  • Today, a quick review talking about two small "Peanut" style lighters, the Maratac Peanut XL (in Ti) and the NuMyth Tohil. They're a great option for keeping some fire with you in a small, relatively safe and inert package.

    "I don't smoke unless I'm on fire" funniest moment of my day 😂😂

  • @tomg4892
    @tomg4892 6 лет назад +14

    I had a Tohil for a few months. It was cool until it wouldn't light one day when I was hiking in the winter. I couldn't light my hand warmer for anything while out in the snow and wind. Then another day, the striker wheel just fell off. Put it back together a few times. Finally tossed it and bought a butane torch type lighter (and a spare) for winter hiking. Definitely will never trust my safety to one of these again. Nick, Thanks for the interesting reviews.

    Nick, I realize that you had a quarter in frame for a minute, but I can't figure out the exact size. I wish you held the lighters up to something more recognizable, a spiderco delica possibly?

    Just a tip, but you can actually refill a lot of disposable lighters! Some of them have a little port on the bottom that you can put butane in.

    biggest drawback to the peanut style is mandatory two hand operation. however the millennia old technique of getting a light into odd places is to light something else first and use it as a wand

    Does every issue apply to both lighters? Seemed like maybe you were talking about the titanium the whole time. Lol!! Like does the red one take a few strikes to light? And is it as heavy as the titanium one?

    While not as "pretty" as this, there are cases just for Bic lighters, mine is made by" Exotac" it even floats should the need be, about $15 if memory serves, but hey, to each their own.

  • @dankhimself

    Why didn't you disassemble the red one completely and show us the material the insert is made of? You seemed to only be focused on the stainless steel (or titanium?) one the whole video. You also said the silver colored one was stainless steel, then said it was titanium, which is it?
    The insert information is was bothered me about the red lighter, we didn't get to know.
    I looked them up myself but just a little constructive criticism.
    Unless you just wanted to handle the one more and show it being lit more to draw focus away from the other for some reason. I doubt it unless you like free lighters.
    Cool video though, clear visual and you talk throughout the whole video, somehow without actually going through more than a few uses for a lighter.

    • @nuclearbeige3038

      Bics cost a lot over a lifetime in my area they are $2 per lighter let's say that you buy 10 Bic lighters over the course of a year 7 or 8 of them get stolen or lost that's almost 20 dollars down the drain petroleum lighters like the peanut style lighters here or zippos and imco lighters work on gasoline/petrol and white gas very well not just Zippo lighter fluid white gas is $8.99 a gallon where I live. A Bic will provide one continuous light for about 60 minutes so if we divide it up into 6 second lights that equals 1000 lights to a lighter and then it goes into the garbage now I don't know about peanut style lighters but I know that the Zippos take about five milliliters of fuel to fill one gallon of white gas costs 8.99 as I said. a gallon contains give or take 3750mL of fluid which equals out to .002 cents per mL it costs 1 cent in USD to fill a Zippo and a Zippo can run for 21 minutes fully filled about 300 6 second lights while it costs $2 to buy a Bic a gallon of Coleman fuel can fill your Zippo 750 times giving you about 225,000 lights per gallon that is 225 Bic lighters saved. Of course this does not account for costs like flints and wicks but the cost to opperate a Zippo is far cheaper than bics plus a petroleum lighter will work at -40c/-40f (same temp) butane starts to freeze past about negative 10 because at 32 Fahrenheit butane starts to boil the onlyreason the butane does not leak out of a Bic lighter is because it's pressurized there are pros and cons to every type of lighter I prefer petroleum lighters that's me they work for my endeavors Bic lighters might work for yours it's all a matter of preference

  • @georgiivanov61
    @georgiivanov61 6 лет назад

    I really can't see this style of lighters work in the city.
    The disposable lighters for 20 cents are just too good, too light and too accessible. If "fuel leakage" is a concern, just get the "electric" ones without the strike wheel.
    Maybe in a survival situation these lighters make more sense.

    • @cloudcleaver23
      @cloudcleaver23 6 лет назад

      They're definitely meant more for survival purposes than anything else.

    • @kidthorazine
      @kidthorazine 6 лет назад

      yeah, these are really mainly for survival purposes, or really occasional use on the go if you want to keep one on your keychain or something. I have a couple of lighters like this (I'm a smoker) and they are really cumbersome for any kind of everyday use.
