Regarding photography, the DJI Air 3 takes a different approach compared to the previous Air 2s. It chooses versatility and functionality rather than sheer photo quality. It is supplied with a smaller 1/1.3″ sensor, but it offers a second telephoto lens and a host of new useful features

I agree with you, the 70mm lens is a game changer. I get shots with it that I can't get with any of my other drones. The Air 3 is already one of my favorite drones. Great video, and thanks for sharing, Vic.

Same! This is a huge reason to buy it. Honestly the only other drone. I'd consider would be thr mavic pro as it has a zoom lense

48mp “yes” but with restrictions. Actually purchased the mini 3 pro for it’s low weight (and lower legal restrictions). I’ve also a Mavic 2 and 3 pro.
As a landscape photographer I’m rather fun of more resolution. I was really very sceptically about the 48mp mode until I did some tests. In my tests I included some pages with different sizes of text. What came out of it was that smaller text in the images was perfectly readable in the 48 mp images but not in the 12mp images. Upgrading the 12mp images with AI programs didn’t make the text any better. So must conclude that the 48mp image resolution is really higher but of course at the cost of dynamic range and more noise.
So when needed I always do noise reduction or/and try to perform an “little” HDR, one image exposed for the sky and one image + 2 stops for the landscape foreground. But sometimes a little drift ruins the shot because of the more time consuming manual mode.
So rather surprised to see that this new drone, DJI Air 3, includes 48mp HDR mode what would simplify a lot my workflow.
Will wait for the mini 4 pro witch hopefully includes the 48 mp HDR…but a software upgrade could maybe do the same…if they want to do it.

Great video Vic! I confirm all your findings on the Air3 and in particular the impressive results in low light compared to my Mini3 (in daylight the difference is less relevant, but still noticeable in the far distance details).
The 70mm is a true surprise for me, but discovering is exactly the same installed on Mavic 3 pro I finally understand why…
Coming back to the main sensor it is clear the reason why they limited the size. A full 1” with the same stacked architecture would have killed the current Mavic series, so an Air3s will certainly arrive, but not before a Mavic4 is on the market for long time.
    Waiting for your video review!

You are of the few drone RUclipsrs who didn't drnk the DJI Air 3 Kool-Aid. For photography, people may want to wait for the "Air 3 S/Pro" to get the same quality out of the main lens as the Air 2S, let alone the Mavic 3. Thank you for your unbiased and honest reviews.

I will have a Peep at your pics. I've been looking at what I can from the Air 3 and comparing to some lesser drones and have had my eyes opened a little bit more. So far my Nano+ is close to being as good as the air 3. I has it's own set of draw backs but it surprised me. For sheer flying time for your bucks the non mini 3 pro with Plus batteries is getting the most use from me right now.
Thanks for your efforts in these vids. And enjoyed looking at your web site.

I have the air3 and picture quality not as good as my mini 2 I now regret buying it and didn’t need to because I also have air 2s,air 3 definitely my last drone purchase.Very informative video.

Hello Vic, great and objective review as always👍👏 I myself have the Mavic 3 Classic and what I've seen sofar this drone is better compared to the Air 3 because of the sensor size, variable aperture and the D-Log. But the telephoto lens from the Air 3 is very tempting😀. For now I decided it is better to skip this Air 3 and wait for a future upgrade from DJI with a telephoto lens but as minimum a 1 inch sensor, variable aperture and a C1 label for Europe. Maybe called Air 3 S? What do you think about the video quality from the Air 3 compared to the Mavic 3 Classic? I appreciate your opinion! Greetings from a subscriber from 🇳🇱

Great video. Being a photographer, I had been using the first generation Mavic Pro and, with Photoshop, was able to get some great images. Then After a few issues with that drone I ordered the Air3. Well I was very disappointed as I was getting lots of noise even at low iso's. DJI to there credit replaced it and also mention there were challenges with this drone and were looking at a fix for it. My new Air 3 so far, and I have only flown it twice does look better. I will do further test when the weather permits. Loved your video and it has given me some hope for the Air3 which on paper and the RUclips videos does look like a great drone. Thank you again.

@fluxcapacitor3273 Got refund for Air3. Now have a Mavic3. So very different. Far better image quality. It's really chalk and cheese different. Very happy now.

Would you say it’s worth picking up a second hand Air 2S to focus on photography? I’m buying my first photographic printer so not sure if it’s a good idea getting the air 3 or the 2s?
I already own an Air 2, so I already have 3 air 2 batteries! & I have the Dji RC & mini 3. I love my mini 3 pro but the Air 2s seems better for photography and I can get a second hand one pretty cheap.

If you are only into photography the Air 2s is a good choice and as you said it can be found at a good price now.
The only issue is the very short battery life. It is not a big issue for photography, but for hyperlapses is a serious limitation

    • @h-dawg969
      @h-dawg969 11 месяцев назад

@@VICVideopIC yeah that’s why I was thinking that being able to use my 3 batteries I already have would be good. I love the drones I have already, but I’m thinking that as I’m buying a printer, the air 2S might make sense.
I’ll have to have a think and see. The Air 3 is still tempting, but it’s a lot the spend and makes the batteries I already own redundant.
Dji need to calm down with their release schedule so we can get a moment to decide. Cheers

Here in the UK the CAA are in the process of changing the rules on drones so i'm not replacing my mav 3 or 2s until they i found out how bad it will get and if remote ID is coming. i will still get the mini 4 though to replace min 3. it will have the new 1.13 sensor form this air 3 which will be a great little drone. and yea, that 48mp is such a lie. if it really was 48mp, then the quality of the photos would be the best any drone could produce and be above the mavic 3 pro. but there's almost no difference to the 12mp like you say.

I'm amazed at how DJI can spew Bogus BS and the DJI-Tards will eat it as truths. Most will be fast to spew it over again. Glad to see you can SEE!

      You are probably right.
With the Air 3 DJI has taken a different direction: versatility rather than the best possible image quality.
But I am really enjoying this drone
