    I agree with overconsumption even with "sustainable" companies and I love how sensible you are with this video especially for people who are really new to this!I am so glad my mom taught me to always follow my own style and not fall for trends and quality over quantity! I'd love to do more second hand but where I am, the second hand shops are soooo.."blah" in quality and style.

      That’s so cool that your mom taught you that! 🥰

    Oh man I feel like you're speaking to me for some of these! Finding affordable/sustainable brands and the t-shirt comparison ($3 tee vs $15) is totally me. I'm still baffled at paying more than maybe $8 for a basic shirt but you're right, it's made out of crap PLUS I end up replacing it so, so fast. I'm like how you used to be, super happy when I can buy X number of items for only $X! I'm definitely working on it though (recently went to Goodwill and was SUPER intentional with the materials I was buying --- all of my stuff was either cotton or wool!). In one of your videos you mentioned tracking your closet/shopping and I've begun to do that as well for this year... So eye-opening!

      Yes! It’s still hard for me to buy a tshirt for $15 too 😂 but if I do that maybe twice a year it’s not super painful 😁

    I watched the video „live“ today and think it was one of your best so far, Val! I like outfit repeating on others and recognizing someone‘s style a lot more than seeing people with constantly new clothes and constantly new personal images.

    Great video Val! I have a thrift store in my area where every article of clothing is only $1, and it doesn't matter what brand it is or anything...and their shoes are only $3 a pair no matter what brand as well. Over the last few years, this place has afforded me the ability to really hone in on my specific style, and dress accordingly. Yes... I have made a lot of mistake purchases, and it's so easy to do whenever every piece of clothing is only $1, but once I figured out a color palette of 4 or 5 colors that I loved to wear, as well as what fibers (NO POLYESTER or SYNTHETICS...EVER) felt best on my skin... I was really able to get down to business and curate a wardrobe where every single item in it is my favorite! I feel like everybody deserves to be able to have good quality clothes, and secondhand shopping is the absolute best way to achieve that. I love your channel because of your honesty and integrity. Thank you for this video, the message is so necessary. Peace and blessings to you and your family. 😊🙏

    Great tips Val! An interesting find concerning fabrics… I don’t get staticky hair anymore since wearing natural fibers. Sometimes with wool I might if the air is particularly dry or I just did a clarifying shampoo and didn’t apply hair product to add moisturizer back in, but not usually.
    I thrift a lot of my clothing, but utilize Poshmark and Mercari to find specific items on my wishlist too. Sometimes, I wonder if all the shipping is truly sustainable so I do this kind of shopping minimally. I like the comparison you made between home and clothing! We seek quality furniture and shop around for it because we need it to hold up against use. We should absolutely cross this mindset into clothing! When shopping is pursued to fill a need rather than a fun, recreational activity, our mindset shifts to more conscious and careful consumption.

    • @ValKovalchuk
      @ValKovalchuk  2 года назад +1

      Yes it was such an interesting comparison that makes a lot of sense I think! And that’s so interesting about fabrics, I am so tired of feeling staticky, I still have a few joggers that are polyester and sometimes it’s hard to wear them 😅

    Thanks Val, another great video. I have wish lists for my favourite stores online, but writing down a wish list with my priorities has helped me a lot. I love your saying, "Take advantage of sales but don't let sales take advantage of you".

    • @ValKovalchuk
      @ValKovalchuk  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Andrea! Yeah wish lists are so helpful, I’m in the process of planning what my top ten purchases are going to be this year and that makes me excited to buy them, instead of guilty that I’m shopping to much!

    Great tips ! I do keep what I love and use all the time ! I mentioned before that I now buy from stores I love ( I will order on line or go into the store such as Everlane, J Crew, Old Navy, Target , Quince ) I do have a thrift store that I donated a lot of my clothes to that I’ve picked up some items, I’ve never ordered from Poshmark or Thread Up ! And it must be all cotton or cashmere ! Thanks ☺️

    Hey Val! Love how you compared Christmas decor and seasonal clothing! So good! I also store away my seasonal clothing and often regret getting rid of pieces at the end of the season when that season comes around next year and I’m looking for that sweater 🤦🏽‍♀️ I miss thrift shops in Portland! I was able to get some incredible pieces there! Not so much here in the south 😅 Love that you’re keeping up with your channel even though it takes SO MUCH WORK! Hope you and yours are doing wonderful ❤️❤️❤️

    My tops only last half a year most the time because they get stained with sweat 😬 so I don't like to buy expensive ones. But I will spend more on other items.

    • @ValKovalchuk
      @ValKovalchuk  Год назад +1

      that sounds like a great plan, I also don't spend a lot on basic t shirts, because they get worn so much more often and get worn out quicker! 😅

    Anybody watching from Europe (Switzerland specifically) who can recommend some good sustainable non bank breaking brands please?

  • @aaas6348
    @aaas6348 2 года назад +1

    Thanks for the tips and suggestion dear. I bought numerous bodycon dress and polyester things over the years and they always end up in the bin. I don't normally buy clothes much. Those links on your suggestions, have you ever brought something from there especially pact and kotn and what do you think it? It's quite pricey

    • @ValKovalchuk
      @ValKovalchuk  2 года назад +2

      I've bought kids clothes from pact before, I would say the fabrics were nice and sturdy, but maybe too expensive for kids because mine are pretty rough on their clothes. I haven't tried kotn before, but I like that they have a lot of basic simple styles. But they are definitely the most expensive of that list, I would recommend Everlane instead. They are a little more affordable. And I also really like Nisolo and Quince as well.
