For a perfect circle, i just follow SpongeBob's tutorial:
    step 1: draw a face
    step 2: erase the details

Curious. I had when young a "spirograph", not exactly the same thing, but not too different either. Thanks for sharing !

Quite a nice little design. There have been times in my life - not too many admittedly - when that ellipse jig would have been fantastically useful. It's not versatile enough to justify the outlay as a general draughting tool, but clearly it's aimed at a rather specific activity and as such ought to enjoy some success if they've accurately assessed the size of the market. A useful review as usual, thanks Teoh.

I'll stick to a good pair of compasses and protractor: more versatile and less fiddly.

I imagine you could just rotate the small circle and draw dashes again so you dont have to connect the lines free hand

      Good idea

An interesting device. I think the sticky back could pose a problem by being too sticky (as you said) and then eventually it stops being sticky and you have a free-moving disc with no function

I only ever used my regular compass and ruler to draw mandalas with, the only downside being that the compass only works with lead fills, not with ink pens. My mandala never were as complex as the examples you showed from their Instagram, but that always was adamn good way to doodle away when being in class and being stuck with tasks (or already finished with them) ^^' Just like colouring Mandala art in has been a tried and true way for me to unwind and calm down ever since primary school 🥰
Btw, the ellipse function of this nice little gadget, seems pretty neat - it's such a hassle to construct those with compass only as it is traditionally done in technical drawings !

I use a protractor and have good results. What happens when the double sided tape wears out?

Hi! Thank you for all your videos! I was curious about this because I am geeky about shape and angle making tools :-) it was hard too see the value of using such a complex and highly engineered tool because my simple tools (compass, protractor and quilters ruler with an angle-making template) can do everything but the giant ellipse, as others have said. Noticing all the nifty symbols and options I went to the kickstarter. Wow! The flexibility in making all those other shapes!

I don't need it but I want it. I imagine it would be nice for making color wheels too! Thank you for reviewing art tools. I miss Singapore so much and I regret not buying the watercolor book the auntie at Straits recommended.

Looks curious and useful, but a spirograph and a bunch of stencils are way more cheaper. It's not super affordable. Thank you for the review!

Interesting tool. Can see where it could be useful for geometric art. Love the large ellipses. Appreciate the large circle capability without the compass center pin prick.

I think I would place the pencil back in the center of the disk and try to rotate the disk to have guidance to connect the gaps.
You did great connecting the gap freehand so maybe that is the best way.
Also Im going to add cleaning the ruler edge to my drawing habits now thanks to you.
Ive always tried to avoid getting ink on the edge. Would use beveled rulers and invert them and spend too much concentration on pressing them down and keeping my hand posture vertical because only the barrel made contact with the edge.
If i could have just accepted that the edge will get ink on it and wiping it off is a part of the process, so much time would have been saved.
    Duh.
    Thanks.

😂 ”you should probably refer to the manual.. but uh that would be too complicated for me!” You are too funny!

I have a different tool from this company and it’s great. But it cost $95. For this one, they want $63 for the + $50 shipping. Good tools, but can’t say they are worth the money.

Is it possible that metal piece is an eraser guide?
    This seems really cool:)

Nifty for mandala makers. I'll stick with a compass and protractor for my much simpler needs 😄

How would you compare this to a geometric compass tool?

There was a piece missing from the kit they sent you. You can see it in this video of theirs at minute 01:25: ruclips.net/video/VBiOy13EcAc/видео.html
It’s an innovative device but it’s a bit expensive at the equivalent of $63 USD. I expected the bottom of the contraption would be magnetic as well, rather than have double sided tape; I imagined they would include a thin, identically sized stainless steel disc that would be placed under the paper and the contraption on top of the paper. For someone who does a lot of geometric illustration I suppose it’s a good investment.

I think a mechanical pencil was in that empty space in the box. What an interesting item to have- let us know what you're going to do with it, OK?
