How to crochet an increase in amigurumi
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.2 года назад
An increase is one of the building blocks of amigurumi - luckily, once you’ve mastered the single crochet it’s very simple. You may also see an increase referred to as a 2sc - that’s because a crochet increase is simply 2 single crochets completed in the same stitch. At the end of the video, I repeat the stitch in slow motion. If you prefer learning through still images, we have a blog post on ...
How to crochet an invisible amigurumi decrease
Просмотров 9872 года назад
Just as an increase is used to start making your amigurumi shapes larger, a decrease (abbreviated as dec) is used to start shaping it down again. For amigurumi in particular I prefer using the invisible decrease because it's harder to spot and therefore neater. I also find it easier to do, but that could just be habit! An invisible decrease single crochet is also sometimes called a sc2tog croch...
How to do a single crochet in amigurumi
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.2 года назад
The single crochet is the building block of amigurumi, luckily it’s pretty simple. This stitch is used all the time in every day crochet projects, and soon enough you'll have practiced enough to do it in your sleep. At the end of the video I repeat the stitch in slow motion. If you prefer learning through still images, we have a blog post on this stitch: 53stitches.com/single-crochet/ For more ...
How to do a front loop only single crochet
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.2 года назад
The front loop only stitch is a great stitch for creating interesting textures. In amigurumi, I like to use it to help turn pieces, like for the brim of a hat. Or for creating sharper cinch points - like around a dolls neck or waist to help provide definition. You'll often see this stitch abbreviated as "flo" At the end of the video, I repeat the stitch in slow motion. If you prefer learning th...
How to do the double crochet stitch for beginners (US terms)

The double crochet stitch (usually abbreviated as the dc crochet stitch) is one of the more common crochet stitches, although it's not often used in amigurumi. At the end of the video, I repeat the stitch in slow motion. How to crochet a half double stitch (US terms)
Просмотров 8182 года назад
This half double crochet tutorial will hopefully make the stitch a cinch! A slightly taller stitch than the single crochet, and a slightly shorter stitch than the double crochet, the half double crochet is aptly named! At the end of the video, I repeat the stitch in slow motion. If you prefer learning through still images, there is a blog post on this stitch: 53stitches.com/half-double-crochet/...
Why is my amigurumi circle pointy
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.2 года назад
Pointy amigurumi aren't necessarily a problem if you prefer that style, but a lot of people wish their amigurumi circles were more circular, and don't know why they aren't. This video aims to illustrate why your amigurumi pieces start getting sharper points and turning into hexagons, and how you can avoid it. How to do a slip stitch in crochet
Просмотров 12 тыс.2 года назад
The slip stitch is almost a half-single crochet, and the both start the same way. I use a slip stitch as the last stitch in an amigurumi piece to help finish it off. Because it's a shorter stitch than the single crochet, it helps to offset the height difference when finishing a piece that's worked in the round. At the end of the video, I repeat the stitch in slow motion. If you prefer learning ...
How to make a slip knot for crochet
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.2 года назад
Once you've practiced a slip knot a couple of times, they'll be second nature! The slip knot is used less in amigurumi than it is in crochet, since most pieces start with a magic circle. It's still a valuable stitch to have in your collection for a whole heap of other crochet projects. At the end of the video, I repeat the stitch in slow motion. If you prefer learning through still images, ther...
How to do a back loop only single crochet stitch
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.2 года назад
The back loop only stitch is a handy one to learn if you're trying to get an interesting texture. In amigurumi, I love to use this stitch for things like the bottom of feet - it helps give a nice sharp edge. This is also perfect for things like the tops of hats. You'll often see this stitch abbreviated as "blo" At the end of the video, I repeat the stitch in slow motion. If you prefer learning ...
How to do a crochet chain stitch for beginners

Learn how to do a crochet chain stitch for beginners. Chains are used to start most typical crochet projects (blankets, scarfs etc.). In amigurumi they’re used for more unusual shapes - open pipes, where the chain has to be joined, or as a decorative belt. At the end of the video, I repeat the stitch in slow motion. How to close amigurumi pieces
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.2 года назад
The final part of finishing off amigurumi pieces - closing that hole! This method shows you how to do it in the neatest way I've found. It's not too often I make amigurumi pieces that close instead of being sewn onto an open piece or joined together, but when I do I get fussy about how it looks. How to sew amigurumi pieces together
Просмотров 4,2 тыс.2 года назад
Joining amigurumi pieces can be a pain, but once you learn this method it'll become a piece of cake! The pins help ensure the piece doesn't move while you're attaching it, and going through every stitch means you have the neatest finish possible for your parts. Attaching your crochet pieces together will no longer be a hassle! If you prefer learning through still images, there is a blog post on...
How to stuff your amigurumi
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.2 года назад
Stuffing your amigurumi pieces is fun because it means you're getting close to finishing the piece off! Follow this video to stuff to perfection. If you find that your doll can't hold it's shape without putting so much stuffing that it shows through the holes, it's probably a sign that the crochet hook you're using is too large for the yarn you're using. Amigurumi projects often require a hook ...

Idk why she didn’t include the ears….
Hi! :) You can find the pattern and stitch counts for the ears in the description - they don't use any new stitches or techniques and I personally prefer tutorials that skip the repetitive bits, which is why I make them that way - I understand that style's not for everyone!
@ I understand but please keep in mind that when someone is watching a video that says it’s for beginners they may be expecting for it to be thorough as not all beginners know how to read crochet patterns.
@darlingarlette that's a great point, and I have resources on how to read patterns as well! I know everyone's learning style is different - including mine making this video! This is one of the first video tutorials I made so there's a lot for me to learn about viewing angles, level of detail, editing style and other ways that it could improve and I'm open to that feedback. Videos like this do take a lot of time and effort to make (for free!) so I'm sure you'd see it's more motivating to receive feedback and suggestions on improvements I can do for future videos, rather than things I can't change about a video that's already finished :)
Hi! If I do a 5th round (to make a bigger circle) the scallops don’t turn out right, there’s one stitch that’s too much, how do I change that?
Hi! Ooh that's an interesting catch. The reason it happens is because the scallop is a 4 stitch repeat, and since there are 56 stitches in the 4th round that divides evenly, but a 5th round would have 70 stitches, so you'll want something that divides evenly into that - probably a 5 stitch repeat scallop. You could try each scallop as: 1 sc, 3 dc in the next stitch, 1sc, 2 sl st (so basically add an additional slip stitch at the end of each scallop). This will leave you with a slightly larger gap between scallops, but should still work out. Or you could try splitting the arch of the scallop and doing something like: 1 sc, (hdc, dc) in the 2nd stitch, (dc, hdc) in the 3rd stitch, 1sc, 1 sl st That would be a 5 stitch repeat again and the 2nd and 3rd stitch are basically mirroring each other. The scallop should be a little wider but I'm not sure if it would be as dense / tidy with the taller stitches split over a longer distance. You could always try one or two to see if you're happy with the look! Or thirdly, if you really like the look of the original scallops you can try and manipulate the number of stitches in the 5th round so they're divisible by 4 - you'd either want to skip 2 of the increases (to get you to 68), or add 2 additional increases (to get you to 72). I would suggest sneaking them in on opposite sides of the coaster to help them blend in, and since it's only 2 extra stitches it shouldn't impact the shape too much. This was a long answer but I got a bit interested in working it out haha, I hope that makes sense!
52 Years since I last crocheted, so pleased with the results. Many thanks 😊
this was so helpful. Thank you
😊
You had me till you didn't give up the doubts for arm legs and ears. It's not real easy to follow along.
Thanks for the feedback! The entire pattern is in the description box, I wanted to try and keep the video a bit shorter by only covering things in detail when you need new techniques, but I know that style doesn't suit everyone!
Podrías traducir o colocar en número cada vuelta no entiendo
hello! im planning on making a bunch of the starter pokemons. wanted to ask how long it takes for you to make each pokemon (pikachu, bulbasaur, charmander, eevee, squirtle)
Hi! I batch make them, so I don't know exactly (i.e. I crochet a bunch of pieces and then later I do a bunch of assembly), but if I were to go from start to finish uninterrupted probably about 2 hours per Pokemon? I am pretty speedy though because I know the patterns off by heart and have made them lots of times over the years, so your mileage may vary haha
How do you stop it leaning ?
For me personally the lean is reduced a lot by tying the knot at the back - when I don't do that I get a more obvious lean. There are some other methods I've heard of that don't personally use but I know have worked for others! You can also try the yarn under method - so instead of wrapping the yarn over your crochet hook for the first part of a single crochet, you wrap it under your hook and pull it through (try searing yuyo vs yoyo for a more detailed video) but I personally don't do it because I just like yarn over better. You can also look into joined crochet rounds instead of continuous rounds - for some people this can help counteract the lean a little bit - although for me, the lean is the same in joined or continuous rounds. But mostly the lean will be more obvious in larger pieces - this example piece has like 5 rows of changes, so it's a bit more subtle. If it were 10 rows the lean becomes more obvious - I have heard people say if you shift the colour changes one stitch over every 4 or 5 rows even though there'll still be a little jolt where you've done it, the end result can sometimes look straighter! I hope that helps :D
@53stitches thankyou, I shall keep trying
Hola maestra le saludo desde Paraguay. Se pidria tejer con marcadores y no en espiral?❤ cariños
Ur a good teacher its just me
Батюшки. , да что ж так всё сложно то .?
Will absolutely make this ♥️
Not so good. You didn’t even tell properly about arms and ears.
Thanks for the feedback, I wanted to create a tutorial that didn't repeat things we'd already covered, so since the arms, legs and ears don't have any new stitches or techniques in them I sped through them. I know that style doesn't suit everyone :) The full pattern is written in the description box of the video so you can find the stitch counts there!
I loved this coaster and make so much difference as a prop for photos. Really cute! Could you please do a video explaining the Vaporeon Head Fins?
Photo props are such a good idea, they add a great pop of colour. And good news, I have plans to make videos for all the Eeveelutions 😊 so it will be coming!
@@53stitches This is great! I really enjoy make your eeveelutions patterns, even with some doubts... Have a video to help follow the instructions will be great! I'm excited for this 😍
I’m going to make this little guy for my grandson. I’ve only crocheted a couple things so far but not characters lol. I went over the video and over the comments and regardless of the negative I think you did a fine job at explaining plus you have it written down so fingers crossed..I think this will be fun to make. Thank you for taking the time to make this tutorial:)
Thank-you! The tail is definitely the trickiest part, so use plenty of stitch markers if you need help with the counts!
You are so confusing.
Hi! This kind of comment is too vague to help me understand what might be confusing. More specific feedback is more likely to get a helpful response, thanks!
These are so cute!! saving for later :) would be a nice stash buster and gift
Thank-you! And yes, each coaster used about 10g / 20m / 22yards of yarn for me so perfect for yarn leftovers!
Someone pls like my comment so I can come back to this 12:28 tail
Could you please do a video to demonstrate the horizontal change? Visual demonstration really helps me alongside verbal explanation 🙏🏻

Thank you so much for this!! I'm new to crochet and I've been so excited to make this!! One problem I keep encountering though, every time I try to make this it ends up being WAAY too big! I don't understand what I'm doing wrong! I'm using the right size hook, and the yarn seems the same too? Maybe I'll try splitting the yarn in half
Hi! Sizing has a lot to do with your yarn and hook combination for crochet. If it's turning out a lot bigger than you anticipated, I'd try switching your yarn up first. You could split it, like you suggested, but I imagine that would be a painful process haha. I'm using a DK weight yarn, but you could try fingering weight if you want an even smaller doll. In that case you'd want to change your hook size too - a general rule for amigurumi is your hook size should be about 2 sizes smaller than what's recommended on the yarn band. This is because we generally want a much tighter stitch and fabric and yarn band recommendations are usually for garments which need more drape. I hope that helps!
Thank you sooo much
Most of this tutorial was helpful however the tail part is explained so poorly, so many cuts and can’t see what’s going on. The rest is explained with so much detailed but when it gets to the tail it doesn’t make sense and I’ve been crocheting for awhile now
Thanks for the feedback! The only things that got cut were single crochets but I probably could have left them in for the tail since I know it's the trickiest part of the pattern. I'm thinking of making a video just for the tail, without cuts, and while using a few more stitch markers to make it a bit clearer - I'm still learning the best way to make clear tutorials! Was it just the cuts that made it tricky to understand or was there another part of the explanation that didn't make sense as well?
Thank you!! I made everything except the tail just from reading your blog. I am so glad I found this video to help me with the tail. I will be doing this tomorrow on my day off:) 21:30
No Instructions for the arm's and leg's. ??????¿
I read your blog THANK GOODNES I FOUND your RUclips. I can watch ths all day ❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤
I just found your videos- I like the short, to the point directions. Thank you. Question 1- splitting the stitch directions ([2 sc, inc, 2 sc] VS [4 sc, inc, 4 sc]) results in the same thing? Question 2 - will the pattern below result in a rounder shape? (I want to make a plain, round coaster.) 1 sc, inc 2 sc, inc 3 sc, inc etc. until it gets to the size I want
Thank you❤
I just finished a project and the increases where like you suggested here, but since I didn't get why they where like this, I ignore it and did it as usual, since was a sphere it was not a problem, but I'm gonna start paying attention in this from now on, your video was really helpful.
I cannot see what she is doing and I’m new at crocheting so this is 10xs even more discouraging
The tail is the death of me
I’m brand new to crocheting and I’m so excited to try this! Thank you for your wonderful video ❤
When you're done with the little white part, do you just switch back and cut and tie it off to go back to the pink? And then go around, and then switch back to the white?
This is the same question I have, did you ever find the answer?
Hello! Yes that's right 😊 the method shown here is repeated for every time I change colours where I want that sharp change - it's a bit time consuming if there are lots in a pattern but I've found it gives the neatest result!
@@53stitcheswould this work for spots?
I don't have the written pattern so this is a waste of time for me 😢😢😢
The written pattern is in the description box ☺ or you can also find it on my website 53stitches.com!
I’ve tried this over and over again and it doesn’t seem to work
I hate this I can't do a single thing😭😭😭😭😡😡😡😡
Thank you for the pattern and the video. There's a jump from 19:16 to 19:19 of the tail sewing part. Could you explain how you got the thread from the end of the tail to the middle part? Thank you!
Hi! I just thread it through the inside of the piece - like at 19:40 when I'm hiding the end piece. I hope that helps 😊
Thank you! Finally a quick and easy explanation
Great tutorial! I like how you explained invisible decreases too.
How did you crochet with the black yarn? I cannot for the life of me see my own stitches that I make.
Glaceon tutorial please😢
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I’m going to reference this technique in a pattern I’m writing. Your video is really easy to follow and concise.
this one turns out nice!!! out of all the tutorials i've watched, i prefer this one.
Thanks this helped so much i even suprised my best friend with the pikachu and she was so happy cause she loves pikachu
I hope to see more tutorials cause i love crocheting i dont know how to spell sorry If I got one wrong spelled
