Stay away from JD Green - They're over priced and the service options for owners absolutely stink!! In fact, several owners of larger tractors - Farms - with combines and such are suing JD because they can not even change a simply switch as it will "
VOID" the warranty if it's not done by JD themselves. MF is a good brand that is reliable and robust. Go new if you afford it and always go up 1 model size for the power you think you will need. I've been there and done that and learned a lesson that more power is a good thing with the Kubota I purchased ( 25 HP 4WD) and was not big enough after I realized my mistake afterwards. Great for running a small brush hog and such, but trying to grade with a box blade - forget it - It didn't have the power or size I needed. I needed at least a 50HP one...Enough of my debacle. Always go bigger!! You'll be glad you did!!

I have a 4052R JD with 440R loader, 485 backhoe, JD MX8 mower or shredder, 7’ blade, 4’ forks and a 4’ rock bucket. I am a retired irrigated farmer that operated a lot bigger equipment but I have been amazed at what the 4052R will do. This is a 52 HP tractor. I know you are thinking bigger but this
Tractor can be bought with all the attachments I mentioned for just the cost of the tractor you are looking at. A 110 to 120 HP tractor is a pretty big tractor for what you do unless you are going to do actual farming. Don’t know what you are anticipating but my comment is just my opinion. I enjoy watching you guys. Keep on keeping on.

Hell ya buy one!!! You could also make a fortune doing snow removal on large lots. The real money in the lawn industry is all the side work, cleanups, bushes, brick jobs, gutters. You can pay the tractor off in one winter season. Great video!

Except we live in Texas! So we would go broke offering snow removal in our part of the world

The tractor is a great investment. Tractors hold their value very well. The catch is that you will quickly (if you haven't already) reach the point where you need to hire a whole full time crew to keep that equipment running as much as you can. Growth is a blessing and a curse.

That’s one hell of a commitment 85 to 100k especially if the work is sporadic. Best of luck in your decision making. Your lawn business seems to be very prosperous.

  • @sheilacaine

Well if the work is out there to pay for the tractor then go for it. Remember work smarter not harder. ❤

As you said, the first thing you have to decide is what direction you want to take your business. Your time is the one thing you can't make more of unless you hire employees. If you can make more income per hour in clearing then maybe that is the direction to take as long as you enjoy the work. Also consider, at your age - and the next twenty-five years - how hard can your body work. Next, you have to keep your equipment working. What is the cost of an idle tractor or an idle lawn care trailer of equipment. You are being smart to "right size" things and decide what equipment including implements, trailer, and storage do you need to get the most money out of your most precious asset - your time. Frankly, I don't think rental is bad since it allows flexibility and your lawn care trailer is already profitably utilizing - say 80% - of your time even in the winter. It is nice the rental does the maintenance on the tractor, implements, trailer, and keep up with registrations. God bless you.

On the door step of a huge opportunity, Kevin you know the business in your area and the potential of what you could do and make of it. Personally, I would got with the cheaper of the 2 options as well as which has a better aftermarket for implements that fit your needs. Cost is factor, could you get the same of more HP with the red brand tractor? Service? How does the dealership treat you? So many ?’s. lol. 1 thing I hear all the time from those with compact tractors, get 1 size bigger than you think you need because you will not regret it in the long haul. Definitely at the next step in your business and having a 2 man crew to handle the mowing while you could be out doing these larger jobs seems to be where you are at and the business is their for the taking. Easy for me to type and say “get the tractor and chase it” but it is not me making the payments, quotes, or doing the work. I see and hear a very good opportunity that would take you to the next level and not a lot of competition doing the work which is a huge opportunity to create your spot in the market and gain a foot hold in it. Seize the opportunity and run with it is what I personally say. You are a smart guy and I know you will make the right call. I support you from Michigan no matter what way you go. 👍🏻👍🏻

You know your area and business. But I would make sure a tractor that size is what you really need. We looked at multiple size tractors for our 5 acres. We decided that one the size you rented was best for us because it was more maneuverable than the larger ones. Getting between trees and other obstacles that don't need to be taken down.

And u can also use the tractor for pushing the snow for people in the winter months and more job

If the business is sustainable and the payments are easy to cover go for it! If you've only rented once then maybe waiting would be good unless you are going to aggressively pursue work that requires a tractor.

Glad to see business is taking off for you and the family but also with such a big tractor your definitely going to have to look for the big jobs and yes it’ll help with the little ones but have you looked into skid steers with attachments or even a tractor a little smaller but that’ll be more useful and alot more suitable for residential jobs

    • @OffThePathWithKevin
      @OffThePathWithKevin  3 дня назад +2

While the Skid steer would be good for the last Job we did a tractor is the best all around piece of equipment that could be used the most ways for our company!

I suggest a min skidsteer, Vermeer makes a real good one. Not as expensive as a full blown skidsteer but highly capable and excellent for what you are doing. There is a small youtube channel, Shott Services, he uses one to do things I never thought you could do with it.

I guess it all comes down to what you plan on doing with your business. At those prices I would be inclined to find a good used one. I say that knowing full well that I would not take my own advice and buy new.😂 You have the right entrepreneurial mindset to build a successful company and I no doubt it is going to grow. Great video Kevin.

I suggest to go and buy if you have already at least 4 or 5 jobs that are coming your way and they are going to give you at least 5 months of "monthly payments" so you can then use it and make a lot of profits. But remember to keep using it as much as you can. This is my humble opinion.

Them green tractors are just over priced in my opinion. If you can get more for less in another brand andnthe dealer is a good dealer. No brainer decision. I have thst little kubota you rented. It has served us well and done things with it that yes it was undersized but for the money did me fine.

Mike Andes says don't start another business until you can let someone else run the one you have. I too get shiny object syndrome and kick myself all the time for not focusing on one specialty, instead I do all things that make me money. LONG STORY SHORT NO!
