    I found that adding gaskets to the hopper lid made a huge difference in how much charcoal burns and how fast the grill cools down. Mine always had smoke seeping from around the lid before adding the gasket. My temp control improved a lot too.

    I usually put some foil in the drip pan for easy cleanup. Great tips Tom! 👍

    I noticed you don’t have the gasket material on the hopper door that you had installed a while back. Was it no longer needed?

      Thanks for Watching! The gasket I put on the Char Griller 980 was on the charcoal fill. You’re thinking of the Masterbuilt 560 that I did both on

    • @Starriddin
      @Starriddin 2 года назад +1

      @@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ No, I didn’t see it on the 980 Hopper door. I watched you 980 video where you put a gasket on the top hopper door with the Fireblack gasket. I didn’t see it in this video, thus, the question.

      Ok. Need to look closer it is there, not on the door itself but on the top of the unit

    Just give it a little tap tapparoo, would have been perfect for a Happy Gilmore voice over. I take a fire poker and tap it from the top and use the hook part of the poker on the bottom just sifting the charcoal.

    I had mine for a week. Burned through a full chute of charcoal in about 4-5 hours in slow cooking. Wouldn't make max temperature all the time. Wouldn't maintain low temperatures all the time. Warped the charcoal chute badly enough it couldn't be removed. I only used it about six times and it was pretty much dead. Returned it to Lowes for a refund. Mine was delivered damaged. Considering trying again or moving on to a Masterbuilt 1050.

      Thanks for Watching Joe! It is up to you! Haven’t had an issue with mine, if it was assembled by Lowes, that maybe the issue. Lots of others are having issues with Lowes assembly especially putting the fire box in facing the wrong direction, which could account for you having temp control issues and warpage

    • @JoeSevy
      @JoeSevy 2 года назад +1

      @@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ I don't get how it could function at all with the firebox in backwards. Regardless, I assembled it. Firebox was in correctly.

    • @TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ
      @TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ  2 года назад

      Ok, some have received assembled with the box turned 180

    • @JoeSevy
      @JoeSevy 2 года назад +1

      @@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ I get that. I don't get how it would even function poorly if it was backwards. I can see that it might sort of almost function. And I see how that would warp the outer layers around the chute. In my case it was the chute that warped.

    • @TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ
      @TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ  2 года назад

      Ok, just curious as to what you think the issue was…
