THE DUPREES TODAY have a 39 year lineage of stage performances and in every show still pay homage to the original guys who started it all back in 1961, Mike Arnone, Joe Santollo, Joey Van, John Salvato, Tom Bialoglo, and Mike Kelly. Little has been written about the original Duprees before the internet but much has been discussed by people who either have an agenda, a favorite lead singer or just by people who think they know the facts or try to lay claim to its membership. Many people have come up to me and asked do you know this guy or that guy who claims to be the original lead singer or former member and it goes on and on and on. So for this reason I would like to go on record publicly. All though I knew the entire original member's except Tommy B. who left the group in the early 1960's. I cannot talk about the early days of the Original Duprees as I came into the group in 1978 through my cousin Joe Cataldo who at that time had a long association with the guys as a member of The Elgins who's members later co-founded The Duprees. Then later as stage manager for The Duprees from the early days on into the 1970's when my cousin first introduced me to the group as a fan. I received a telegram from John Salvato in 1978 asking me to audition for the lead spot that began a life long association with The Duprees. As popular music was changing in all directions at that time, for various reasons mainly disco, performing only 25 jobs that year with Joe Santollo, Mike Arnone, John Salvato, Larry Casanova and myself on lead. Starting in 1980 for a short time in the scope of things, there were two separate Duprees groups performing at the same time. There was the Mike Arnone group with lead singer Richie Rosato and also John Salvato’s Duprees with myself on lead for the 2nd time. Richie Rosato who came into the Duprees in 1980 left the group in 2001 to be replaced by Me Tommy Petillo for a third time as lead for the Duprees. Around 1989 Mike Arnone won the rights to the name and that is the group that is performing today for the past 38 years. Hello Frank, I have had a long association with the group starting early 1978. My cousin who was there for most of the early years told me the group did very little TV, as to why we'll never know I guess. I just found this video of "Goodnight My Love" by the Duprees the other night on RUclips. It was a real treat because I thought the song was going to be the standard song entitled "Goodnight My Love". This led me to do some research into the group, starting back at the beginning. It is SO interesting to see how much talent this group embodied throughout the years. I have always liked the Duprees throughout the years and think the present group is also fantastic. Thank you for the postings. I joined the Facebook page too. It is great fun ... a little bit nostalgic and sad because so many of the members have passed on ... but still a joy to watch!!!
The group was at their finest, in these years; & Mike Kelly looked like a movie star, & he could really sing ! -----------RIP, Joe Santolo, Mike Kelly , Mike Arnone, & Joey Canzano. ------------------Wolfsky9
Whenever I listen to my " Heritage Years" CD, I know I'm listening to the Duprees at the vocal best. Regardless of personal issues, line-up & Lead changes, here's what matters : THE MUSIC. Pure, & beautifully done ! -----------Wolfsky9, 70 y/o Now
I am just knocked out seeing this classic Vid., thank-you so very, very much. I've often said that in many ways, The Duprees were at their very best in those " Heritage Years ", & this version of " Goodnight My Love" is a classic example. , Mike Kelly was movie star handsome, & what a voice he had. Great, great memories!! Wolfsky9, 66 y/o
you're blessed from the Lord Jesus incredible vocals love you too. I love you a lot bring back the music again they don't have any good music now love you guys God bless you
Tommy, I'm an old time doo wop singer from way back. I grew up in Manhattan's Little Italy with Johnny "Motts" Martinucci, formerly of the Demensions, and now with Just Friends. I think you know him (did a show together?). He and I sang just about every Dupree song many times when we sang together in the 60's. Of course, he sang lead. I'm just a lowly first tenor.
I know I entered earlier, but I must say it again : this era was golden --at least musically. The guys never, ever sounded stronger or better than they did during the " Heritage years " , IMHO. Mike Kelly had a fantastic voice, & the harmonies were just the very best. My thanks to you again for this post --I was 20 y/o, heading to 21 when this song came out, though in Denver I'm sad to say, I never heard it on our 2 AM Top 40 stations, or our 1 FM " rock " station. I still love listening to the original Duprees but this video to me is priceless. It's extra nice to be able to actually SEE them. What an extraordinarily talented and handsome group they were! So sad that some of them died so young but makes these videos extra special IMHO. 💐🌹🌷🌺🌸🌻🌼💮
Hi, Tommy. My name is Butch Feuker and I sang with a Bayonne group called, The Notations. We had the great pleasure of singing on the same stage at the Duprees . It was some time in the early 60s. We opened for them. They were the main group. I still remember them as great singers and guys. We sang at the Elks club in Elizabeth N.J. It was a very big hall, a few hundred fans. We had a great time. The new Duprees still sound great and do justice the the original group. Take care, Butch Feuker.
Whenever I see this, it reminds me of just how great this musical line-up of The Duprees, really was. and Mike Kelly ! The man had movie star looks, & that voice. What a shame, knowing he lost it the worst way possible. --Oh well, we do have their music, & for that, I'm always thankful. ------------------------Wolfsky9, 69 y/o, Another Nice Italian Boy
Tommy, my wife knew your cousin Joe Cataldo and Gus Salerno. She said they would sing under the street light on the corner of Vroom St, Jersey City. Joe Santolla lived around the corner from me on Storms Ave. She said Joe & Gus were her hairdressers many years ago. If Joe is still with us, tell them Roseanna from Vroom St. said hello. I heard the name Parisians came from the hairdressing school on Bergen Ave,
That's an incredible rendition of that song. I grew up with these guys and am about the same age. It's so disappointing that they have chosen not to stay together.

So glad this video is available. There are so few pics of Mike Kelly. Mike was the most handsome man that ever walked this earth with the most beautiful voice!
He was very very handsome with those Irish Eyes. And tall too. He looked like a movie star. Two of the oldest Duprees are alive...Tom Bialoglow and John Salvato. Wish they could sing with the current group.
Hello Mr. Petillo..just wanted to say that I really enjoy listening to your great voice...you are a fabulous song stylist..could most likely make the Sesame Street theme sound...sexy :) heard you in person in Hoboken, years ago..at the Italian festival...look forward to seeing the Duprees again . God blessed you with a marvelous gift..thanks for sharing it with the world...Best, Lynn
Tom you are a great lead singer I grew up on Storms Ave and I was 12 years old when I use to listen to Joey Santollo and I knew him very well he always made time for me I was a young boy and would listen to them sing as they practiced in Joeys basement. When Mike Kelly who some say had a better voice than Chubby came in 64. Tom B left when His buddy Joey. Left in fact they reall didn't want Tommy but Joey came as a package deal. You sang I believe in the late 70 s when Mike Arnone started up the group again. Joey Santollo was dead and I think so was Vann. You sang with another good friend of mine Larry Casanova his family and my family were very close.
These guys. Along with Frankie Valli & the 4 Seasons, The Association , da, da ,da, The 4 Tops Temptations Spinners , when this was the norm for real music
Looking at that tape, I have to say that Tommy grew into oe handsome man. What a wonderful trip down memory lane . The sound was spectacular. We always say .....Kids today havent a clue what music really is. Fun beautiful and mostly a relaxing addition to your day. Gods blessings to you and yours, and Thank you once again
@@kathy07002 no Joey was the first lead in 1961.he left for a short time and in came Mike who stayed only briefly. Joey came back after that When they started recording fo COED Mike was invited back into the group when Joey left again in 1964. Then the group moved to Heritage. Been following them since 1961. All the hits came from the original group when Joey was the lead.
I love Walt! Talent agent, always looking for the next super group. His was a school teacher . He was real close to the The Four Seasons, knew everything about them. Always enjoyed running in to him.
I finally got a good history report of the Dupree's, from watching the Vinny Vella program. The end of the show is the most depressing experience ever but when the performance is on it's like magic!.
He sang with 3 other guys, a guitarist--a drummer and a key board player...they HE sounded great, but he never paid the other guys..the other guys came back the next week with another singer..called themselves "Class"
On this video I thought this was Mike Kelly ? ? He really looks like the singer I saw on PBS Doo Wop Program ----- and some of the video's shown here on RUclips --
As a fan and dear friend of Mike Kelly... i agree with Tom Biologlow when he said at the time of Mikes death...Mike had a Velvet Voice ! He was a one of a kind voice & man!!! ❤️🎶
Tom they got the name called the Parisian and went to Monticello Ave looking for a black lead and asked this guy het where can we find some singers by the way my name is Richie Dupree parsians Duprees keep that music going don't let it die
TOMMY PETILLO: In Port Richey,Fla.I became friends wit a Tommy who was a singer Of well known band . I moved home CT. I lost his # & I changed Fla.#to ct.# we sat Hrs talking music ,im the drummer "Jules" R U My friend tommy in Fla.? T.Y. JULES
Damn I,M 71 AND ALL THE DOO WOP IS THE GREATEST, IT'S NOT THAT HEAD BANGER GARBAGE. YOU DANCED WITH YOUR GIRL AND UNDERSTOOD ALL THE WORDS, KEEP IT GOING
Tommy, what an absolutely beautiful song! I have seen you quite a few times in the last few years in South Florida, (will also be seeing you October 25 and March 17) I have never heard this before.....do you ever currently perform this song?
The only station in NYC who played that great song, Goodnight My Love was WOR-FM and it was big hit there in Nov.-Dec. `68.My personal favorite by them was I`m Yours & my second favorite is I Understand(1965-Columbia).That was great too.
Mike Kelly was a great talent. But he wasted his talent because he was addicted to drugs. My short personal contact with him was in the early 80's when he was living in the same house as my girlfriend & intended fiancee & her friend. Mike would come down to their apartment with a supply of cocaine & put it on the table for my fiancee, her friend & her boyfriend to enjoy. While they did that in my presence, I would go to another room & listen to music. When I conversed with Mike & talked about music & his singing, he would change the subject. I realized that if I married my then fiancee, I would be making a huge mistake, because in her words "I love cocaine". May I say that later, just a few years before his death in a place on Long Island, he was trying to revive his career in music. Rest In Peace Mike Kelly we surely miss You.
You two are so lucky! I'm only 26 and have no personal association to any member of the Dupree's. Could one of you please answer a question of mine - Which ethnicity was Mike Kelly? The man seem to shift between Irish Pale and Afro American depending on which video or photo I view. I adore the man, one of my big regrets in life not having seen him perform live.
Mike Kelly was my favorite out of all The Duprees. Sorry to hear about this. I wondered whatever happened to him that he didn't make it really really big. So talented and so handsome. Understand now why I never could find out much about him. I did see that he died a few years ago. Rest in Peace Gorgeous. 🌺🌷💐♥️🌹🏵️🥀🏵️🏵️🌹♥️💐🌷
@@catmother1989Yeah, you gotta admit the guy was a good looking guy. Half Irish descent & half Colombian descent. When I last ran in to him, he was trying to revive his singing career, and tried to hook up with a band I am friends with, but sad to say his reputation re his unreliability worked against him. Rest In Peace Mike.
charted on all three major charts of the day but just bubbled on the hot 100 on billboard but made it on cashbox and record world..must have been a good seller on the east coast
Mike Kelly was good but Joey Vann was great and his voice was unmistakable on all Duprees hits. Richie Rosato is the nearest voice to his. I have seen the Duprees perform for more than 40 years and I am still a fan.
+Jamie Reilly Joey Vann fronted the group very well. But NO WAY was he a better singer than Mike Kelly. Vann did NOT have the pitch control Kelly had, nor did Vann have a falsetto voice. He often strained and fluctuated notes and had nowhere near the versatility and style of Kelly. You ask anyone who sang with the Duprees and they'll tell you that Mike Kelly was the group's best lead singer. But all you have to do is listen to the songs Kelly sang lead on.
Mike Kelly actually did the demos than left that's when the 3 guys Arnone Santollo and Salvato needed a lead and they recruited Canzano who wouldn't go without Tommy I wonder would would have happened if Mike went on that interview with Paxton. Would the hits have been there who knows Mike had such a beautiful voice but for some reason never charted. Keep the Duprees alive Tom Joey was my idol.
George Restivo My cuz Joe Cataldo told me that Mike sang the demos. He sang with the Elgins before they merged with the Parisians before they became the Duprees. He had a long history and friendship with the guys. Best Tp
Tommy Petillo is the current lead singer of The Duprees & is certainly great. I know Joey Vann was the voice on the records that made the hits, but from what I understand Mike Kelly made had made the original demos. May I ask Tommy, do the recordings done by Mike Kelly exist, & if so where can we hear them? Thanks Tommy!
To anybody reading the comments- Can you please let me know of any other music that sounds similar to the Dupree’s album: Delicious- The Heritage Years?

Remembering Mike Kelly on this the 2nd anniversary of his passing.
April 19, 1944 - August 7, 2012
We will never forget you.
I'm interested in an original duprees fan club! I love them. Can't get enough of them especially that gorgeous Michael Kelly and his smooth voice.
-----------Wolfsky9, 70 y/o Now
Thanx for sharing Tommy Petillo ,
I've enjoyed watching this video already for a few years now. Pretty song with which I thoroughly enjoy watching Michael perform. Wow!
Remembering Mike Kelly, April 19, 1944 - August 7, 2012. Love always SG
Remembering Mike Kelly, April 19, 1944 - August 7, 2012.Happy '73rd' Birthday, Mike..Always in our thoughts.
Love these songs!!! Gee, where have they been hiding?
What a great line-up! Mike Kelly and his fellows during the best phase of the group.
How can 59 people not like this fantastic, beautiful song/video?

Always with Love.
I come from Liverpool UK,my great love for music are the Beatles,my second love is this type of music, beautiful music.god bless Tommy.
PHEW! INCREDIBLE LEAD AND HARMONIES!! Thank you!
See you guys in Ormond Beach, FL on Mar 18th! We're looking forward to it!
When we’re they in Ormond Beach FL
COME BACK, PLEASE
I know I entered earlier, but I must say it again : this era was golden --at least musically. The guys never, ever sounded stronger or better than they did during the " Heritage years " , IMHO. Mike Kelly had a fantastic voice, & the harmonies were just the very best. My thanks to you again for this post --I was 20 y/o, heading to 21 when this song came out, though in Denver I'm sad to say, I never heard it on our 2 AM Top 40 stations, or our 1 FM " rock " station. Wolfsky9, 66 y/o
Apart from "Hope"
Someone's having a bad day on that one unfortunately

These vocals....splendid!(Brazil).
Tommy is the best I've ever heard could listen to him always.
Love that sound wasn't born when it was out
I still love listening to the original Duprees but this video to me is priceless.
"Goodnight My Love" is my most favorite Duprees song
Whenever I see this, it reminds me of just how great this musical line-up of The Duprees, really was. and Mike Kelly ! The man had movie star looks, & that voice. What a shame, knowing he lost it the worst way possible. --Oh well, we do have their music, & for that, I'm always thankful. ------------------------Wolfsky9, 69 y/o, Another Nice Italian Boy
He didn't have cancer. He had kidney failure. That record should have been #1 on the charts.
All the Duprees lead singers were great. Joey Van, Mike Kelly, Rich Rosato and Tommy Petrillo. Not much to choose between all four.
Thanks Joe
Joe Bruno joey van was the man
Tommy, my wife knew your cousin Joe Cataldo and Gus Salerno. She said they would sing under the street light on the corner of Vroom St, Jersey City. Joe Santolla lived around the corner from me on Storms Ave. She said Joe & Gus were her hairdressers many years ago. If Joe is still with us, tell them Roseanna from Vroom St. said hello. I heard the name Parisians came from the hairdressing school on Bergen Ave,
A HUGE hit on WOR-FM 98.7 in late 1968.No other NY stations played it except OR-FM.
That's an incredible rendition of that song. I grew up with these guys and am about the same age. It's so disappointing that they have chosen not to stay together.
wow, what a tight group with a great sound and look! great vintage footage, thanks for sharing!
Along with their unique sound and outstanding vocal harmonies, The Duprees perform with showmanship that is individually and collectively, second to none. THE DUPREES TODAY have a 37 year lineage of stage performances and pay homage in every show to the original guys who started it all..Mike Arnone, Joe Santollo, Joey Van, John Salvato, Tom Biaglo, and Mike Kelly. Little has been written about the Duprees before the internet but much has been discussed by people who either have an agenda, a favorite lead singer or just by people who think they know the facts or try to lay claim to its membership. Many people have come up to me and asked do you know this guy or that guy who claims to be the original lead singer or former member and it goes on and on and on. So for this reason I would like to go on record publicly.
All though I knew all the original member's except Tommy B who left the group in 1963. I cannot talk about the early days of the Original Duprees as I came into the group in 1978 through my cousin Joe Cataldo who was there stage manager from 1961 on. I did not keep a record of my stage performances in 1978 and only started to keep a record in 1979. Popular music was changing in all directions at that time, for various reasons we only performed 25 jobs that year with Joe Santollo, Mike Arnone, John Salvato, Larry Casanova and myself on lead. Up to that point there were only three lead singers for the group, Joey Van, Mike Kelly and myself Tommy Petillo. Sure there were a couple of tryouts that did not cut the mustard and shortly gone, sorry no names. The only other main stay lead was Richie Rosatto.
Starting in 1980 for a short time in the scope of things, there were two seperate Duprees groups performing at the same time. The Mike Arnone family holds the Trade Mark. Also with Tony Testa who is the caretaker and leader of the Duprees today and that's a fact jack of Duprees history.
LOL TOMMY PETILLO
As a foot note I would like to add the names in chronological order lead singers and vocalists who have filled in, work with (for a short time) or replaced members in the past 40 years as best as I remember. Mike Kelly (lead-1964 to 1979)… Larry Casanova_(vocalist-mid 1970’s to 1979)…Frank Cirell (early 1970's lead)......
Tom Petillo_(lead_1978 to 1979 then with (Salvatos Duprees) 1983 to 1986_ then with (Arnone Duprees)(2001 to present)…. Phil Granito (early 1980's to present)...Tony Testa early 1980's to present)...Jimmy Spinelli (mid 1980's to present)...Allan Ladda(vocalist-early 1980’s)…..Richie Rosatto_(lead-1981 to 2001)… Larry Caton_(vocalist-early 1980)…..Mike Shavo_(lead-early 1980’s)….Bobby Valli_(vocalist-early 1980’s)….Vinny Crecca_ (vocalist-early 1980’s)….Tom Biaglow_ (vocalist-1980’s) Anthony Cagiano_ (lead-2000-2001)…Johnny Rand_(lead-2003)…

I agree!
Thank you for your kind words lynn.
Hi Tommy we re out here still listening and loving this music,Thanks
Thanks Gil...great to hear from you. I once knew a Gil Torres from UGHA, is that you? T
Thank you for posting this!! :)
1 WORD WOW, MIKES VOICE IS 2ND TO NONE
Very like the association
These guys. Along with Frankie Valli & the 4 Seasons, The Association , da, da ,da, The 4 Tops Temptations Spinners , when this was the norm for real music
Great Song Tommy. I must have moved into Rock that year to have never heard it.
This song is pretty hard (lingo from that era). Absolutely gorgeous.
WOW TOMMY I REMEMBER YOU ON SPOTLIGHT..SO MANY GREAT MEMORIE'S YOU MADE...THANK YOU....JOYCE (BIG AL)
Wonderful!
Teen thouhts come forward after 50 years!

Really great video. Thanks much for sharing .Very happy.
1969 ? They are still in our hearts -
Looking at that tape, I have to say that Tommy grew into oe handsome man.
What a wonderful trip down memory lane . The sound was spectacular. We always say .....Kids today havent a clue what music really is. Fun beautiful and mostly a relaxing addition to your day.
Gods blessings to you and yours, and Thank you once again
Tom I kinda loved Mike Kelly soulful voice and Joey to both great singers Mike was with them 14 years.
Mike Kelly sang first. Then Joey Vann joined the group. He left and Mike Kelly returned. Then Tom Petillo joined in 1978 after Mike Kelly left.
Marvellous!
I love Walt! Talent agent, always looking for the next super group. His was a school teacher . He was real close to the The Four Seasons, knew everything about them. Always enjoyed running in to him.
Love this song Thank you so much
I finally got a good history report of the Dupree's, from watching the Vinny Vella program. The end of the show is the most depressing experience ever but when the performance is on it's like magic!.
OK Lou, I look forward to seeing you as always.
+Tommy Petillo in 1982, Joey Vann sang at my club in Sayreville NJ...Mr.Flynns Pub...still had the voice, but had other problems...RIP Joey Vann
He sang with 3 other guys, a guitarist--a drummer and a key board player...they HE sounded great, but he never paid the other guys..the other guys came back the next week with another singer..called themselves "Class"
How I love the music of the Duprees.......ALL of them.........
This is Music...
Marilyn
On this video I thought this was Mike Kelly ? ? He really looks like the singer I saw on PBS Doo Wop Program ----- and some of the video's shown here on RUclips --
As a fan and dear friend of Mike Kelly... i agree with Tom Biologlow when he said at the time of Mikes death...Mike had a Velvet Voice ! He was a one of a kind voice & man!!! ❤️🎶
cheryl lee wagner yes he did I dated mike when I was 17 gentleman for sure! I’ll never forget him or his voice.
no one can touch the originals. The Duprees today are good but none can touch Joey Vanns perfect pitch!!!!
Agree 100%. Anyone who heard them in person ,as I did, knows how magical they were.
T.Y. JULES

ONE OF THE ALL TIME GROUPS/ TYVM
Tommy, what an absolutely beautiful song! I have seen you quite a few times in the last few years in South Florida, (will also be seeing you October 25 and March 17) I have never heard this before.....do you ever currently perform this song?
The only station in NYC who played that great song, Goodnight My Love was WOR-FM and it was big hit there in Nov.-Dec. `68.My personal favorite by them was I`m Yours & my second favorite is I Understand(1965-Columbia).That was great too.
Mike Kelly was so handsome!! wow..
Palmbeachbum922 and a gentleman
John Thomas wow that’s surprising I dated mike in 1969 and I saw no drugs he was a perfect gentleman so sad
I think of more than a few ladies I'd have liked to dance with to this song. My sophmore college year
charted on all three major charts of the day but just bubbled on the hot 100 on billboard but made it on cashbox and record world..must have been a good seller on the east coast
FABULOUS!!! Archived video and song of The Duprees. Dougie DooWop
You vere good grop i like that kind groups
+Jamie Reilly i agree
joey vann couldnt touch mike kelly..he had the hits but nowhere near the soul mike had
Sounds like folks who never heard the group live when Joey was the lead. ALL the hits were with Joey in the lead.
#TheDuprees.
Thanks to Walt Golinder this clip made it to the public.
How is Walt Gollender? Used to see him from time to time. I think I have a photo of him with John Salvato's Duprees somewhere. Thanks for posting.
Tommy reminds me of Tony Soprano here
so sad that Mike, Joe, Joey and John all passed way too soon
think that john is still alive but due to various issues doesnt sing with the duprees
my christ they are super n ever heard of them here in IRELAND
None that we know of unfortunitley. TP
George Restivo
My cuz Joe Cataldo told me that Mike sang the demos.
Luv the Duprees!!!!!!
You looked good. You look even better now.
That's the late Joe Santollo on the far right.......
Dan Caputi
To anybody reading the comments-
Can you please let me know of any other music that sounds similar to the Dupree’s album: Delicious- The Heritage Years?
There's a CD from "oldies but goodies" with 24 recordings of the original group made in 1962. It's fabulous.
RIP guys the best
This guy got better looking with age!!
joey vann was his stage name-his real name was chubby canzano from jersey city,nj I knew and sang with joe santollo.
