    Thank you!!! looked off and on for months a while back for a Pikachu that looked just right, and decided to give another look the other day. I'm so glad you shared this. It's super cute. And I really liked that you posted the pattern in the description. It helped when i didn't catch something in the video, or if I just wanted to do it on my own then skip to parts i had questions about. Thanks again, and i can't wait to see what else you post!

    how are you actually supposed to make the body arms and feet??? it doesn't give any direction at all

    • @53stitches
      @53stitches  3 года назад +8

      Hi Kori! I skipped over parts of the pattern that didn't have any new information to keep the video to a more reasonable length. The arms and legs are made up of the same stitches we used in the head, just less of them! The exact pattern is written in the video description (and if you're not sure how to read it I have an article on my blog 53stitches.com/reading-patterns/ explaining that in more detail as well. The arms and legs use a magic ring (as described at 0:50), a single crochet and increase (both are described at 2:31). The arm also has a decrease (described at 7:52). These three stitches are the building blocks of a huge number of crochet patterns, so once you've mastered them you'll be able to make so many more patterns!

      The beginning of the video is great;almost too thorough. But then you skip over half the pattern and integral part of the character.

    Thank you so much for this!! I'm new to crochet and I've been so excited to make this!!
    One problem I keep encountering though, every time I try to make this it ends up being WAAY too big! I don't understand what I'm doing wrong! I'm using the right size hook, and the yarn seems the same too? Maybe I'll try splitting the yarn in half

    • @53stitches
      @53stitches  5 месяцев назад

      Hi! Sizing has a lot to do with your yarn and hook combination for crochet. If it's turning out a lot bigger than you anticipated, I'd try switching your yarn up first. You could split it, like you suggested, but I imagine that would be a painful process haha. I'm using a DK weight yarn, but you could try fingering weight if you want an even smaller doll. In that case you'd want to change your hook size too - a general rule for amigurumi is your hook size should be about 2 sizes smaller than what's recommended on the yarn band. This is because we generally want a much tighter stitch and fabric and yarn band recommendations are usually for garments which need more drape. I hope that helps!

    hello! im planning on making a bunch of the starter pokemons. wanted to ask how long it takes for you to make each pokemon (pikachu, bulbasaur, charmander, eevee, squirtle)

    • @53stitches
      @53stitches  Месяц назад

      Hi! I batch make them, so I don't know exactly (i.e. I crochet a bunch of pieces and then later I do a bunch of assembly), but if I were to go from start to finish uninterrupted probably about 2 hours per Pokemon? I am pretty speedy though because I know the patterns off by heart and have made them lots of times over the years, so your mileage may vary haha

  • @littlepinks01

    I have some questions about your patterns. for example one of them say sc, [ inc, sc 2 ]x 5, inc, sc (24). so do you single crochet once, then (single increase and single crochet x2) 5 times and then increase once and then sc once? so do you only do the stuff in the parenthis 5 times and everything else just once?

    • @53stitches
      @53stitches  2 года назад +1

      Hello! Yes, that's right. Basically for those rounds that have this weird break up of repeating patterns we're staggering the increases to have more of a circular shape, and avoid the noticeable line you sometimes get when all the increases sit on top of each other. I have a video that explains that a bit better over here: ruclips.net/video/z1PHczV_cpY/видео.html

    Thank you for posting this, it's so cute! Is it okay to crochet the head and body as one piece, instead of crocheting them separately and sewing them together? Or would that turn out strange?

    • @53stitches
      @53stitches  2 года назад

      Thank-you! I think it would be fine! You could do the last row of the body in the front loop only to help it "turn", and should help create a similar definition between the neck and the body that you get with crocheting them separately and sewing together. Most of the final shape of the doll comes from how you stuff him, so if you're careful with that and move the stuffing around to get the shape you're after, it'll be an easy way to avoid one more thing to sew!

    Do I turn all the pieces inside out or leave them as they naturally curl up? Thanx

    • @53stitches
      @53stitches  2 года назад

      I turn them all inside out so they're "right sides out" - you can see me do it with the head at 6:41, and I usually do it right after the second row for the arms and legs since they're so small. They're called the "right side" and "wrong side" but to be honest, neither of them are actually wrong - it's up to you which look you prefer!

      What part are you stuck on Linda? This is my first video so there's a lot I still have to learn about making them clear, but is there a particular part of the video that makes it difficult to see for the tail? It's a fiddly part of the pattern, I've made it dozens of times and it's still tricky to get into those small stitches.

    I found the pattern all over the place I’m just learning I expected to be told how many stitches for legs not just same pattern as we have been doing. I’ve made so many things as a learner over past few weeks because the person tutoring explained everything. How do i know how to finish ears . I’m not being rude but if you are not going to show how to make each peice how can I learn . Very sad halfway through now going in the bin because I don’t know how to finish it .😢 . First time this has happened to me . 😢😢😢

    • @53stitches
      @53stitches  2 года назад +3

      Thanks for the feedback Susan :) I'll take that on board for future videos, but I do personally prefer tutorials that skip the repetitive bits, which is why I make them that way - I understand that style's not for everyone! The pattern is written out fully in the description so you can have a reference without needing to jump around the video, just in case you found yourself wanting to try again - or in case someone else is reading and agrees with this comment.

    Most of this tutorial was helpful however the tail part is explained so poorly, so many cuts and can’t see what’s going on. The rest is explained with so much detailed but when it gets to the tail it doesn’t make sense and I’ve been crocheting for awhile now

    • @53stitches
      @53stitches  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the feedback! The only things that got cut were single crochets but I probably could have left them in for the tail since I know it's the trickiest part of the pattern. I'm thinking of making a video just for the tail, without cuts, and while using a few more stitch markers to make it a bit clearer - I'm still learning the best way to make clear tutorials! Was it just the cuts that made it tricky to understand or was there another part of the explanation that didn't make sense as well?

    • @53stitches

      Hi! :) You can find the pattern and stitch counts for the ears in the description - they don't use any new stitches or techniques and I personally prefer tutorials that skip the repetitive bits, which is why I make them that way - I understand that style's not for everyone!

    • @darlingarlette
      @darlingarlette 6 дней назад

      @ I understand but please keep in mind that when someone is watching a video that says it’s for beginners they may be expecting for it to be thorough as not all beginners know how to read crochet patterns.

    • @53stitches
      @53stitches  3 дня назад

      @darlingarlette that's a great point, and I have resources on how to read patterns as well! I know everyone's learning style is different - including mine making this video! This is one of the first video tutorials I made so there's a lot for me to learn about viewing angles, level of detail, editing style and other ways that it could improve and I'm open to that feedback. Videos like this do take a lot of time and effort to make (for free!) so I'm sure you'd see it's more motivating to receive feedback and suggestions on improvements I can do for future videos, rather than things I can't change about a video that's already finished :)
