    Pretty cool lighter! A bit pricey. If you get a chance, check out the Saberlight Sparq plasma lighter. It's very well made, rechargeable, and definitely has a wow factor when you fire it up. It's windproof and only costs $16. There is a long stick version that I use to light the BBQ grill and works well on candles. Every time I use either one around friends or family, everyone wants to play with it...

    Hello...I have a Douglas Field Lighter S and I’m having a problem with the wick getting singed and then just smoldering instead of having a regular flame. Any idea what could be causing this? I put in a brand new wick from Douglas, but it’s still doing the same thing.

  • @mountman5386
    @mountman5386 7 лет назад +2

    Hope that you review a few more lighters, including the ones you quickly showed in this video. This looks purpose designed to light a cigarette or perhaps a wick you manoeuvre to suit (Molotov cocktail?!) that you would hold downwards over the flame. For everyday candle or gas stove/lamp lighting, maybe not so much. It might be a good survival tool to light a wood fire in an emergency but even then if you light bush fires regularly I'm sure there are better options that would make the job easier.
    Weight is 2.35oz BTW.

    That's a cool lighter. I'll have to try one out.
    I carry a Zippo (1 of a 100 or so). I have them from late 1936 to the present but 85% are pre-1968. The best ones made (quality & longevity wise) were made from 1954 to 1957. Find one in nice shape from those years and you'll see what I mean. Thanks for the review.

    • @Beery1962
      @Beery1962 Год назад +2

      Zippo is a knock-off of an Austrian IMCO lighter from 1929. Zippo copied the Austrian design, but they removed the tiny hinged wick cap of the Austrian lighter, and replaced it with a large hinged lid. This resulted in a very large space inside the lighter lid where fuel vapors could build up: these then escaped much faster due to the relatively large junction between the lighter's lid and the body. So Zippos are worse than the lighter they ripped off, and in the last 90 years, Zippo have never even tried to fix the problem.

    If the lid doesn't close how do you change the setting on the ballbearing ring? I have read that somebody did it but didn't specifically elaborate about it. I'm afraid that I will brake it. Is it a clockwise or counter thread? What instruments are suggested to use. Looks very tight to me. Thanks for anybodies advice!

    • @MrNothotenian
      @MrNothotenian Год назад

      Meanwhile I found out something! The users manual says that you just have to oil the lid ring, but never mentiones what to use. I tried some oils (coocking oil, WD 40 etc.) I found out that the best is to use oils which are used in air-cooled engines. My friend has a Harley. I dipped a piece of cotton swab into it, put it on the ring carefully, so that the sparkstone doesn't recieve any, waited a day, dipped it again! Never had that problem since! It doesent matter how hot it gets, it closes.
      One more thing! I didn't just swab the ring but I rotated the ring around its place, on the metal.

  • @Beery1962
    @Beery1962 Год назад

    Reports suggest the Douglass L doesn't retain fuel any longer than an IMCO, so the design of those O-ring seals must be garbage. I've heard the Douglass S retains fuel longer (how long: who knows?), but I hear they have expansion issues due to the lighters being made of aluminum, brass (or brass and steel) rather than all-steel: aluminum and brass heat up faster, and the expansion issues mess with the tight tolerances. Plus there's the price - I can buy 18 IMCOs (not knock-offs) on AliExpress for the price of one Douglass S lighter. I'm sticking with IMCO.

  • @daleschmidt7157
    @daleschmidt7157 6 лет назад

    That's much like the IMCO Austrian Lighters. IMCO Lighters are hard for me to light in the same was as well. It takes a bit of force to activate the lever to light the wick. I too like my IMCO mainly for its design values.

    It's called pressurized butane. Clipper and Bic lighters use it.
    That being said, I was jokingly going to guess that this was going to be priced at just under $100 because jokes lol. Holy fuck. Buy 2 clippers from Walmart for $2 that are refillable and have replaceable flint wheels. The jet flame Zippo inserts or the peanut lighters are also better

    • @GreenLegendRan
      @GreenLegendRan 3 года назад

      And the IMCO's top heating up can be used intentionally as a hand warmer, though it's a big issue for him, in this video, because it's a time limitation. For the IMCO, you yank the fuel chamber out while still lit and his time limit issue is gone.

    I bought one of these. Not even a month ago. From Urban EDC and it’s a piece of crap. The lid on mine won’t close unless screwed shut. You are right. It’s a nice piece of equipment but in the general sense of a lighter it’s a useless and should only be used as a paper weight.
    Urban EDC are useless people too. Don’t buy anything from them. Especially a Douglass field S. You’ll be disappointed.

    WORST experience ever with a manufacturer so far. Mine came defective. The lid wouldn't stay close and always popped open. That was an issue with a tiny ball bearing securing the cap. After several tries, All I had as a response from the seller was that the lighter was just fine and the problem was with me. Horrible customer service to say the least. Mine sits in a drawer, useles, afetr two monts of light use. I cannot say anything positive about this brand as I found myself talking with a dishonnest person who didn't not want to take ANY responsibilities for a defective item. On mmy side, I paid with real non§defective money and just received a piec of garbage for it. Thank you , but, no thanks.....
