair to the NBA itself.

      1 or 2 years ago was 2022 or 2023. They got Caruso, DeRozan and Ball in the 2021 offseason. So they should've given up after 1 year? after 6 years of rebuilding (after trading Jimmy Butler in 2017), they should've given up after 1 year? What the bulls should've done was NOT go after DeRozan in the first place and instead go for a playmaking Small Forward, instead of Playing DeRozan out of position...then maybe Balls' injury wouldn't have set us back so much.

    (1) I understand if people don't buy into Giddey as a player and critique the trade for that reason, but Caruso is 30 and is replacement level on offense. It was either Giddey or trade him for a first and a second or a first and a rotation player. Caruso was not getting more than the Celtics got for Marcus Smart (even if maybe he should have). I think that Giddey, given his age and quality of play just a season ago is a decent pickup. He is a lottery value player with known limitations.
    (2) The Derozan deal was a sign and trade where we could have gotten nothing. Getting two second rounders is solid. The Bulls had no leverage.
    (3) At this point I wonder if it would be better to just keep Vuc until the season starts. He can score a bunch of empty points in losses and we can get better value from a desperate contender. Lavine needs to go, however...if anyone will take him.

    • @Sqeaky6969
      @Sqeaky6969 3 месяца назад +3

      As for 2 what i find funny is the spurs had no leverage yet somehow got the most out of this deal. Taking Harrison Barnes on actually helps the team as a vet and another reliable scoring option and he's a positive defender, to get a pick as good as the one the kings gave up and with no protections is crazy

    • @michaelcarrig627
      @michaelcarrig627 3 месяца назад

      @@Sqeaky6969 I think Sac were making space for Derozan and someone had to take on a contract. So the Spurs picked up a solid guy. It was less leverage than positioning.

    • @Herzeder
      @Herzeder 3 месяца назад

      The GSW proposed a deal of Trayce Jackson-Davis, Moses Moody and a first round pick to get Caruso. Moses Moody is the same age as Giddey and as already proven that he can be a decent 3&D player at the minimum, Trayce Jackson-Davis ceiling might be a bit low but he'll probably have quite a long career as a bench big-man. That's only one exemple of the kind of deals the Bulls refused.
      Choosing Giddey is a gamble. Can a non-shooting, non-defending, average finisher and ball-handler point forward who has not improve since his rookie year (when he was putting empty stats on a tanking team) be a real building block for the future ? Like do you want to put the ball in the hand of a guy who's nothing more than an above average passer ?

    • @michaelcarrig627
      @michaelcarrig627 3 месяца назад

      @@Herzeder It depends entirely on how you value Giddey. Is he the equivalent of a top 5 pick as he looked a year ago, or can he not play on a playoff roster like last season. The trade was determined by the former valuation.
      I have not watched Giddey enough to have an informed opinion. He clearly has size, is young, can pass, get to the basket a bit, and rebound well for his position. His youth gives some hope that he can improve as a defender. Is Moses Moody and a first be more valuable than Giddey? Quite possibly, but only time will tell.
      I am simply saying that we weren't getting a first out of OKC while still getting Giddey. And had Giddey played more like the season before last, he would have likely gotten OKC a first looking at the Deni Avdija trade.

    • @Herzeder
      @Herzeder 3 месяца назад

      @@michaelcarrig627 He never looked like a top 5 pick, never, he wasn't not even one of the 6 guys who got some ROTY votes in 22. He was pretty good as a rookie tho, but he was just putting empty numbers in a tanking team, that doesnt mean much.
      He is a decent passer even tho he loose a lot of balls because he doesnt have great handle, but he's clearly not that good at finishing at the basket (below league average in efficiency at the rim) and he rebounds decently mostly because he played a lot of minutes without a bigman, he's just a tall dude catching defensive boards. He'll not improve as a defender, he is too slow for the guards and too "weak" (for a lack of a better term) to guard forwards + he has not hustle instinct.
      I'm pretty sure you could have get a first out of OKC, or at least a couple of seconds. I'm pretty sure Giddey will be out of the league in a few years. You all are just blinded by his rookie year, you're blinded by stats put up in a tanking season. A guy who can only pass doesnt have a place in the league, even if he's absolutely elite at it, and Giddey isn't even an elite passer.

    It really makes you think where the Bulls would be now if they hadn't been so stubborn about rebuilding. Like why now? Nothing's really better or worse than it was. If they'd done this back when Lonzo had his first long patch out they could've still gotten a Ben Simmons style return on a guy that used to be good and people expected to come back eventually, but now he's worth nothing as no one expects him back. Back then Lavine would've been worth something big, Derozan would've been worth more than he got now and while you'd not get much for Vucevic, you'd get less now. They could've got some real good trade pieces and picks going into a couple of really strong years of the draft.

      he is for sure gonna get better. the issue is that the league is moving away from slow guys with short arms who cant defend and cant shoot and AK loves these types of players.
      thats what i hate about AK. he simply fails to acknowledge what the league is. he thinks this is the year 2000 and you can "teach" people to play defense and get away with mid range scoring. you cant anymore.
      there is too much space for slow guys like giddy to cover.
      AK refuses to acknowledge that we are in the "five out" era. players have to shoot and defend the perimeter. giddy cant do either. nor could demar; nor can zach; nor can vuc; nor can buzelis. i can go on and on. thats why teams dont want any of these players for all their 1 on 1 scoring wizardry.
      We were the team of jordan, pippen and rodman & Phil.
      now, we are suppose to believe in josh giddy. lol. he is a back up (if that) in the modern NBA.
      The only way he succeeds as a starter is if he ends up on a team with Wemby, jason taytum and jalen brown. but then again, what NBA couldnt succeed with those type of players hiding your flaws?

    The only good thing to come out of this recent Bulls era are Alex Caruso proving to be worth a good contract more than anything and DeMar DeRozan showing how much of a valuable asset you can be, even as a player that is basically playing an older style of basketball. I followed the bulls for a while, because Lonzo went there and I really thought it was interesting what was going on there, but this whole era, that started with the Vucevic trade, basically went nowhere on account of injury on the defensive talent and the offensive talent not being good enough on the defensive end. Also, considering Lonzo was by far the best playmaker and out, there was a dirth of playmaking that could not be overcome by DeRozan alone.
    DeRozan basically was not at fault in this, he played his ass off and deserved all the accolades he got and probably a few more. I know of tons of basketball content creators that begrudgingly admitted that he was still a really good player in that first year or two. Even now, I think if anyone can offer a different look for Sacremento, it is DeMar. The Pelicans had some talks with them about Ingram, but since the Kings basically have nothing they need (a center basically) that blew over and they got DeRozan instead. This will maybe get them over the hump to get them in the playoffs again, it also offers a new angle of attack that the team didn't have. And while he certainly isn't a good defensive player, with the average on Sacremento being so offensive slanted, he will not bring their defense further down. He might be landing about where Barnes was, the 4th or 5th best defensive player on the team.
