I've been getting some comments from people about how the fairy lore reminds them of the Tinkerbell movies, which apparently also have seasonal fairies! :0
I've never actually seen any of the Tinkerbell/Pixie Hollow movies so I had no idea 😭 While I didn't take any inspiration from Pixie Hollow, the autumn fairies having leaf wings were def inspired by the earth faerie from Neopets LOL

A good backstory is like the anchor of a ship. Something to keep your character grounded in the rough times, something to be drugged up and exposed, and sometimes something that needs to be laid bare and untouched for a while to allow your character to go places.
Can we appreciate how Emily also named her animal crossing island plumeria?

Every Dm knows the role of a characters family is to get murdered
Older editions of D&D had playable Fairies and Pixies through books like Savage Species (from 3rd edition). Dnd has always been a free form game allowing players to homebrew whatever they want though, assuming you know how the format for that edition.
Emirichu's friends: "Just come up with some character and let's play D&D"
Emirichu: Invents the entire world of mythical creatures, designs their cities, jobs, clothes, culture, character looks, hairstyles, different types of anatomically accurate wings, and spices it up with storytelling that might be a pitch for an entire anime series that I could totally watch :D

That's a beautiful backstory and I got so absorbed I actually said "oh no..." out loud when Robin didn't come back....I do hope he was merely captured instead of killed and that Plumeria can find him again.

There's a bunch of species that don't actually exist in the books but have been "fanfic'd" into existence on the internet. For example, i played a merfolk once, and since they aren't in the book i had to look up stats and traits that others had come up with so i could craft my character.
if you wanna play that race, because you REALLY wanna play that race, I'd allow it. If you want to min max, play something else.

Me listening to the fairy backstory: I didn’t know this was a nature program but I am digging this.
Emily’s character backstory: 4 comics, deep lore, a lost sister and other character based plot hooks
My characters: big man swing sword good, am good adventurer.
One of mine: "Cursed with Half Drow heritage, Norma was blessed with kind parents with a human father and a Drow mother who rejected her evil ways and raised her. Getting herself enlightened by the Eilistraee community and suppressing her evil nature, Norma decided to set off on an adventure to help the people to redeem her race."
Mine is a little weasel:
Robben Cromwell, a human mastermind rogue who always loved helping his town, then the kingdom started to abuse of taxes, so Robben started some sort of revolution, eventually, he won, but the kingdom got his revenge by capturing him and turning him into a weasel to experiment alchemy with him. He then escaped and relearned to talk common and even evolved to speak telepathically, now he just wants to live peacefully, doing magic tricks for children, playing chess and joking about himself
one of my players backstory was that she was a Tiefling who was kicked out of hell for being to much of a destructive chiky sh][t
I `m not kidding other than than the name and how she met her familliar that`s it
Mine:
A human warlock who’s mother gave up her life so a powerful demon would save her son’s life.
The demon took the deal but has to constantly be half-possessing my character to keep him alive.
He can only survive ten minutes without the demon, and he’s unconscious for a long time afterwards.
My turn:
Abyss Froststar, later renamed and titled Abyss "Greyback" Froststar - Orc friend, is a mighty 6'6" white Tiefling barbarian hailing from the frozen north. Throughout his early life, living and working around his village, he learned that humankind did not treat his so kindly do to their infernal heritage, and grew to dislike them as a whole. Then when his father allowed him to start working as a convoy escort he gave him this advice, "Mistrusting those that treat you poorly is fair, but always remember that those that are willing to part with their coin are always tolerable."
Finally the day came when Abyss felt the urge to venture out from home without the call of coin as his guide, and so he readied a pack and said his goodbye's before stepping out into the wide world to see what it provided. 10 years later Abyss would emerge into society with his new name and title, now wielding a mighty orcish made waraxe (a parting gift from his friend and clan brother Orlic Greymane clan chief).
And this is where his campaign would begin if we could ever schedule a starting date.

To make a character, all you need is the players handbook and a character sheet that you can easily print out
I actually like making characters. If anything is still unclear, I could perhaps assist. There are a lot of confusing aspects, especially for someone who hasn't made a character before.

Depends on the type, fae, little folk, sprites, attempting to translate everything to one language tends to get people to merge them in their minds, but they often had different names few remember nowadays...
Ran a game where the party encountered a group of fairies who harassed the party trying to find one of their kidnaped fairy sister. The group eventually made a deal with the cadre of fairies to rescue their lost sister. Made for an interesting side quest.

They turned it into something they think young adults want to watch when in fact it feels like old people saying “hello fellow kids” while trying to fit in and failing badly.
Plumeria must’ve also heard stories of Link trapping fairies in bottles, and that’s why she was scared of Robin.
Now that I think about it, Link's kind of a dick.

@@IggyTthunders tbh the depiction of Faeries in Elizabethan era was also kinda cool.. especially with Faerie King Oberon and Queen Titania were depicted as human sized mysterious and powerful.. but still nothing compared to the Celtic myths and superstitions of the most Metal Faeries.. killing travellers, playing mindgames, kidnaping and swapping younglings and sometimes eating humans.. shit happened when stories started to get disnified..

I feel like I went from a Fairy-ology esque book to the fantasy romance manga I used to binge... ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT.

So from her perspective, she thinks that she didn't fleshed out her OC and the world around her all that much, but for the rest of us she pretty much did the pilot of an anime in less than 20 minutes, that's impressive.
