What if Austria Rejected Anschluss in 1938?

- 99.73% of Austrians voted on the 13th of March 1938 that they should join Germany, right? Well, this is only the partial truth, as there is more to that. In reality, the Austrian Chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg called for a referendum to happen, but due to an ultimatum by the Germans, was forced to resign 2 days before the referendum. After that, Arthur Seyss-Inquart became chancellor and allowed the Germans to walk in and rig the referendum.
So, what if we changed that, and Kurt Schuschnigg didn’t resign? Historically, his resignation was because quote “to avoid the shedding of fraternal blood.” In addition, something I bet you didn’t know is that originally, the Austrian painter and leader of the ultranationalist party ruling the German Reich planned to turn Austria into a client state ruled by Seyss-Inquart, not to annex it.

Hitler wouldn't have attempted it, and would have been sad, and then moved on.
That's what actually would have happened.
The Dolffus one was unrealistic Dolfuss always had close ties with Italy. And im pretty sure if germany did try something italy would be on the austrian side and with italian help the germans wouldent do much in the alps.
And this is also why I didn't go for that option

What about the Rome protocols? I thought that if Germany actually engaged in war, at least Italy and likely Hungary would have intervened too
As Italy was the leader, and the Italians wouldn't join, it makes little sense for Hungary to solo-join. The Rome protocols were dead after 1934

It could have dragged in Czechoslovakia, France and Britain as well. The German Army of 1938 wasn't the German Army of September 1939 or May 1940. They would have been steamrolled.

Actualy Austria was about to reject it but when Hitler got wind of this he invaded before any troops could fight so techincaly this is just what if Austria was faster with rejecting

My prediction is that the Germans after hard time conquering Austria would be too weak to have Suddentenland easily given, and so Germany is Ultra Weak compared to Our TImeline and could be easily beaten by Poland and France

@@rewriting-history Yeah like Germany for majority of the time was just riding on intimidation since they had problems with money due to militirizing so fast so in a straight fight with someone who could stall they would fall apart due to lack of funds

If Austria had got to keep the Sudetenland then when Germany annexed it then could the invasion of Czechoslovakia been prevented?
