Greatest day ever! Watching that game; I just barely remembered the 1987 GF but this one I will never forget! They were amazing all season! What I didn’t know is that this was the last GF win and in 7 years we would win our first wooden spoon and enter the darkest times of the best footy club in Australia! I bleed blue and was born to be a Carlton fan for life both my Pop and I were born in Carlton premiership seasons..1915 and 1981! With the list we are building now...if won’t be long before we start challenging for a premiership
My first GF at the “G” as a neutral supporter it was a sleepy game 😴💤💤💤 but still a spectacul and in fairness to the Cats, the Blues they were unstoppable in 95 and well deserved victory 👏
Just before Norm Smith was announced I would put money on Anthony Koutoufides been the winner. The stats do justify Greg William winning it but I felt watching the game I thought Koutoufides was phenomenal that day.
A shame the game didn't live up to its first quarter (and the game earlier that year when Carlton won by 3 points). Cats didn't handle the pressure in the second and all was lost. It showed how well they were going when Camporeale sat on the bench for the whole first half. Happy for Diesel to win the Norm Smith considering he was robbed of the Brownlow in 93 but OMG Peter Dean was incredible all day. That backline was invincible. Sadly the wheels fell off big time the following year with Pearce doing his knee, Williams missed half the year because Ross Oakley sucked (Wayne Jackson said it would never have happened if he'd been in charge), Andy McKay quit to do vetinary science, Christou had a back injury and was never the same player and Carlton's drafting was nothing short of disastrous (although they did get Justin Murphy). 95 was the banner year (with virtually no injuries) that Carlton never got close to again

@J G well mate if you love soccer good for you but I doubt soccer will ever pull a hundred thousand on a regular basis like afl you have to be a complete athlete to play afl soccer is nowhere near physical enough for my liking
The problem with footy these days? Transport that first quarter to today and there'd be 957 freekicks paid and probably a dozen reports! And that "Pussy Power" banner... lmao that supporter would be jailed for life in today's messed up society!!
People would be absolutely laughing their arses off if the Cats ran through a banner with that slogan nowadays. Still not nearly as hilarious as Fitzroy's infamous "Lick Them Pussy's" banner from 1981. People would be crying of laughter seeing that banner go up nowadays
The days of real football, now it's just a girls game, too many rules and my opinion the best games were wet weather, it rains nowadays they just close the roof for the sooks
This was when Carlton was awesome. The last of the great football teams before the afl ruined footy for ever. . I was a die hard supporter then. Now Carlton is just a recruiting office for the crow throw filth. Stuff em. Im a Tigers supporter now and I never looked back.
It must be said, this grand final was a major disappointment to anyone except the most ardent Carlton supporters. It’s a real shame the Cats did not find their rhythm that afternoon - they were a MUCH better side then they showed in that grand final, but just could not get it going. Gary Ablett was in fact very lively in the first quarter and found the ball quite a bit - what would have happened if he had of nailed some of those shots he had in the first term? It could have changed the momentum of the whole match. But alas, it was not to be. Full credit to the blues, they were on song and determined and disciplined and deserved their victory, but the earlier season matchup at princess park where the margin was only 3 points was a better indication of how great both these sides were that year rather than this disappointing game. Quite a let down for the neutrals and the crowd that was predominantly Geelong (and the visual disappointment shown on Bobby Davis’s face when he had to present all the medals to the Carlton players at the conclusion of the match). The cats trio of grand final victories just over a decade later were made all the more sweeter after the disappointment of days like this in 1995. The blues are still yet to taste the ultimate victory again themselves (with some of their own misdemeanors to blame)... be interesting to see what transpires in the next few years!
The fact the Cats lost the 89, 92 and 94 was a blessing to Crows fans . Blighty by then had had enough and left the coaches box only to be enticed back by Adelaide . The rest is history just like this match
@@eduardocarroccio6162 I was at the game and I remember the support for Geelong being phenomenal - it was at least a 3-1 ratio of Geelong fans over Carlton fans at the match - and also (somewhat surprisingly) walking through Melboirne city during grand final week seemed to have more shopfronts supporting the cats (almost as much as in Geelong itself). It was really unfortunate the team could not deliver that afternoon - but I think they have made up for it since!
@@jasonvandermeer9854 Neutrals supporting Geelong yes not actual Geelong supporters. I was at the parade on the Friday out of the 150,000 it was 75% Carlton. Carlton had around 30 to 33,000 supporters at the game Geelong had less allocation but all neutrals and corporates were supporting Geelong. Same for the 2001 GF very pro Brisbane Lions due to the neutrals, corporates AFL members and MCC. Grand Finals are mostly supporters from other clubs Prelims are a true indication of support Carlton would outnumber Geelong more tickets to competing members/public and a bigger following.
It's a shame that Carlton have been paying for this flag ever since. How far over the salary cap were they again in 1995? 27 years since, 1 grand final appearance in 1999 and nothing since...........
This style of play is far better to watch than what they serve up today
Greg Williams leaving Geelong after two seasons definitely cost the cats a few flags, what a player
And the umpires back then didn't try to destroy the game like they do nowadays.
