Something I appreciate about Endymion's "lore" is that whether he's good or evil is up for debate. On one hand, his project to crystalise magic, letting even people with next to no aptitude for it use it is a net positive. And he actively regulates it to make sure noone with more malicius intentions misuses it. But at the same time, you could argue that the authority went to his head and that raiding what was basically a magical university who's only crime was teaching magic indiscriminately instead of, I dunno, forming some sort of commitee or governing body to weed out the bad apples, really shows how, for better and for worse, he doesn't trust anyone but himself with this knowledge. Its basically a question of whether you think things would be worse *without* Endymion and , in my opinion, most definetly.
I think it's not really that deep honestly, i think that the raid happened because aleister is the fuel for the accademy so it was more of a "First of fuck you aleister, second oh god aleister is teaching them how to use invokations to spawn monsters from hell, I don't like that"

@@HazmatSamThe tank Aleister is in is slowly undoing his corrupted transformation, and the card is titled "Crowley, the FIRST Propheseer", implying that he actually founded the tower before embarking on his villain arc, and the Tower administration are seeking to restore him in the aftermath.
I think my favorite part of the 'lore' of this set is how they are almost certainly CLOSELY connected to YUGI's monsters, and the Dark Magician in particular. I mean, the dark magical circle is ALL over the place in the card BGs (including seemingly ringing the Magical Citadel itself multiple times), the Skilled Magicians are each tied to one of Yugi's five most iconic monsters while ALSO clearly being part of the Magical Citadel via their use of Spell Counters and Power Stones, Crusader looks a LOT like a Dark Magician cosplay while also sporting a potential 2500 ATK, the list goes on. Like I wouldn't be surprised if we got some lore reveal that Dark Magician was closely involved in the creation of the Magical Citadel and/or Endymion's creation of Spell Counters.
It's actually theorized now that witchcrafters, Endymion, magistus, and the "magicians" are all in the same universe lore wise. With all of the small details you mentioned plus some others makes it pretty plausible
Endymion, the Master Magician is the entire reason why I was the most hated man at my high school Yugi-Group. I got Spellcaster's Command for my birthday and made it everyone else's playground problem
I still uphold the theory that Endymion and Selene are the parents of Dark Magician, who rejected his father's controlling tendencies and ran away to explore the true depths of magic without parental supervision, inspiring a bunch of talented apprentices of his own to join him. This would lead to the Dark Magician Girl club, Illusion Apprentice Magician, Breaker, Magician of Dark Chaos, and several others, to spread out over time, forging bonds with other groups like the Blue Eyes tribe, Buster Blader, and the Legendary Knights.
This archetype will always hold a special place in my heart. Original Endymion was my schoolyard boss monster back in the day and when I got back into YuGiOh in 2020, one of the first decks I built (and which helped me understand Pendulums) was a pure Endymion deck. Hell, I can recite Mighty Master of Magic’s entire text from memory.
My founding holy magical king of the spellcasters Endymion was based and counter-pilled for storming the spellbook tower. There is a reason why Aleister got locked in the basement and their lack of regulation caused the whole Fool of Prophecy disaster. That along with Zoroa’s betrayal, you can’t blame the man for wanting to put restrictions on magic for the sake of the world and for the sake of spellcasters, who were already feared for their powers. Sure, he could have been more chill, maybe do a vote or have a civil convo but considering how all four of the magistus were acquaintances I’m sure those talks happened before, and that mechaba merchant didn’t want to listen obviously, so his institution had to face a six negate Endymion board irl. Remember, Endy was on board with everyone learning magic through his power stones until they started acting out of turn. They did it to themselves.

"Seh-LEH-neh" is the Greek pronunciation as Greek doesn't have a silent E while English does. Serene/serenity has Latin roots but that connection is more a quirk of Japanese linguistics. Sailor Moon references the same myth as she and Tuxedo Mask's past lives were Queen Serenity and Prince Endymion.

You're overstating the situation. He continued his project to allow anyone to use magic, but due to the bad experiences of certain individuals wielding it, he concluded that it must he regulated and managed carefully, thus he nationalized it. He has become overzealous in the extent to which he prevents magic from falling into the wrong hands, but he's not oppressing the people.
Slight correction since im an Endymion fanboy: My guy is pretty socialist policy wise! See, in general, that makes for a pretty good narrative. But when Endymion decided launching an assault against a learning institute was the best way to help regulate widespread magical usage instead of petitioning some kind of joint-oversight committee, I start to think the guy may be a WEE bit tyrannical!

I think the “1000 or More ATK” cause is to prevent it from searcher “Forbidden One” cards. Add searchers essential have to tip-toe around that 5-Card instance win. That why we can’t have a “Reinforcement Of The Army” equivalent for Spellcasters.
Endymion is brother's favorite archetype. With Invoked being one of my favorites. We both honestly hope that Konami makes the Magical Nations lore into an anime
I feel like Endymion would be played randomly in Arc-V S1 by some random character (maybe even as 1 of Sylvio's decks) and doesn't do anything but is crazy irl.
The unfortunate downside of Medusa's revive is that it kinda sucks if you're running mostly or entirely Pendulums as your maindeck monsters, since those (usually) won't be going to the GY for Medusa to revive them. That leaves the Extra Deck monsters, and I guess you can use it on the couple of Spell Counter Links, but those lose a lot of utility if thrown into an MMZ. Really, your best options are the Synchros like Tempest Magician (RIP) or... Arcanite Magician is probably still my favorite card in the game, ever since I got facerolled by it when playing Over the Nexus. It's kinda wild how it's changed in usefulness, though. Originally, you could build up into a kind of boss if you had ways to keep plopping counters onto it, since it gains a massive 1000 ATK for each one; it didn't even need to shed its own to pop opponents' cards, since it can take counters from your whole field. Nowadays, it's much more disposable due to its lack of any protection, but being able to pop as many cards as you have counters to burn still comes in handy, and it can be a cheeky thing to revive off Selene sometimes. I'd still like to see a new form of it in the future, even if it's just to see how much bigger its armor will get (or, ideally, to get a better look at what's underneath than what Assault Overload shows us).
35:40 For me, I use Kai-Den Kendo Spirit when i want my deck to have a 9 scale for Master Cerberus. It even goes back to the hand after pendulum summoning so you can put it or another pendulum on the scale again to supply more counters.
For some reason, I wanted to try out this deck a couple of months ago in MD. Man, it was so fun (when the opponent didn't have anti-spell or shifter). Honestly surprised there was no mention of astrograph sorcerer. 12:30 I love this part so much.

Endymion lore is interesting because the only organized group in the endymion universe we haven't seen regularly perform magic that's either immoral or dangerous are the Witchcrafters, so you can see why "oi mate, you got a loicense for that magic?" is a perfectly reasonable stance to have. (and as for the Wtichcrafters, let's be honest: Verre is grossly irresponsible so...) The invasion of la Maison is where it gets iffy because trapping Aleister in the basement as a magical battery would be a good enough example of immoral magic to liquidate them, but we don't know if Endymion was even aware of that or if he just wanted to shut them down for aforementioned loicensing reasons.
So you admit Endymion's use of magic is immoral and/or dangerous but you think that gross oversimplification is reasonable. Also that comment on Verre is circular logic that assumes everyone must have a strong man dictator.

As for the Verre situation, you certainly free to give an alternate interpretation of what happened in Witchcrafter Confusion and its aftermath besides "Verre randomly abandoned her comrades with no warning" but I cannot imagine what that interpretation would be. Me, I hold that the events are what they appear to be and that that Verre can be fairly characterised as "irresponsible." Finally, if, as you seem to imply, you believe that responsible leadership necessarily requires dictatorship, I'd advise you to de-Americanize yourself.

Once tried (keyword: TRIED) reading a fanfic where the MC for it had an Endymion deck. It was good… until Battle City where several characters don’t act like themselves and we get introduced to more multiversal shenanigans IN THE MIDDLE OF BATTLE CITY BEFORE THE FINALS. I had to drop it after that because of the out of character moments, random plots that get thrown, duel scripting to even the breaking of the lore of how the cards were created (I.e Synchro, Xyz, Pendulum and Link monsters were printed by Pegasus years in advanced despite Kaiba being responsible for Synchros, Yusei for Xyz, and Yuya for Pendulums. Oh- and the MC gets a Millennium Item despite not having an Egyptian past). But I loved his (first) Endymion deck.

They're a love couple afaik. I remember their name in Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon is Serenity (Selene) comes from moon, and Tuxedo Mask is Endymion comes from Earth

Iirc they are together. Endymion reached the point he is at through good intentions of wanting to open up the benefits of magic to the common man, while preventing madmen from doing irreparable damage to the world. He's not doing a bad job per say either, just overstepped his bounds recently.
When i was a kid, my starter deck didn’t come with the field spell, but I did get a test card, which really confused me. Also meant I couldn’t summon Endimyion…
It very strange cuz in early year mainly synchro era it hard to summon it despite it release while everyone still play synchro cards alongside fusion cards.
Actually "seh-LEH-neh" is a more accurate pronunciation especially in Hades as that's the Greek pronunciation. The more commonly heard "suh-LEEN" is due to the English silent E as Greek doesn't have this phoneme.

Rouge is completely justifiable cause it's a Lv 3 . To search and use spell card same turn is not possible on a Lv 3 bro . They would never put this effect on a stronger monster with more resources to summon cause it will be broken in the future and banned 🚫 . Mythical Bestiary is better , getting 6 counters is easy in today game , in 1 turn you getting a spell card , the cost is it's a trap 🪤 and sometimes a brick 🧱 you might need a spell card to boost your counters

Edit: Also, with regards to Mythical Beast Medusa, it's actually based off of the Medusa form in a jellyfish's life cycle (ie, the stage where the jelly is free swimming). (But for those who don't know, Selene isn't pronounced as "Seleenie", it's "Suh-leen".)

Counterpoint for Cerberus. It doesn’t mean “3 headed dog” the original Greek word means “Spotted”. So Cerberus in Mythos basically just translates to “Spot”
Personally I like the mythical beasts more than the Endymian cards, and wish they got more support. Plus, they look like they would have fusion monsters because of all the chimera versions Jackel is apart of.

I just wish they make a spell that could lower or increase pend scales to help pen summoning the awkward 4 scale made me do mental backflip when I tried playing mystical beast monster I just wanted to play them to understand this summoning mechanic
This is the one archetype that got me to become competitive years ago when the deck came out. It was the only chance my friends had of getting me into pendulum monsters, and it worked. Now years later, Spellbook of Judgment came off the banlist. I have been back at full power. This is the only archetype I like to play now, and I have stood on business behind Jowgen, Secret Village Endymion, and his Mythical Beasts alongside Spellbook of Fate, Wisdom, and a hand full to go again. It does fold to some strats, but it is unbeatable going first. Nothing has broken that board without intense resource usage, and the refill from Judgment makes the archetype beyond unfair. It is ONLY locked behind the fact that they are pendulums and there is too much in the meta that can prevent you from going off, plus a well timed Droll and Lock/Brick stopped by Spellbook Magician obviously deleted the strat. But I will never stop pushing the limits of this strategy. As an avid wizard player in every game this is the exact kind of thing I love. Value from casting spells beyond just casting them. Thanks for doing the episode. Hopefully it'll help people revisit the archetype. Its got exploitable holes so it'll never be tier one, but the shut down it provides when I play is something else. Plus I never go into my extra deck. It's just big dudes and spells that back them up. It's so damn cool! Plus It reflavored the way we look at pendulum monsters, gaining value from the fact that they also count as spells. This is something I don't see a lot of people talk about. They are the only archetype that directly utilizes them as spells more than monsters, but they are still monsters that can be summoned to beat face. I even play this in Edison format. Magic Citadel is a house in that format where there isn't as much to deal with it. I made the pendulum Endymion my deck master for domain format too. This guy is just the GOAT for spellcasters in Yugioh. Dark Magician is the grand daddy who we all pay our respects to, but Endymion in my eyes is something else. There is so much here I love it so much. This video brought so much joy to me. Thank you!
Thanks for giving Endymion some love! I’ve been playing Endymion for a long time and still love to play it today. Mythical Bestiary is actually a really good card in the deck. I doubted it for a while but I tried it out and it’s awesome. Institution is also really good. Endymion needs a fusion with Mythical Beasts that’s also a pendulum scale 9. That would be soooo good

I think the “1000 or More ATK” cause is to prevent it from searcher “Forbidden One” cards. Add searchers essential have to tip-toe around that 5-Card instance win. That why we can’t have a “Reinforcement Of The Army” equivalent for Spellcasters.

The unfortunate downside of Medusa's revive is that it kinda sucks if you're running mostly or entirely Pendulums as your maindeck monsters, since those (usually) won't be going to the GY for Medusa to revive them. That leaves the Extra Deck monsters, and I guess you can use it on the couple of Spell Counter Links, but those lose a lot of utility if thrown into an MMZ. Really, your best options are the Synchros like Tempest Magician (RIP) or...
Arcanite Magician is probably still my favorite card in the game, ever since I got facerolled by it when playing Over the Nexus. It's kinda wild how it's changed in usefulness, though. Originally, you could build up into a kind of boss if you had ways to keep plopping counters onto it, since it gains a massive 1000 ATK for each one; it didn't even need to shed its own to pop opponents' cards, since it can take counters from your whole field. Nowadays, it's much more disposable due to its lack of any protection, but being able to pop as many cards as you have counters to burn still comes in handy, and it can be a cheeky thing to revive off Selene sometimes. I'd still like to see a new form of it in the future, even if it's just to see how much bigger its armor will get (or, ideally, to get a better look at what's underneath than what Assault Overload shows us).

35:40 For me, I use Kai-Den Kendo Spirit when i want my deck to have a 9 scale for Master Cerberus. It even goes back to the hand after pendulum summoning so you can put it or another pendulum on the scale again to supply more counters.

Endymion lore is interesting because the only organized group in the endymion universe we haven't seen regularly perform magic that's either immoral or dangerous are the Witchcrafters, so you can see why "oi mate, you got a loicense for that magic?" is a perfectly reasonable stance to have. (and as for the Wtichcrafters, let's be honest: Verre is grossly irresponsible so...)
The invasion of la Maison is where it gets iffy because trapping Aleister in the basement as a magical battery would be a good enough example of immoral magic to liquidate them, but we don't know if Endymion was even aware of that or if he just wanted to shut them down for aforementioned loicensing reasons.
So you admit Endymion's use of magic is immoral and/or dangerous but you think that gross oversimplification is reasonable.
Also that comment on Verre is circular logic that assumes everyone must have a strong man dictator.

As for the Verre situation, you certainly free to give an alternate interpretation of what happened in Witchcrafter Confusion and its aftermath besides "Verre randomly abandoned her comrades with no warning" but I cannot imagine what that interpretation would be. Me, I hold that the events are what they appear to be and that that Verre can be fairly characterised as "irresponsible." Finally, if, as you seem to imply, you believe that responsible leadership necessarily requires dictatorship, I'd advise you to de-Americanize yourself.

Once tried (keyword: TRIED) reading a fanfic where the MC for it had an Endymion deck. It was good… until Battle City where several characters don’t act like themselves and we get introduced to more multiversal shenanigans IN THE MIDDLE OF BATTLE CITY BEFORE THE FINALS. I had to drop it after that because of the out of character moments, random plots that get thrown, duel scripting to even the breaking of the lore of how the cards were created (I.e Synchro, Xyz, Pendulum and Link monsters were printed by Pegasus years in advanced despite Kaiba being responsible for Synchros, Yusei for Xyz, and Yuya for Pendulums. Oh- and the MC gets a Millennium Item despite not having an Egyptian past).
But I loved his (first) Endymion deck.

They're a love couple afaik. I remember their name in Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon is Serenity (Selene) comes from moon, and Tuxedo Mask is Endymion comes from Earth

Iirc they are together. Endymion reached the point he is at through good intentions of wanting to open up the benefits of magic to the common man, while preventing madmen from doing irreparable damage to the world. He's not doing a bad job per say either, just overstepped his bounds recently.

When i was a kid, my starter deck didn’t come with the field spell, but I did get a test card, which really confused me. Also meant I couldn’t summon Endimyion…
It very strange cuz in early year mainly synchro era it hard to summon it despite it release while everyone still play synchro cards alongside fusion cards.

Actually "seh-LEH-neh" is a more accurate pronunciation especially in Hades as that's the Greek pronunciation. The more commonly heard "suh-LEEN" is due to the English silent E as Greek doesn't have this phoneme.
@@motxmod Suh Leen has been around for far longer than that and Greek even uses it, do bear in mind like Latin it has several accents which drastically change how it is said however the one Nova uses here is NOT one of them.
Likely "suh-LEEN" isn't the correct pronunciation as the Japanese spelling is セレーネ "Serēne" as opposed to セリーン which is closer to "suh-LEEN". The more Greek pronunciation connects to the myth of Selene and Endymion where she fell in love with him and has Zeus give him eternal youth and sleep.

Rouge is completely justifiable cause it's a Lv 3 . To search and use spell card same turn is not possible on a Lv 3 bro . They would never put this effect on a stronger monster with more resources to summon cause it will be broken in the future and banned 🚫 . Mythical Bestiary is better , getting 6 counters is easy in today game , in 1 turn you getting a spell card , the cost is it's a trap 🪤 and sometimes a brick 🧱 you might need a spell card to boost your counters

Edit: Also, with regards to Mythical Beast Medusa, it's actually based off of the Medusa form in a jellyfish's life cycle (ie, the stage where the jelly is free swimming).

Personally I like the mythical beasts more than the Endymian cards, and wish they got more support. Plus, they look like they would have fusion monsters because of all the chimera versions Jackel is apart of.

This is the one archetype that got me to become competitive years ago when the deck came out. It was the only chance my friends had of getting me into pendulum monsters, and it worked.
Now years later, Spellbook of Judgment came off the banlist. I have been back at full power. This is the only archetype I like to play now, and I have stood on business behind Jowgen, Secret Village Endymion, and his Mythical Beasts alongside Spellbook of Fate, Wisdom, and a hand full to go again.
It does fold to some strats, but it is unbeatable going first. Nothing has broken that board without intense resource usage, and the refill from Judgment makes the archetype beyond unfair. It is ONLY locked behind the fact that they are pendulums and there is too much in the meta that can prevent you from going off, plus a well timed Droll and Lock/Brick stopped by Spellbook Magician obviously deleted the strat.
But I will never stop pushing the limits of this strategy. As an avid wizard player in every game this is the exact kind of thing I love. Value from casting spells beyond just casting them.
Thanks for doing the episode. Hopefully it'll help people revisit the archetype. Its got exploitable holes so it'll never be tier one, but the shut down it provides when I play is something else. Plus I never go into my extra deck. It's just big dudes and spells that back them up. It's so damn cool! Plus It reflavored the way we look at pendulum monsters, gaining value from the fact that they also count as spells. This is something I don't see a lot of people talk about. They are the only archetype that directly utilizes them as spells more than monsters, but they are still monsters that can be summoned to beat face.
I even play this in Edison format. Magic Citadel is a house in that format where there isn't as much to deal with it.
I made the pendulum Endymion my deck master for domain format too. This guy is just the GOAT for spellcasters in Yugioh. Dark Magician is the grand daddy who we all pay our respects to, but Endymion in my eyes is something else.

Thanks for giving Endymion some love! I’ve been playing Endymion for a long time and still love to play it today. Mythical Bestiary is actually a really good card in the deck. I doubted it for a while but I tried it out and it’s awesome. Institution is also really good. Endymion needs a fusion with Mythical Beasts that’s also a pendulum scale 9. That would be soooo good
