  • In this video I share my views on what type of boat to buy if you want to cruise full time. From project boats, ex charter boats, more modern coastal boats and ex cruising boats.

      I am looking for a boat at the moment aswell and find the Catalina 42 one of the best choices at the moment. I do have heard a couple of times now that people prefer the MKII. Is there a major difference between the MKI and MKII other than the age and minor design changes? For me more important would be the safety aspect. Is there a big difference between MKI and MKII? I would like to live on the boat fulltime, some Island hopping and at one point in time cross the atlantic ocean. For example spend 2 years in the Caribbeans and head over to the mediterranean for a couple of years. I think a full on blue water vessel would be overkill.

      Hi,the rudder is much deeper on the mark II and I think the mast is moved back a little . Plus the interior layout is a little different . The keel stepped mast helps with ocean crossing . The boat is more than capable crossing oceans . Milagro is currently for sale if you want to start your lives aboard life in the safe waters of Mexico

    Love your channel. I have a 26ft yamaha that I plan on doing week to 2 week excursions next season, with some land based stops. The one thing that I am hearing from many passaged season sailors is having a protected helm. This is actually a concern of mine as my bought currently doesn't have a dodger or a Bimini.
    I think buying an exiting cruisers boat the best in my opinion.
    Thanks for your perspective!

      Yes I would agree , you need to get out of the wind as it can be tiring . If you are sailing in a sunny hot climate I would also add a Bimini otherwise you might get burnt by the sun . Thanks for watching the channel

    Kev. Just so you know. When you do a search on yacht world and search " Used/All Sail/Catalina/MKII" The listing does not appear. When you search. "All/All sail/Catalina/MKII" it does appear? So anyone searching under Used boat will not see your listing. Nice boat.

    Nice videos. I am looking at a 52 foot sailboat in Puerto Vallarta. Is there any downside to a large boat? Just slip cost?

    • @sailingmilagro
      @sailingmilagro  2 месяца назад

      Not just the cost of the slip but the availability of the correct size , the amount of anti foil needed , the cost of having the bottom cleaned , they charge per foot . Haul out charges. Then the cost of replacement parts as everything is bigger , anchor chain , anchor . The dollars soon start to add up as the size of boat goes up . You could also add anchoring on tight spots could be a challenge . What’s your reason for a 52 , family and kids ?

    Late seventies, early eighties boat “will still have a 20 year old engine” 😅 Actually it will still have a 45 year old engine.

    Kev, on the screen at about 1 min in to the video - the video picture itself is very slowly "rocking" !!!
    How the heck is that happening? The camera (I'm guessing) is on a tripod in the boat with you so it should be moving with the boat as it rocks, and yet the video "picture" rocks for bit !
    It's pretty trippy and it's bit weird! (grin)
    Anyway, sweet advice but if you could insert pics if each bost as you talk about it would, have been great ...... and thanks for the advice!

      Thanks Dave , I’ll check it out , the camera was fixed to a bulkhead so it must be the editing software or a hiccup on the upload
