Love this video !!! All the great aircraft , DC-9, B-727, and B-737-200 are gone !! I miss the sound of the Pratt & Whitney JT8D's. Now all you hear are the Hoover Vacuum cleaner engines.
Thanks for uploading this! Flew on many DC-9's back in the day with Northwest. Husband and I both remember a DC-9-10 on a flight from Louisville to Detroit one time, think back in the late 1990's. Exterior looked like a battered old frying pan! But it got us to Detroit with no problems - only to have our connecting flight on a much newer 757 delayed for several hours by mechanical problems. Also wanted to say I was struck by how courteous the flight attendant was. I know it was just a script he was given to read, but still good customer relations at play.
ahh the great 50 min flight :) ,, if you leave chicago, you get to detroit almost 2 hours later because of the change frome CST to EST ,, but if you take the Same flight from Detroit to Chicago , you actually get to Chicago local time before the time you actually Left Detroit :) LOL because obviously the Change from EST to CST :) always found that funny
I was based at led during this time and I miss those sounds and these planes. I remember seeing them constantly, and we were always wondering how much longer we’d see them.
wish the packs weren't so damn loud on these things. Even these days on the 717's, when the engines spool up sometimes, its drowned out by the packs blasting. I think that's what that is at least.
north central was a good airline in the 80s :) , Way better than the Defunct Braniff ,, LOL i remember in late 1989 Braniff was doing all these 40 dollar special flights,, I had just got out of bootcamp in the Navy in San Diego, and was going home for a week before going to my school ,and when we got to the airport ( i am from the detroit area so Northwest was only one with NON Stop flight so i took that ) there were over 200 people in the Lines for Braniff , and there was notifications that were posted at the checkin / ticket counter ( Yes youngings before Kiosks Everyone had to actually check in at the Ticket counter LOL ) Braniff went belly up and Filed bankruptcy LOL so many people were diverted to other airlines :P , anyhow yeah North Central was a nice bargain airline to FLY :)
Yes sir! One of the best damn airplanes ever created. This particular DC-9 was supposed to fly with North Central and by the time it was on the line - North Central became Republic. So this gorgeous bird flew for Republic/Northwest & Delta
@@jonahair747 I prefer the 727 over the DC 9 but both were awesome,, Youngins today will never be able to experience the 727 , DC 9 ( yeah i know they changed to current MD80s and other models , but just not the same to me ) , DC-10 and L-1011s , yeah i miss NC, and Northwest ,, Being here in Detroit because here and Minneapolis were the Hubs for them .
Haha no - believe it or not, that high pitch “screaming” sound was the air supply. It was extremely cold out that day during the snowstorm, the pilots turned up the air to full blast! It got pretty warm and cozy in there haha!
Those are the best qualities about her!! I wish she was still in the air, if she was, my feet would never touch the ground. I’d always be flying on them again hahah!

Thank you! And you couldn’t have said it any better. I agree with you 100%!
well i loved the 727 sounds , TWA always had the Best sounding ones thats for sure , yeah i miss all the old ones from the 70s/80s
A "whisperjet" -- I love it!
Incredible job capturing so many up close views, great camera quality! What a throwback! So fun to see this, thanks for sharing 👍

Way better looking than any modern jetliners.
Couldn't agree more 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿💯💯💯💯💯

I actually flew the exact route numerous times a few decades ago
Great Vid, thanks for sharing a classic!
ПО
Thank you!! And it’s my pleasure!
My mom worked for Ozark Airlines and flying on their DC-9s as a kid was a treat
I was based at led during this time and I miss those sounds and these planes. I remember seeing them constantly, and we were always wondering how much longer we’d see them.

Awesome
Thank you bro! 🤙
The registration ending (NC) is North Central Airlines. The order was placed by this operator but never taken up...
Yep, you’re right! By the time she came onto the line - it was Republic Airlines

flew the md 88 and md 90 6 years ago from hartford to myrtle beach
Wow, a DC-9 in 2013, thought it would be an MD80, pretty cool. I take the offshoot of this to Greensboro from Atlanta the B-717.
That’s a.Boeing plane.
Delta retired the -51’s in the beginning of 2014. These were some of the last flights about a month before they retired
@@habyss Boeing bought McDonnell Douglas and renamed the MD-95 (which is a progression based on the DC-9) to the 717.
I worked at ORD (not for Delta) in December of 2013. That was a brutal winter.
I remember! I flew many DC-9’s into ORD that winter, this storm was one of the more severe ones that blew on through
Long live the Mad Dogs!
That's a DC9 not a MD80
@@ericjones7769 I'm very aware of that. Same family.
@Matt-mo8sl same family but still different planes
Was allowed to visit the captain in the cockpit late 1990s. Panel looked similar to my Cessna.
Love those six pack gauges
That's an old timer: 'NC', North Central Airlines.

Detroit!!!!!
You're a braver man than I am. No way I would board that flight with that weather.
A very simple aircraft and really fun to fly
Delta still has a few 717's
You’re absolutely right! & Delta has about 70 or 80 717’s currently. They’ll be around for a while 🤙 The only thing missing are the JT8D’s…
Man it sounds like you're riding backseat in a fighter jet. lol Is that the de-icing system?

@@jonahair747 Haha! Nice, that heating system could probably rival the systems of modern aircraft.
Do you have any more dc-9 cockpit videos from back then?
I do! Stay tuned for more! More DC-9 videos coming soon
@ can’t wait I’ll be looking forward to it!
These should still be flying....They might be older, smokey and loud but, nonetheless very capable. Sent out to pasture too soon.

Some of these 9’s were built in the late 60’s.
Yep! The -15’s & -30’s were built in that time
@
Wasn’t there a -10 series too ? Speedster
I thought they retired them
Did you watch the beginning of the video? It tells you all the info you need regarding that question
If only these aircrafts were the new guys on the block.
